all bets are off with the third vinyl sampler from themas strength in numbers compilation, as the wide-reaching nature of the nyc label truly reveals itself with four varied and striking diversions into critical house music. pressing on translucent, neon green coloured vinyl.
raudive a.k.a. oliver ho heads home with two guilty dancefloor pleasures. gritty surface, smoove bottom. for those damp, dimly lit cellar clubs: low ceilings, fog, smoke and all that.ruins runs a relentless groove against angular guitar overtones, blowing out the valves of its amplifier. metal sheets, rusty strings, sweaty bodies. visitor is built on a naughty percussion sequence and is elevated by a morphed girls inquiring voice straight out of a 1984 shibuya version of blade runner.
get the curse music 013 features oliver ho aka raudive, one half of duo the eyes in the heat. widely acclaimed for his vicious minimal techno grooves, raudives been on an machine funk bend and crafted two tracks which are as robust as they are potent. true to the gtcm philosophy, distinctions between vintage and modern, old school and new school, mind melting and bodily stimulation are brilliantly blurred. neither house, techno, ebm or synth punk, these tracks move in their own circles. the same can be said for the xenogears remix, miles away from the tired templates used and abused by most producers. fuck genres, lets dance.
oliver hos alias for the less obvious techno stompers has always been full of surprises. although you can take the man out of the rave, but not the rave out of the man, raudives >traffic ep< is a retro futuristic team of hermaphrodites. four tracks that recall metal dance - the genre that never was - as well as disco elements, house hints, a techno taste and wave wonders. a record made for sven vaeth and trevor jackson, with >beams< already on heavy rotation with dixon and ame for a while now.
nice price deal !!! another critical release, following the deadly djs pareja single of last month. perfectly timed and cued after the recent raudive long-player on stefan goldmanns macro label. raudive is oliver hos darker, more new-wave operative, and these latest productions have caught the attention of the folks at history clock - and its a perfect alliance. the levels ep is a debased mix of sleazy, after-hours acid-dancehall with the icy cool of minimal, machine-music dynamics. essential, in a word.
as one of the founding talents of james ruskins continuing blueprint records empire or richard polson and nick duntons seminal surface records, we at thema dont really think we need to remind you who oliver ho is. since 1996 he has released a steady stream of high quality, stylistically diverse, and highly dependable records on blueprint, his own meta, light and dark imprints, and such leading labels as klang electronik, macro, and poker flat that bridge the gaps between techno, tech-house, and deep exploration and always keep djs like us reaching for them when we need that not-quite-ordinary thing that keeps people moving.
comes on transparent / smokey marbled red vinyl.
producer oliver ho aka raudive is not a dark horse. two years after his acclaimed abc ep he returns to rrygular with his new release >love is the devil<. straight and facing forward but also back to the roots somehow. that doesnt need to be a compromise. it is a symbiosis that works absolutely fine in case of this particular 2-tracker. like always the englishman knows how to use percussion elements without getting cheesy. a certain reference to electro is obvious but it underlines the typical dirty raudive sound rather than trying to be referential. but who needs genres anyway? club-disco-techno-house-funk-electro - some kind of monster!
oliver hos label wires returns soon with the third installment, >nothing ep< by raudive. this release sees oliver pushing the raudive sound into a darker area featuring industrial influences within the techno grooves. the ep starts off with >shiver<, featuring an organ drone overlaid with bursts of resonance and feedback, with the repeated vocal phrase, >the sun sets inside you<. next comes >>nothing<. a strange wood block sound rides over the heavy groove, with synth stabs and echoing vocal sounds, it is relentless and hypnotic. we continue with >sigil<, the combination of monotone bass and synth stabs with the strange primal moan produce a creepy groove, - gothic techno maybe... finally we have >dial<. the last track finishes the ep off with heavy drones and white noise feedback, bringing to mind the relentless tones of lou reeds metal machine music.
