aufgenommen wurde universal high im sommer 2016 in den maze studios in atlanta, wobei niemand geringerer als der legendõre ben h allen (gnarls barkley, animal collective, deerhunter) in die produzentenrolle schl³pfte und mit bandleader ben romans-hopscraft eine kreative allianz formte. man k÷nnte -universal high- durchaus als eine wiedergeburt sehen: es setzt sich fast bis zur unkenntlichkeit vom dub-geladenen psychedelic-indie ihres deb³ts ab. der neue sound ist dagegen viel mehr geprõgt von den stra?en des s³dens, auf denen er entstand, vermischt mit dem 70 s soul von the isley brothers, curtis mayfield und shuggie otis.

nice price deal !!! pushing cosmic disco to the max ! for all fans of prins thomas, todd terje or dfa! first release, signed erik wikström includes two big songs: marathon and autonight. as the title indicates marathon it is a seven miunute workout. on the remix, feed pays a tribute to the origin of electronic music. riding the bassline even harder in the spirit of tour de france. autonight is more of a starter but also a stomper. once again showing his abillity to combine digital soundscapes and analog synthezisers wikström takes us on a late night drive. as a part of meatboys, erik remixed tracks by embassy and robyn amongst others. in 2006 they released the 12 fireworks on casette records. wikström also mixed the uk number one song with every heartbeat by robyn and kleerup.

zum einen sind da die verschwommenen, direkten songs von „never going home“ mit denen hazel english ihre erste aufmerksamkeit erlangte, zum anderen ist auf „just give in“ die blühende, kreative partnerschaft mit jackson philips (aka day wave) zu hören. die beiden trafen sich, als hazel in ihrer wahlheimat oakland in einem buchladen arbeitete und jackson, auf dem weg seinen synthesizer reparieren zu lassen, kurz vorbeischaute. die beiden kamen ins gespräch und beschlossen kurz darauf zusammen musik zu machen. eine zufallsbekanntschaft ohne die diese doppel-ep vermutlich nie zu stande gekommen wäre. jeder der songs hat eine zeitlose, sonnengeküsste Ästethik inne, die von hazels direktem stil und ihrer pop-sensibilität nochmals hervorgehoben wird. hochansteckender dream-pop trifft auf ehrliches songwriting. auf einem beach-pop-fundament aufbauend schafft es hazel english mit „just give in / never going home“ einen vibe zu erschaffen, der sich in jeder umgebung wohlfühlt.

meeting up in australia after time spent in europe and north america, old friends and collaborators angus gruzman (dreems) and jono ma (jagwar ma) teamed up in sydney and celebrated their personal climate change with a cover of the moffs 80s cult classic. equal parts of each artist shimmer in this visceral version of *another day in the sun*. a love letter to the end of the summer, also featuring the vocals of gabriel winterfield (jagwar ma), the song takes sonic cues from their surroundings on the australian east coast.

for the second release, ahrpes founder delivers three progressive techno cuts with some trance and acid arguments.

nachdem das letztjährige jagwar ma-album -howlin- dance- und indie-pop-freunde gleichsam in seinen bann zog und die musikpresse in dem werk die direkte nachfolge zu primal screams -screamadelica- sah, ist nun die zeit reif für die -the time and space machine dub sessions-. beeinflusst von dub und krautrock hat sich richard norris (the grid) an die regler gesetzt und einige der schlüssel-tracks des albums nochmals radikal überarbeitet. jagwar ma spielen die beiden festivals melt! und dockville und werden dabei erstmals auf hiesigen bühnen ihre musik vorstellen.

for telrae 010 stefan gubatz teamed up with van bonn. the a side track marathon reflects on the more up-tempo beat tracks on telrae. it starts where stefans transistor ended, keeps a tight beat but its crunchy chords erupt like lava in a bowl of milk. the flipside track burnout works with a heavy pounding bassline but is defined by a rather airy, ambient like soundscape with many modulations and a broken tricky beat..

groove heavy synth funk reminiscent of dmx krew and dreamy string- laden rhythms suggestive of standout tracks on carl craigs >more songs about food and revolutionary art< occupy side a. the flip side is filled with deeper dance floor friendly tracks sonically reminiscentof the transmat catalog along with an injection of uptempo tech-house swing elements evocative of akufens >skidoos<.
recorded in the winter of 2011 in metro detroit, >more than a marathon< marks the debut release for super public. predominantly re- corded with analog hardware, the ep has an innate familiarity while still maintaining a focus on the 2012 marketplace. rudi thornburgh has been independently producing electronic music for over 10 years under various names but, most notably, clocklife. brett cimbalik has been playing jazz guitar for the better part of his music career and has transferred his chordal knowledge to synth guitar and electronic production. together, they form a sound reminiscent of the golden days of detroit techno while still exploring new terrain and bridging new ideas.
