das debütalbum des londoner künstlers mitch von arx erscheint auf dem berliner project mooncircle und bietet durch four-to-floor beats getriebene soundcollagen die von trips in die schweizer bergweld inspiriert sind und unter einfluss der rauen londoner umgebung im stadtteil hackney fertiggestellt wurden. mitch von arx benutzt diverse -found sounds-, die er über jahre gesammelt hat, sowie eine menge gesampleter gitarrensounds und verschiedene texturen mit einem hang zur unvollkommenheiten im klang, zu verstimmten synths, verzerrungen und störungen. er liebt polytrhythmen und melodische kontrapunkte, wechselt von house zu disco und einer eher melodischen seite des techno. das artwork stammt von jimmy turrell, einem grafiker und videoregisseur mit einer liebe zur handgemachten collages, zeichnungen, siebdruck und malerei, die er mit digitalen techniken verbindet.

groenis -nihx- entstand am fuße des mount victoria. nihx wollten sich kompositorisch und klanglich herausfordern und untersuchten die merkmale von konfliktpunkten zwischen gegnerischen kräften. wie in der vergangenheit und wie bei vielen elektronischen projekten ist die musik sozusagen -in der box- geschrieben worden. um dieser technik entgegenzuwirken, schrieben die drei mitglieder von groeni (al, mike und james) jeweils zahlreiche kompositionsskizzen, bevor sie in den digitalen bereich gelangten. mit ähnlicher inspiration wollte die band einzigartige und personalisierte sounds außerhalb des computers erstellen. die überwiegende mehrheit der drumsounds wurde aus samples von mikes immer umfangreicher werdender synth-sammlung gemacht. zahlreiche sounds sind manipulierte rückkopplungen von unter anderem gitarren oder vocals. die gesamte platte wurde in drei heimstudios in wellington, nz, geschrieben und aufgenommen und hat fast zwei jahre bis zur fertigstellung gebraucht. die limitierte vinyl auflage enthält einen mp3-download-coupon.

wild is the most complete musical work by nuage up to date. following a thought-out plan from beginning to finish, with a real introduction, development, and conclusion, the album is influenced foremost by the sun, sea and tropics. the music slowly evolves from warm and uplifting songs towards colder and more mysterious realms. . taking a full year to finish the album, including the entire change of season from summer to winter, memories of trips to mexico, the mountains, and the seaside fade away and are replaced by days at home and in the studio in cold st. petersburg. at the same time the music itself goes through a very personal development from outgoing moments to parts of personal reflection. without adding too much weight or philosophy to the music, the album is an easy and natural listening experience that explores contrasting and at times contradicting themes between summer and winter, cold and warm, introverted and extroverted and many layers in between, while also harmonizing the musical past, present and future of nuage.

its been a year or two since we featured a 12- single release from a new project. so hear at bearfunk we are really pleased to be releasing a cracker of a track. -gong bong-. it is from the caribbean house who are a new(ish) italian collective based around the core members of billy bogus & ferderico bologna. the original is one part slo-mo disco, one part psychedelic moondance and one part sci-fi horror movie. the track begins with swirling bass guitar and grinding synth before layering on a waft of sound effects and spooky keys. if the first two thirds of the track is a caterpillar then the last third is a butterfly as uplifting riffs and swirls of layered keys bring things to a crescendo. fellow italians the mushrooms project are up on remix duty first of all. they strip back the layers and concentrate on the growling bass and locked on pulsating synth. its back to the uk for the second remix where label honcho stevie kotey gets his percussion out for a drum, timpani and swing remix. stay tuned for more from the collective on bearfunk shortly.
