following on from the impressive opening statement from modern manners, the second installment from the hitherto unknown outfit sees the sonic remit reaching out to other influences while retaining that poised lounge attitude that made the first record so instantly endearing. research is a dub track in essence, sporting ample space in the mix, the odd conga roll and sparse chords calling out into a field of reverb and delay. can maneras is a more shuffling kind of smooth jazz that aligns with the classy licks of st germain and the like. serate cosmiche finishes the ep off on a melancholic tip that puts the synths at the front of the mix for the first time.

the third outing for modern manners emerges on the back of two very strong 12inches that introduced this anonymous outfit to the world. timeless vibe continues where the last release left off, building up a wonderfully cosmic bed of processed melody under which casual hand played percussion and warm bass notes can linger. azzahar too keeps things pleasantly soporific with its gentle pace and lilting guitar refrains, and then middle east manners rounds this excellent trio of eps out with a beautifully realised swirl of sounds that find focus once a kick drum starts pulsing and the percussion starts building. quite who modern manners are is a mystery at this stage, but across these three 12inches they ve certainly made their presence felt in the softest, most laid back of ways.

coming to life on a hazy cloud of natural instrumentation and meditative composition, modern manners tap into the appetite for delicate new age musings beautifully on this debut release. amor y odio is laced with spanish guitar musings that spiral out over a simple but effective drum break that harks back to classic downtempo, while running with me edges towards a more sprightly lounge headspace while retaining the rich musicality felt on the first track. instant illusion is propelled by a bassline that wouldn t sound out of place on a house track, but here its punching out in a subtle, laid back environment that aims to get you horizontal in the most sophisticated way possible.

for more than a thousand days and nights, nico stojan tapped away at what is now before us as ‘twisted manners’ - his debut album telling stories in sound that are both electronic in nature and human in touch. each organic sounding track on the release, including their neighbouring interludes, graze on the moments, people and cultures which have encompassed the albums journey and brought it forward to what it is today. these inspirations have merged from moody mornings in foreign lands (‘blue hour’) to his love affair with the elements of jazz (‘tortured paper’), to the breezy ways of the pacific island people he connects with so much (‘maori girl’). these diverse cultures and the passing musicians who have importantly contributed to the essence of the album have built strong yet invisible strings with a myriad of voices and instruments which weave throughout the music giving us a piece of work that is both textured in flavour and rich in motive. twisted manners is a clean example of this - house music whose soft open spaces and gentle beats sway easily through analog sounds coming from string quartets, saxophonists and double bass players to name a few. these collaborations and stojan’s guiding ear will walk you right into the dreamy spaces and faraway places of his travels without you breaking a sweat. seasoned with moments stolen under the fading light of day, long trips into the beautiful nothingness of his eclectic surroundings and respect for electronic music that is both timeless and sincere, ursl records is delighted to present stojan s debut album, ‘twisted manners’.

the auckland-based, new zealand club night ‘haven’ has been a leading light in the pacific nation’s small underground dance music scene in the past year. from their home of the intimate backroom of basement venue whammy, founders keepsakes and jaded nineties raver have introduced the local night fiends to a diverse range of left-of-centre, techno-centric dance music in putting on shows with international artists from lo-fi australian electro wizard daze, to the harder-edged sounds of ansome and uvb.
now launching as a vinyl-focused record label, haven is attempting to push the best of new zealand’s new guard of outsider dance music to the international stage.

we ve been closely watching the rise of a sagittariun ever since he first popped up with his consistently excellent elastic dreams label back in 2011. what started out as an anonymous project has since been revealed as the handiwork of nick harris, a long time champion of the bristol house and techno scene since before most of us were even hitting the dance. his music has been flying out with a no nonsense approach self-released, minimal promo, just cracking club-ready 12inches that tap into the fierce-but-fun spirit of detroit techno and albums loaded with smokers delights to appease his west country roots.

suns of dub is a performing ensemble and production team, creating unique sound experiences that blend live instruments and dub influenced genres. their hybrid reggae sound includes live melodica, steel pan, nyabinghi drums, live dub and dj effects. the group has been working and releasing music together since 2010.
riddimentary - suns of dub selects greensleeves pairs the group with the greensleeves and vp records catalogue of reggae masters for a musical tour through the crucial tracks that have formed the outlook and output of the ensemble. the set is a continuous dj mix of seventeen songs on cd. twelve selected full tracks on vinyl lp and both the mix and seventeen full tracks on the digital album.
among the featured artists on the album is the legendary augustus pablo, whose son addis is a founding member. riddimentary is the perfect bridge for dub reggae and progressive music fans to connect with all-time reggae classics from greensleeves and vp records.

it’s not very widely known but, when he’s not digging for other people’s music to play out at the party, mister harkin spends a good deal of his time in the studio making some of his own. up to now, those efforts have made their way onto records for the always on point argot imprint in chicago and nyc’s own throne of blood. and although he’s djed at almost 250 mister saturday night & sunday parties since we got going in 2009, this is his debut release on the label. it’s made up of three spaciously sculpted club scorchers, ripe and ready for the power hour, and we’re super stoked to finally be able to share them with you.

the view ep is a collaboration project between berlin dj / producers sebastian krenzlin and sebastian stöhr / 88uw. sebastian krenzlin is one of the new talents playing at tresor club, berlin. krenzlin is proofed by tresor and a talent behind the desks - strobe and fog will do the rest. sebastian krenzlin and he is simply one of techno musics most staunch supporters and preservers of the genre.

freska belongs to the new generation of artist not bound to follow one genre. his releases therefore differ enormously. he states in his biography that he was influenced by music from black sabbath to kraftwerk, but this just implies the range of music and is not really to be grasped.

when surfing on places and spaces like myspace you sometimes bump into something special, a rare diamond. so we of sound architecture did when we got tipped to check out the myspace of this dutch guy named dollkraut. the following week the only music played in our office was his... when we found out to by surprise that dollkrauts music was not signed yet to any label, we did hesitate or think twice and invited dollkraut to one of our events and asked him to do an ep on our label. inspired by artists such as dave brubeck, glenn miller, pepe bradock, recloose, jazzanova and krause duo, its sounds like dollkraut mixed them all in a big shaker, adding some of his secret ingredients. serving a dish to die for.. full colour sleeve with handstamped releaseinfo on whitelabelcopy.
