vor zwei jahren hatte credit 00 das glück, inmitten der konkreten weite der stadt eine wohnung mit wintergarten zu finden. dort sein atelier einzurichten, umgeben von pflanzen, gegenüber der hinterhofoase mit ihren bäumen, büschen und vögeln, die den ganzen tag sangen, war das gegenteil von seiner üblichen arbeitsumgebung. der kontrast, in der natur zu sein und gleichzeitig von einem städtischen viertel umgeben zu sein, wird auf dem neuesten ausflug von credit 00 im uncanny valley untersucht.

from conrad schnitzler in the 1960s to the pioneers of detroit techno in the 1980s, experimental sonic artists were often inspired by the metallic noises of industrial factories. schnitzler wanted to recreate the sounds he heard in his apprenticeship as a locksmith with musical instruments, and the sons and daughters of the midwestern automobile-industry generation programmed the motown soul into japanese electronic music equipment. with his new piece the metal beat ep, credit 00 wants to get in line with this tradition of transforming factory sounds into music. each of the three tracks reflects on the role of the human being in an industrial environment. the never-ending movement of the machine becomes the rhythm, while the melody embodies our forlorn voices in the vastness of the factory site. the blues played by machines--modern work songs for a post-industrial society!

limitierte 12inch mit dem key-track und opener aus anna merediths debütalbum varmints (2016, moshi moshi) sowie dem raren bonustrack miranda. die b-seite ist mit einem motiv geätzt. die britische musikerin anna meredith komponiert elektronische musik mit klassisch-orchestralen ansätzen und wird in einem atemzug mit anna calvi, james blake und the new puritans genannt.

elizabeth merrick-jefferson is one of those artists who seem low-key. theres not a lot of information about her, if any, except for the existence of the first two records and a lone interview. one released in 2013 and the other in 2014. listening to either record tells you her music might be a lot of things, but low-key isnt one of them. powerful and colourful, direct, and with 313 references embedded in its dna, she pulls it off with style. elizabeths third record is no exception. it has found its home on our mothership label, burek. three happiness is tailor-made for the dance floor. it wont leave anyone with a pulse standing. playful synths, wonderful strings, and infectious groove make it impossible to ignore. knowledge revolution is layered and paced, painting a somewhat different picture. melancholy and a sense of mystery envelop this track, whose leitmotif vocal appears just frequently enough to provide insight into the title. the last track of this ep is fittingly titled noctilucent clouds. its a drumless track with a rhythmic main synth counterpointed by sounds which give off the impression of clouds shining through the darkness of winter nights. another amazing release from burek.

lemmy ashton made quite a splash with his first outing on his own tnc label last year, and now hes back to follow up with another salvo of premium heaters geared towards disco friendly dancers. there s a chunky, looped up quality to silver suitcase with its insistent bass lick and slamming drums, but there s equal space for soul thanks to the string-loaded sample hook. by way of contrast lunaire fires up the acid flare and heads straight into a babbling brook of 303-related goodness. amsterdam rounds the ep off on a stomp, whipping up the kind of bombastic disco drama that would get studio 54 moving were it in action today

having established himself through a consistent stream of quality releases for uncanny valley and the immaculate collection of rat life, credit 00 - real name alexander dorn - bring sthe heat on nyh81. these are recordings taken from his old apartment, and feature a heavy dose of reference to classic gertronica. from can to kraftwerk to neu! to (now) munich s dopplereffect, this is some really nifty classic electro.

whether it is hip hop,techno, electro boogie, new beat, italo, jungle, reggae, house or chill out. though, all those different sounds and styles do not tear this album apart. it s a bit of a miracle that it feels so flawless for what happens between the appetizing -level one- and the final track -the last march-.

