after being one of the many standouts on the we are opilec…! vol. iii compilation back in 2016, i-robots glamouflage is now getting a full vinyl release with artwork by tomozo kevorkian, who was designer for nyc s body & soul, and remixes by a standout team of producers from japan to switzerland to south africa and the usa. opening up the ep is a fantastic new take ii version from label boss i-robots, who added exclusive chinese vocal samples recorded on the streets of huang jiang city many years ago. the track is inspired by ennio morricone and supermax and is a loose and infectious groove with brilliant drums and percussion and an elastic bassline that really gets you moving. it s a subtle update to the original—also included here as a bonus cut—which itself is a steamy and tropical sounding groove. swiss electronic pioneer schaltkreis wassermann then features on a version of the original that reaches for the cosmos with its rugged bass riffs, tumbling toms and busy, ever evolving groove. it has a big breakdown with exotic synths wandering through the night and oodles of effects and big guitar licks. the first of the remixes comes from kuniyuki takahashi who has been a big supporter of i-robots since 2000. he is a sound designer from japan who had a compilation of his works put out by music from memory back in february. his version is laden with cosmic synths and chants, grunting and organic drums and is sure to be massive this summer thanks to its open air vibes. detroit s underrated but vital gary martin is the boss of the teknotika label and his version featuring colten decker playing an unusual sax line shows another side to the motor city. it s a curious and mysterious tune that makes for an unsettling atmosphere that keeps you locked throughout as it snakes along.

opilec music s eclectic remix series rolls on with another essential package, this time tackling a single from label boss i-robots s law of robotics album back in 2008. adding their own spin to things are red axes and hiroshi watanabe aka kaito after likes of kuniyuki takahashi, djembe monks, danny ocean, los hermanos, gary martin, alexander robotnick, daniele baldelli & marco dionigi have all stepped up previously. isreali duo red axes go first, a pair known for mixing up synths and guitars in exciting new ways on labels like hivern discs, i m a cliche and esp institute amongst others. their excellent version of the track re-works it as a deep and spine tingling house cut. moody chords lull you into a hypnotic and zoned out groove that is finished with some intoxicating spoken words. hiroshi watanabe aka kaito is next, an acclaimed kompakt and transmat artist who makes succulent techno with ambient atmospheres. his brilliant version here is just that, with cosmic chords and slippery rubber beats carrying you away into the night. warm and inviting, it elevates you to the next level over its long length, it is a classy bit of techno that also comes as a stripped back instrumental version.

four italo disco cuts produced by the powerhouse of svengile aka luigi venegoni. original copies of stratosferic band on it s 40th anniversary are changing hands for £125 and no wonder why. splashdown encapsulates perfectly the weird and wonderful imagination of italo productions sci-fi synthwork that ventures beyond this dimension. the ben norman track on the b1 has a more straight up disco feel to it but those vocals maintain an ethereal italo aura. completing this special 4 tracker is the obscure t.c. radiation that talk box guitar solo will melt any minds it s put in front of!

as ever, the next project on opilec music is one with a rich back story this time paying homage to a very specific disco scene of the early 80s: it finds label boss i-robots turning out one of his brilliant reconstructions, namely of a classic and cult track by one hit wonders ahzz. this track was first released on land of hits, a label run by peter brown (who also wrote -material girl- for madonna) and michael campbell and has now been officially licensed for this reissue by opilec music. the track, new york s movin was huge on the new york disco scene and was played by the likes of david mancuso at the loft, larry levan at the paradise garage and by nicky siano at studio 54, but continued to be a big hit with modern new york tastemakers kenny dope, dj spinna, danny krivit and his body & soul party crew well into the 90s, as well as with stars like motor city drum ensemble and bulljun. i-robots is a notorious producer and record collector with a vast understanding of the history of house and disco and his version combines an original vocal and instrumental version into something really magical. new york s movin (i-robots reconstruction take i) is a jangling, organic and lose limbed disco number with a funky drum line, soul in its bones and plenty of lovably rough percussion, clicks and drums. a retro and impassioned vocal line adds flair to the track at the midpoint just before that groove kicks once more. this version is featured on the new i-robots - reconstructions 2007-2017 10th year anniversary release. new york s movin (i-robots reconstruction take ii) is then just as emotive and outgoing but after the break has more of a focus on funk. this is a huge party starting track filled with feel good vibes and once again proves opilec music work on only the most special projects.

never serving up anything less than essential and hugely interesting projects, next on the radar for opilec music is this classic italo disco, chicago house and techno leaning package from pioneers klein & m.b.o.

always hard at work unearthing interesting new projects or forgotten old gems, opilec music is now serving up a retrospective compilation of highly esteemed chicago producer jordan fields best work from 1986 - 1991. field has been active now for some thirty years (on labels like rush hour, headphoniq and mo wax) but his best work was arguably done in his first decade or so. now opilec boss i-robots has been given access to a collection of field s early recordings and has selected, compiled & conceived this project himself. it will be presented as a full-length album but will also arrive in a few select ep parts, with this being the first one

the 1994 metroplex classic by juan atkins aka infiniti remixed by orlando voorn, i-robots and santiago salazar.

i-robots is an alias of opilec music boss gianluca pandullo, a long time dj and producer with a penchant for classic techno and electro cosmic disco. for his next project in the esteemed i-robots reconstructions concept series the italian re-edits some classic material, all with the permission of the original artists. the tracks in question are derrick mays hugely influential *emanon* cut, recorded under his rhythim is rhythim alias and originally released in the 1990s on his own seminal transmat records label – one of the most important imprints in the early days of techno alongside kms and metroplex. the second track – which was first released on metroplex, the label juan atkins founded in 1985 and then re-released and reworked on sound vision - is *game one* produced by the legendary juan atkins and orlando voorn as infiniti. the latter of these pair has already released a number of times on the opilec music label.

dutch master orlando voorn with a two-track release containing some of his pioneering material as format. rightly recognised as one of a handful of artists who built the early, crucial bridges between europe and detroit in the late-eighties and early nineties via collaborations with juan atkins and output for kms, voorn’s legacy is unquestionable. winning hollands dmc championships in 1986 and 1987 was the real career catalyst and there seems to be no let up in quality since then, either as a dj or a multifaceted, multi-genre producer. these two tracks are produced in 1993 and still didnt loose their magic!damn right and jam session have that the raw charm, edge and vibe sounds so current. energetic, melodic and broken, both tracks touch on a myriad of styles but what shines through is how modern electronic styles can be traced back to this sort of fantastic, unique output. format remastered could be sitting snuggly alongside modern house, techno, uk garage, uk funky and many more contemporary styles. this is a rare chance to grab beautifully treated versions of classic voorn material.