groove charts # 3 !!! >sex ×technology = the future< ( jg ballard) wires are the arteries of the modern world, connecting and supplying practically everything that defines our lives. we channel our desires like an electrical current through our machines. musically, the concept is about drawing together the different strands, from techno and minimal to house to ambient and experimental. there is a common thread that runs through these different genres, linking them like the roots of a tree. this diversity is what keeps everything fresh for me. the >raudive< project explores techno and minimal, further releases will feature >atlas<, a new project created by myself and co-producer tommy gillard which moves into more detroit house territory. later there will be music from >zov zov< music that references pan sonic, coil and sunno))).
with 2009s magnificiently deep >cone ep< raudive aka oliver ho became an integral part of the ever brilliant macro family. the man is in there for a reason. now he drops one of macros most dancefloor-centered, yet distinctively future forward outings so far. >paper< - the chord, the bass, the strings! all deepness ingredients are there and it would be just classic if it wasnt raudive in control, whose chord is rather acoustic than synthetic, whose strings are rather xenakis than detroit - and whose bassline is just pumping genius blasting any reference system. but its a double pack of excessive excellence. >brittle< is papers evil sister and a giant step in groove design, throwing the thrills of the unknown right at your dancefloor. its repetitious, maniacal vexation patterns put any record to shame that has ever been called hypnotic. 2010 is right here. the ep is rounded off with the shimmering >sienna< - a no-beat melodic variaton set against the warmth of grainy crackle. one of the most thrilling releases by one of the most thrilling labels
the latest ep to come from the detroit grand pubahs label detelefunk is dj and producer k alexi shelby with >i can go<. kaay is one of chicagos true heroes and cited by many as a pioneer of the citys sound. this is his unique smooth blend of techno and house, as kaay calls >tecsoul< (which is also the the name of his own label) that attracted the eye of the pubahs with a track titled >i can go< featuring kaays own vocals, and the heavy female breathing.
under his raudive alias, oliver ho has created a trademark blend of future forward house and techno that has been the sound to some of the greatest moments on our favourite dancefloors over the last couple of months. recently labels like cocoon, drumcode and pokerflat were blessed to release superb pieces by raudive and he created enthusiasm all accross the board from ricardo villalobos to sven väth. for his macro debut he moved a step further: the cone ep with its 3 cuts of twisted house brings some serious madness to the club: raudive’s signature beats get a strong jazz infusion with bits of saxophone and an out-of-control piano spinning around the pumping bassline. crazy all the way while delivering a maximum of dancefloor appeal.
continuing the spectacle that is the poker flat tournament series, we present two more surefire lessons in dancefloor mechanics. after his last storming >zeitgeist e.p< for poker flat, londons very own dark knight raudive aka oliver ho has crafted a powerfully hypnotic club tool that truly exists within its own world of unique and unmistakable sound. carefully executed beats roll forward as an astounding landscape of colourful vocal suggestions and emotions swirl and evolve. its a heady, uncompromising track that certainly stands out as its own, but could complement many different dj situations, from driving peak time sets, to free-flowing after-hours sessions… heading up the opposition for looks set to be a fine tournament indeed, minimise head-honcho and continual key-player donnacha costello brings things down and dirty with his unforgiving and foreboding >i must be going<. a catchy proto-acidic bass line snakes a winding path through a dense atmosphere of late-night paranoia. perfectly crafted beats push the energy along with a casual swagger, whilst the pleasingly tripped out vocal undertones leave the imagination to run wild
oliver ho aka raudive schafft es erneut mit abgefahrenen vocals mystische stimmungen aufzubauen. fernab vom einheitsbrei moderner tanzmusik und sehr viel näher an ricardo oder cecille als an richie hawtin oder klang
big with adam beyer, dubfire, len faki !! through his raudive alias oliver ho has caused a very serious stir over the last few months. he has released some seriosuly heavyweight material on labels such as music man, poker flat, klang, we are and podium as well as some killer remixes for the likes of figure and pocket . he really is one of the producers of the moment and this amazing 2 tracker for the leviathon that is drumcode will further cement that solid reputation.
