having carved out a reputation for some of the finest cosmic house productions on labels like omena, dirt crew and quintessentials, the lithuanian based producer delivers three new cuts on this release, which comes ably backed by a remix from italian producer fabrizio mammarella. on the title track, alex pletnev (ponty mython), goes for breezy synths and wandering melodies over a chugging mechanical beat and an fm style bassline, whilst fabrizio mammarella (bear funk/les disques de la mort) toughens things up slightly on his remix, plunging into a darker sound aesthetic for a great reinterpretation of the original. on “time spiral” an unhurried groove is laced with layer upon layer of meditative synths and percussive rolls for a fat dose of eighties soundtrack vibes, whilst ep closer, “appreciate it while it s not too late”, settles down to a head-nodding pace with funky bass and key melodies and live drum samples for a real earworm of a track.

omena ltd travels to vilnius and meet up with alexander pietnev aka ponty mython for its sixth release. universe of pops consists of three illustrious and imaginative tracks, all free-flowing with an melodic approach that has become a signature sound for ponty mython.

opening the ep, black magic sets an optimistic tone for what is to come from this new label. intoxicatingly hypnotic and full of warmth, this track reminds us that it is always summer somewhere. if black magic is essential in warming a party up, god bless atheism is the perfect way to bring us softly down on the other side. a modern balearic anthem in the waiting, this is best enjoyed looking out to new horizons. b1 street sunbath sees ponty exploring more-techy territory whilst still retaining the hopeful feeling that forms the backbone of this ep. closing the ep, hidden object has a strong tribal feel which hooks the listener. using vocal chanting samples and simple repetitive melody lines, this is a perfect example of how less is often more in connecting with the dancefloor.

originally released on the v.a. quintessentials 50 and making rather big waves, grooff machine from ponty mython gets the remix treatment for some more dope grooffs! chicago hotshot chrissy (the nite owl diner, classic, razor n tape) puts enough disco and acid in it and offers a great clubby alltime classic. ponty himself fuses lost of house, disco, funk and 808 busines so that you can grooff to the max. and our mexican buddy soul of hex (vicario ltd, freerange) keeps it dark and loopy before adding some splendid riffs. time for the grooff machine!

quintessentials is very happy to present their 50th release! to celebrate this, we invited some buddies to bring the deep beats. and damn they did! mat chiavaroli, one of your main artists who is getting stronger and stronger, opens this jubilee release with upbuilding powerful tune, just the tune the get quintessentials 50 started! great to see profilic dutch producer nachtbraker (heist, quartet series) on the label too. we love his style and he will soon be as popular as ajax amsterdam! his subtle and dirty “bronco” fits in perfectly. the definitive club tune that grooves and grooves and grooves comes from ponty mython (dirt crew). alexandr is a cool guy and this is defo a cool tune. last but not least is soul of hex (freerange, vicario). our mexican friend is going very raw this time. yes, why not call it electronic body music (remember?)! as we are gentlemen, we added a quintessentials sticker in the vinyl edition. go and get it!

things are getting grim. the good guys and the bad are determined to settle their escalating dispute in the ring. after the bookies have taken their bets, the bad guys are taking the upper hand in the first few rounds. the nefarious comment about their beloved mother seems to have sparked uncontrollable rage in the pair. dont rule out the good guys just yet though, as they seem to be plotting something their opponents from the dark side wont see coming. for the second outing in the quartet series, french fry and parisian concrete resident s3a (sampling as a n art, faces) infuses the good guys with some positive energy.

capital bass continues to gather russian names under one roof and expand stylistic variations. next big thing is a three-track ep from ponty mython (alex). this is the second ep by sir ponty mython on capital bass. it has been two years since his bulletproof jesus ep in 2013. during these two years ponty mython has been working with such iconic house imprints as arma, quintessentials, dirt crew and others. his new adverbs ep is a quite eclectic thing. side a is a filtered house banger gracefully - a result of sampling games with moscow house star lay-far (local talk, in-beat-ween). side b - afterwards tune is a real one-loop thriller, dirty and raw, with african samples and invisible sub bass line. on b side you can also find a psychedelic version of afterwards by saint petersburg techno artist nocow (roots united, fauxpas musik). the title track * i wish* starts of the ep with its deep and fumy organ chords combined with filtered hats, clever vocal samples and harsh bass lines. next up on the a side you will find the pumping head nodder * holly fm*. swinging hats, guitar stabs, smooth pads with simple but very effective hook on top. the b side starts off with the slightly minimal track “keep on using me” (brother). this one with grim beats, organ pads, off beats punching in and out as the track steady builds with a rock solid perfectly tweaked bass. the last minutes on the b side is reserved for the dreamy yet hard hitting and raw gem * new toys*. pure basement love.

the main theme called jesus makes you stomp your feet to its funky beat and phat acid bassline that mutates during the track keeping things deep without getting too religious. futureboogie man christophe does some good work on the remix adding some extra syrup: even more bass plus preachers speech in the middle of the track.
the b-side goes even deeper with blackstreet sampling number u ve got your pr0blems. starting off with the smooth disco beat, little guitar and that catchy male vocal the track changes halfway with addition of funky acid squelches and 4x4 house beat that makes you realize you really, really want to stay at the dancefloor.

toy tonics mushroom house series brings together different shades of afro-weirdo-psychedelic vibes in dance music. all tracks have been made exclusively for toy tonics. the musical range is wide: the third ep goes from arabic guitars to nubian chants and looots of percussions. the bass drum is four-on-the-floor, but switches from midtempo (kiwi: we are here) to classic new york lofi disco grooves (ponty mython) the other 2 tracks on the ep feature an emptier vibe: less toms more drum machines. more techno. red axes deliever probably one of their weirdest works. their munk rework is pure craziness. the melodies come from another space. the last track on the ep is made by old toy tonics friends from milano: the barking dogs. they teamed up with tom trago in the basement studio of the great record store they run in milan: serendeepity records. they are known for selling obscure, but classy music for dance floors and thats what they do when the make music on their own. like on your high: an obscure groove meets a sloppy bassline and stoned vocals.
