a new line (related) is the latest venture from lancashire-based andrew johnson (hood/remote viewer/moteer). utilising tools from the early days of home produced underground dance music (such as sk5 sampler keyboards and vintage drum machines) andrew has unearthed a beautiful album of downbeat, lamp-lit techno, industrial grade ambience and sonic experimentation which at times recalls early warp records, gescom and raw, 313 area beatdown house, as well as the more modern breed of electronic and techno travellers such as actress, mark fell (late period) and even theo parrish (the slow sound of your life).

“muen” is based on the concepts of “muen”, “kugai” and “raku” all referring to tactical “freedoms” or “liberties” within the structures of medieval japan. a reflection on concepts that have been lost since the seventeenth century, according to historian yoshihiko amino. while “muen” echoes of the seminal early 90s merzbow, playing on the relationship between metal noise and instrumental oscillations, it differs in interaction between the two. where the pure noise used to dominate, the instrumentation has taken over, making the whole soundscape oscillate and vibrate. each side is one long piece unfolding, an ocean of tones and frequencies, a catharsis of sound, dynamics and power. “muen” is a vitally sonic experience from a true master and innovator of electronic music for followers both new and old. “muen” is limited to 375 copies

acclaimed be as one boss shlomi aber makes a big step up here by putting out a trio of his killer techno cuts on the always excellent and forward looking nonplus label run by boddika. his xy play ep continues in his no nonsense, floor facing style and impresses once more. shlomi aber is an underground titan who runs his own musical empire in the form of his be as one label. he has made it into an essential outlet for no frills house and techno and his own output has found him in fine favour with djs and dancers alike. playing all over the world and also serving as an expert at the emerging ibiza festival on the white isle, here he comes correct once more. the title ep xy play is a brain frying affair with cantering drums and stern synths bringing a dark and intone vibe to the groove. way old story is just as heads down but less ominous, here the synths are a little spooky and add intrigue to his slick rubbery drums. last but not least related sources is a hunched over house track with dub in its kick drums and a desolate industrial feel in the landscapes above. atmospheric from the first to the last moment, this is another killer ep from shlomi aber.

nice price deal !!! parisian fellow stephane laporte joins the antinote crew with a very introspective and dreamy full length record. it features 11 tracks of homemade synthetic scapes and weird atmospheres. stephane works at night on a 4 track akai tape recorder set up on a cosy fur carpet. while listening to fourrure sounds you will likely meet françois deroubaixs ghost or may even have an early kraftwerkian feeling. the world that stephane laporte has built through this lp is unique. antinote hope you will enjoy this cold yet warm synthetic trip.

remember your first time at a rave? of course you don’t. and if you do, you either did it wrong or you’re a liar. with the latest installment of the 7777 onslaught, jared wilson aims to remind you of a time you dont remember. this ep is a souvenir back in time. beyond the zero and beyond the one and back into the analog bringing back memories you never had and experiences you never felt. paris massacre is reminiscent of a time when function mattered more than form and fashion, when sound systems and no lighting took precedence over state of the art fashion shows and laptop djs. its not nostalgic by any stretch of the word, though. how can one be nostalgic for a time they cant recall? the flip of the record is the wonderful >scmocid<, a wonderful reexamination of what it means to work a 303 to near death.

the music on this third release sounds a bit like a mixture of ame , derrick carter, lil louis, carl craig and basic channel. which is a good thing. we would like to think that this is the most loveable number so far. by miles! fonky, groovy, dark and deep techhouse that is just begging to be played at the right moment. paris the black fu from detroit grand pubahs has provided the vocals. and he actually has a message. can you relate?