hat irgendjemand da draußen, in letzter zeit zu audions >mouth to mouth< gefeiert? ja...nein? eigentlich auch egal, den oliver ho alias raudive liefert mit >good boy bad boy< den offiziellen nachfolger zu matthew dears konsenshit des letzten jahres
we are have found some amazing tracks to release on the golden number ten of our 10 inch series. the aside track goes under the working name passing and is signed raudive. londons prime techno producer oliver ho is an old favourite of ours and really hits the spot here finding the perfect middleground between dancefloor drive and trippy flow with a solid hypnotic bass, voice elements, distorted instruments, simply great work. for the flipside we are very proud to introduce the debut track release of kroppssprak. we just love this track for its out of this world funkyness and miniscule detailing.
when messiaen set out to transcribe birds songs as models for his compositions, he couldn t have predicted that by now wild birds would have started to learn mobile phone ringtone patterns. for a system of objects, raudive aka oliver ho maps an obliquely constructed world in which you lose all certainty of what is nature and what is design. raudive celebrates dance and auditory scenes as rituals, employing our surroundings as sources of ahistorical found sound - primitive technologies used to reach magickal states. a drum machine and a wooden stick, a sawtooth-shaped electric current and a split rock all turn into empirical objects of the same class, without a definite past or a predictable impact.
introducing the raudive alias, he created a reduced, sexy, dancefloor-centered wave of greatness for labels from drumcode to cocoon. this sound turned out to be highly attractive for the djs to play and for the girls and boys to dance to. the unparalleled appeal of his beats left the usual minimal competitors sounding rather dull. thus raudive quickly became the blueprint of techno modernism and one of todays most influential genre-bending production styles. macro unleashes the highly anticipated debut album - chamber music. chamber music is both: claustrophobic in sound design, reminiscent of the dark and sweaty concrete club spaces this music inhabits, as well as carrying acoustic qualities of induced instrumental experimentalism. bitches brew voodoo reeds, new york no wave voices and european avant strings spin a mesmerizing dark patina around the ultra-sexy year-3000-rhythms. no wonder theres huge dj support all accross the board - from miss kittin to richie hawtin, surgeon to trevor jackson, ricardo villalobos to jeff mills. massive deep edge and one of 2010 finest albums so far!

french label astro lab recordings has been around for 6 years, releasing vinyls, and now introduces its first compilation on cd. as a turning point in its history, the label had to put together a special and exclusive selection, putting forward all its beloved inspirations and influences. this is how the treasure hunting compilation was crafted. the eighteen tracks on the record are mostly unreleased and composed by fellow artist friends, all part of the astro lab adventure since the beginning: andrew weatherall, kaos or timothy j fairplay - to name a few.
the watergate mix series goes into the next round. konrad black is a founding member of the wagon repair label and part of the richie hawtins m_nus family. for watergate he delivers a mix containing influential classic material as well as new unreleased productions by himself with collaborators such as martin buttrich. his signature sound, a dark vision of techno shines throughout the entire project and refects his self-perception as a dj. over the last years konrads sound has found a home in berlins watergate club and one can catch him play here on a regular basis
two djs, one tracklist - an innovative double dj mix concept by the makers of macro. two djs, one tracklist. probably for the first time in the history of dance music a release focuses on extracting the pure sound signature of the dj. when the tracks to choose from are limited to one playlist, the sequencing decisions and mix styles of the djs reveal their individualities. as well as the different possibilities the music allows when formed into one continuous stream.macrospective is the first conceptual double mix offering a 1 on 1 comparison of the art of djing with two masters of the craft. but you’ll also love it for being a comprehensive retrospective of one of the most intriguing contemporary label catalogues in electronic music. the two mixes by macro founders stefan goldmann and finn johannsen highlight key works of the label (including poll winners the maze, law of return, arcade & lunatic fringe), bringing out the versatility and individuality of each track.