back in the days at the west-saxon highlands there was a missile, which marked the starting point. when credit 00 saw the legendary rocket rise on tetris’ final screen, it was the first time he became aware of electronic music at all. since then it actually hasn’t changed that much. he keeps pushing that buttons that belong to the impressive pool of music machines towered up next to his bed. after moving to dresden in 2000 to study fine arts, his passion for synthesizers and drum machines got nurtured through visits of dresden’s club-canalisation. he quickly made himself a name as a dj, who is just doing his own thing and got popular for that reason. as a part of the idealfun-crew he started hosting parties always in the twilight zone between legal and illegal. this led to “robo dance”, dresden’s only and (also for some other reasons) best electro club night featuring guests like dmx krew, luke eargoogle or imatran voima. the track credit made with randy barracuda of imatran voima has probably been created some time after the show. apparently, randy was not in good shape anymore and so “lebensraum” unmistakably bears credit’s hallmarks. for his own music he’s inspired by cannibal movies, number theory and birds. still, his music is not easy to pigeonhole. after all, he loves synth wave, electro, afro, kraut, kosmische, disco, italo, miami bass and other proto stuff – a lot of machine music.

credit 00 strikes back with four cuts between jungle funk and sublime party bombs. -tribal rhythm machine- starts off with subtle but effective drumming that works on the dance floor as much as it could be the soundtrack to your road trip to utopia. then there is -curse of the medusa-, a pretty rumbling track that takes full advantage of its super-funky vocal samples and almost explosive percussion action. -voodoo soup- fishes in muddy waters with credit 00 s distinctive drum work and tribal sounds from outer space. the final track -snake charmer- is building things up nice and steady. but when the hypnotizing synth melody breaks ground neither serpents nor dancers can resist. the artwork was created by alexander dorn a.k.a. credit 00 himsel

chapter edits is the brainchild of scott gray aka chapter (artist and dj) and corbi (producer, dj and a&r at fina records) with the aim being to bring art and music together by releasing disco-funk re-edits in limited edition chapter art sleeves. based in ibiza, they will be collaborating with guest djs and producers from with each new release as well as hosting their own parties under the name melon bomb at various venues across the island.

here are some plain and simple cuts by yours truly credit 00 that push just the right buttons to make people move. the tracks were made exclusively for his live set but they are too good to keep them back. without superfluous frills these four bangers scream party in every note but as usual with credit 00 theres also a melancholic side somewhere behind those tricky beats. house is a feeling!

three is the number, basement toolz the titel. once again rat life records is taking mickey on a night out to the sewer. here are two tracks made by credit 00 with a borrowed tr 909 drum machine. side a is called korg the groove, as the title already reveals, its inspired by a classic detroit techno cut. can you tell which one it is? on the flip side you will find 909ish, one drum machine and one synthesizer, which is not much but all you need and more, plus there is extra noise on the clap to amplify your face slapping pleasure.

where are we heading ep is a sequel to the stunning entry by tapirus (rotterdams very own charlton), and offers greater room for the artist to roam, breathe, flex and grow. behind the success of acid love story, which received notable plays by surgeon on rinse.fm and blawan at awakenings, this follow-up effort recalls the signature elements established in the first, while displaying a quest by the artist for refinement and progress.

on uncanny valley s catalogue number 18 we finally welcome back credit 00 who is a man in charge of a decent collection of those dusty machines we all love. after the ice cold the living room life ep from 2012, his brand new record ice cream is easy to fall in love with. packed with tunes to suit various moods in life, it will be a faithful companion in dark basements or lonesome hours. ice cream starts deliciously with its sleazy sample choice. with the distinctive drum work it builds up to a true chicago-inspired dance floor banger. round n round hits hard with a harsh kick and cowbell action before it shows off slightly melancholic lead synths and a subtle but effective bass line and puts the emphasis on the fact that things go round and round. life s a dizzy affair. east of nowhere with that bass line-sound is credit 00 to the core. and with spooky synths he puts you to an east of nowhere-place where you will lose yourself in manic trance-like dancing. the record ends with red wine , a slightly different electronic love song sung by credit 00. the cover artwork was created by alexander dorn.

chicago-rooted, disco influenced tracks from john camps excellent solo debut, out on the hakt label, are reinvented by some of dance musics industry captains. once again, the hakt label offers a collection of songs that pulse through the night and bring life to the dance floor.

nice price deal !!! though this is camps debut solo release and first offering on hakt recordings, listeners have heard from him before. last year, he was featured on no regular plays debut album, endangered species, out on wolf + lamb. he also appeared on the track no more time, along with collaborator michael christopher, from the zurich-based cityfox label. and in april 2012, he was featured on a track from double standard records, the vinyl-only imprint from wolf lambs gadi mizrahi.
