trux’ second ep on berlin based record label office is a bow to the many outstanding moments in the history of ambient music. allusions to brian eno are just as recognisable as to the charming concepts of pop ambient or clicks & cuts. it’s between these poles that the four tracks on the a-side oscillate and manage to capture the listener with vibrant and diverse soundscapes. the flip side sees trux drop a stunning melodic breakbeat tune besides remixes by workshops premier techno chef lowtec as well as a freestyle electronica version by o$vmv$m. the much loved super quiet tops the record artwork off with another remarkable example of his casual and airy black and white photography.

office recordings continues to surprise us. after baaz s techno-/ambient-hybrid on office 011 the label from berlin comes up with a stunning new and anonymous project called * one day* featuring four also unnamed tracks. the a-side of the record starts off with a with a superb deep techno track which tempts us with very emotional pads and a strong kick and bass fundament û an irresistible combination. a2 goes in the same direction but feels like the slightly mellower and softer brother of its predecessor û a little bit moody but still straightforward at the same time. the flip side is dedicated to two freestyle electronic tracks standing in the tradition of the best warp offerings from their heyday in the 90s. weÆre talking charming melodies and sparse but elaborate rhythmic patterns. the record comes in a hand stamped and with a lovely artwork also hand made by office art director super quiet. all tracks have been mastered and cut by sound engineering proficient pole at scape mastering.

baaz from berlin gives us further insight into his diverse musical interests with his two (for you) ep on office. as the title suggests the talented producer splits his musical activity into two genres on this record: one is deep and moody techno with a knack for strong sub bass and soft pads. and the other one is striking ambient with a wonderful appreciation of moving melodies and mellow chords combined with touching vocal parts. what is remarkable how well these four carefully building tracks go together and how effortless they further underline baaz artistic vision of reduced and understated electronic music which unfolds slowly but emphatically. a respectable new record which is well worth opening yourself to

office vol. 10 ! versatility has got to be iron curtis second name. there are only few other producers on the electronic scene who are able to display such a variety of musical facets as this talented man from berlin. with his maple ep he underlines his reputation of an artist with many faces as his new release is quite a box of surprises: rarley have we heard iron curtis in such a dubby mood.
beginning with the straight and bass centered title track maple iron curtis moves on to the almost beatless and moody collision and the chord driven dub house of entago entery and finishes the ep with the delicate, ambient encore reset me on b2. with its impressive display of variety this record is a celebration of reduced, understated dub techno performed with a distinct musical flair and a clear artistic vision which perfectly fits label owner baaz direction of his office imprint so far. what s surprising is how effortless and natural iron curtis appearance on his long-time friend s record label feels. in such good shape his maple ep is a definitve tip for the lovers of sophisticated and detailed dub techno full of suspense.

next up on deep distance (following the sold-out-in-a-day sula bassana lp) is a fabulous newly expanded first time on vinyl double lp set of colin potter’s seminal 1980 cassette only release “the ghost office”.
the label is gradually working through colin’s revered back catalogue of cassette only releases, with previous titles the scythe and two nights selling out instantly. his run of half of a dozen home recorded, diy / minimal synth cassettes between 1980 and 1982 is rightly granted legendary status, influencing a slew of home produced diy experimental electronic artists and all attaining high collectors prices online for original copies. so these lp sets filled out with all manner of unreleased cuts, demos and excluded tracks truly are a treat.

office recordings introduces trux with office 07, an extended ep tinged in a smokey blue hue of low-fidelity candour and aberrant compositions. blankets of white noise and distortion, lap over renditions of hazey house, stripped synth arrangements, jungle breaks, and queer patterns.

after baazs successful album red souvenirs, office recordings is coming up with three wild remixes by dorisburg, christopher rau and s.a.m.

office 04 circles in memories: the record is about johannes * iron curtis* palukas time at karl-marx-straße berlin where he used to live next door to label head baaz and graphic designer chris fladung. a1 track * magnet* is an ecstatic piece of house music holding all elements ics production is esteemed and loved for : heavy, unrelenting kicks, rolling bass lines, shimmering pads, topped with searing hot yet gamelan-like synts and an icing of slightly loose, detuned organ stabs predesting grand emotions on any dance floor. * what happened happened* surely marks up as another proof of curtis fearless takes on house music: distorted field recordings and blurred spoken words, a web of gossamer melodies and subtle clicks and cuts, all cohered by the louche bassline and the reshuffled groove in a true dilla-ish vein. adapting elements to their own agenda, clandestine groove explorers berg turn * what happened* into a true midnight roller: razor-sharp hihitas join forces with a steam-maschine like percussion, whipping relentlessly in-between kick drum and kick drum. berg cools off their take with prancing melody motifs and strung out pads of the original track, though never loosing focus of the * reductions* aim: keep the dancer dancing.

the debut release on office recordings is the first part of a series produced by label founder baaz. in my mind is a subtle, shiny piece of jazzyfied house music with a steady rolling groove and dirty kickdrum. glim bangs the box with deep dubs and a sexy vigorous groove. the flip starts with two mind bending downbeat cuts with a stumbling beat. last but not least a slowburning remix of way out citti by matthias reiling (sessionn victim, giegling recordings) and björn astrup who did a brilliant job twisting the original into a soulful homage to the slow side of house music.

after seven years and 11 releases on labels like slices of life and daniel bells elevate outpost, berlin producer baaz is ready to reveal his first full-length effort. his 10-track lp, red souvenirs, is set to drop on 24th of november via the beatmakers own office recordings, which makes it the fourth release from the imprint after a record from christopher rau and two eps from baaz himself.

the second part of the >what about talk about< series by baaz starts with >owls night<. a deep house tool with a vigorous bassline, some classic 909 elements, weird vocals and a pumpin piano chord. >those things< the second track on the a, infects you with positive vibrations and the magic mood. the b side enters with a remix by the highly skilled producer michel bauman under his moniker soulphiction. he turned the track called k.m.s. into an emotional and strong kicking house tune. a cut for the special moments. the original is produced by iron curtis & baaz . 90 bpm, a dippy pipe organ, wooden beats and shaky percussions. the last track >whatabouttalkabout< is a lush experimental listening slice, prober for the dark and chilly winterdays.

office gossip is the imaginary workday daydream of up-and-coming uk midlands producer nathan brody. nathan just recently offered a stonking remix of schmoov’s >spirits< ( road 004 ) which has been given the stamp of approval by dj’s like tom middleton or miguel migs and many more. >blue on black< is a meaty tech-disco track with a basslline which instantly clicks. on the b-side mantis recordings’ atjazz tunrs the track inside out and gazes at it’s underbelly. the result is a chunky acid house workout with all the trimmings and quality used from atjazz. as an extra treat he also handed in a pure acid house dub. dirty stuff!

amazing atmospheric minimal !! this new 12 is a guy names hugh like who drops a great alienating track called >content. nice confident sounding track that is somewhere between minimal and house. nice classy build up and use of a violin makes this a track that really stands out and breaks with the standard techno formula without being akward. very dark and futuristic... would function very well as a sound track for a science fiction movie!.the other two tracks are in the same line and make this an outstanding forward thinking release! after being around on wite label for some time we received great reaction from guys like luciano, garnier, ivan smagghe, craig richards, michel de hey, mark august and others
