british trip-hop pioneers morcheeba return with their first new album in over five years. the band have released 8 albums that have sold in excess of 10 million records in their career. “blaze away”, their positivity-packed ninth album, marks both a fresh start in its organic approach and a return to the joyous genre-mashing of their early days, with featured guests roots manuva and benjamin biolay. there was no template for its ten, extraordinary, future-facing songs, no self-imposed limits on style, no themes to be adhered to or rules in place to break.

in recent years mark reeve has become a pivotal member of the drumcode crew. his 2015 ep debut run back was a standout, before he backed it up strongly with nine of you , his collaboration with adam beyer that featured on a-sides vol.4, ensuring his place in the hearts of dc fans.

for their third delicacies 12inch this year, smd take a deeper, more spaced out approach, in contrast to the strict techno of the previous two releases. far away from a distance features hypnotic synth washes that glide slowly in and out of time with the track s rhythmic bed, stumbling over each other in a 5am haze. -flying or falling- pushes into classic smd melodies, mournful detroit indebted warmth spilling over the groove.

after a short hiatus, eddie c s red motorbike blazes back through we re back to the 7 inch format for this one, as eddie splits the release with long time compadre roberto who rewires a smooth tropical groover with a warm, absorbing low end, marimba noodles and an imaginary palm tree overhead on the flip eddie proves yet again why he s one of the best in the business, with a heavyweight funk strut another keeper... hand - stamped, 7 inch vinyl only business

faraway reach casts classixx’s young-but-nostalgic melodies and sublime chords in a more mature, restrained light, albeit no less lively and bright. establishing themselves as producers of note on their debut lp (pitchfork called them “great songwriters, too”), faraway reach delivers powerfully smooth and soulful jewels that are still decidedly their own - the classixx signature is one that can’t be traced. their love of plaintive voices and disco-inspired grooves is as evident as ever, but this time around everything is a bit bolder, the cast is bigger, the melodies distilled into a higher potency - it’s all just as good, but better. “on the first record, we wanted to include only people that were our friends, and have it be really personal…” david begins, a thought blake finishes: “this time we wanted to make a record with a lot of different kinds of vocals, to see if we could be the common thread.” the album traverses locales, vocalists and inspirations. it s a fitting movement for the duo, from venice beach to the mountains of south africa and everywhere in between - a faraway reach.

hot on the heels of her last feel good smash these times, comes kimaras latest jammer far away, with two very distinctive remixes, the first by distant musics jon cutler. one might think we picked jon because of his coincidental label/song title relation, but one would be wrong! we picked jon because his superb production skills. the man behind the worldwide triumph its yours, as well as many others, brings a good bit o bounce to the dance floor on this remix. his lush piano chords, funky percussion, and synth zaps are a perfect bed for kimaras strong vibrant vocals to lay upon. he also turns in a truly slick dub for those looking for a bit less vox. for those looking for more tech, one of our favorite new dance producers out of japan, hideo kobayshi, slings us with a tougher, warpier punch (and dub) that ll get hearts and feet movin in synch.

this ep for baroque shows their slightly darker techier sounds under the alis paul velour throbbing beats and bass combine with their toned down emotive melodies & hooks to give us black minutes, on the flip we are truly treated to a rare moment of vocal house heaven with far away, a wicked two tracker!!!
