for russian electronic music, mikhail chekalin is not only a major character, who has affected the sceneís establishment and development, but also a kind of symbolic figure. his music has been praised by many in the west - from journalists and critics of all kinds to frank zappa and karlheinz stockhausen, while in moscow chekalinís name was excluded from the official cultural agenda for a long time: he was accused of propaganda of foreign pro-western aesthetics and up until the end of the 80ís wasnít allowed to release his works or travel abroad. this, however, didnít interfere with him recording dozens of innovative electronic compositions and contributing greatly to the development of unofficial soviet art in general - for example, providing sound design for the famous exhibitions of twenty moscow artists on malaya gruzinskaya or arranging the first audiovisual performances on a specially constructed light organ.
however, just like all great artists, mikhail himself prefers to focus not on personal achievements, but on creativity. i donít have a biography - only a discography - this quote of the author may become an entry point of sorts into the compilation presented. this archival collection of works recorded within the period from 1978 to 1987 are chekalinís multigenre experiments ranging from spatial music (in essence, ambientís precursor) to more contemporary synthesizer and post-symphonic compositions.

million brazilians formed in portland, oregon in 2006. founding members grant corum and suzanne stone have been central to the band since its inception, while a rotating line-up backs them depending on the latest vision for the sound. tip! the band carry out their own interpretation of a genre bending ethos that has evolved throughout the american underground. drifting between boundless compositions, focused energetic improvisations and experimental collaborations that embrace a weird sort of transcendence. their next installment red rose and obsidian was recorded in maine and engineered by big bloodís caleb mulkerin. both he and the band deliver a powerful yet fragile and personal release. the mythical and evocative recordings are inspired by maine s rugged coastlines, mournful ripples of sound wash up on the shore, whilst a lonesome, at times harrowing saxophone drifts through the rolling mountains, providing unsettling melodic interludes. electronic treatments veil organic sounds, a fleeting whistle meets spontaneously with spacey flutes, mutated rock rhythms are topped off with the soaring vocals of suzanne stone who leads the listeners into the magical world of the million brazilians.
nice price deal !!! lullabad is a new project by lullababies and bad ced to come back to an old school techhouse mixing all the influences from different musical currents that feed them over the past 10 years
this is a collection of works from british musician gp hall, recorded between 1994 and 1999. for over four decades, guitar in hand hall encountered many styles, jazz, blues, flamenco, rock, folk, and classical improvisation. all contributed to the creation of his unique style. emerging from the british blues boom of the 1960ís, he then followed a long and winding path through various scenes and cultures. in spain, he was influenced by flamenco master manitas del plata before touring europe with liverpool band casey jones & the governors. he was commissioned three times (twice by the arts council of great britain) for original music and was immersed in the avant-garde scene of the 1970ís as an improviser, a pioneer of electric flamenco and a composer of large-scale ensemble pieces. during the 1980ís hall turned his focus to soundtrack music before reinventing himself as the solo performer he is today. with this strong foundation he branched into a tactile expression of his craft, discovering a new style which he called industrial sound sculptures. these sonic compositions are performed on electric and acoustic guitars as well as the six-string bass and are played with various techniques and implements including slides, battery fans, the psaltery bow, razors, toys, velcro and crocodile clips which are fed through sound processors to create a rich sonic environment.
air cushion finishsdistinctive sound palette reconciles pop music with experimental electronics, think alan bishop meets white noise (with a touch of super collider?) air cushion finish formed in berlin in 2007 and comprises of composer jayrope and natural vocal synthesizer lippstueck, who have graced berlinís underground scene together since the 1990 s. lippstueck sings, wordless and backwards in time while his partner jayrope tends diy, electronic, string or percussion instruments small enough to fit into a small suitcase. changing setup and subsequently music is programmatic to the band, resulting into an unforeseeable slow motion cacophony of whispers, bleeps, rhythms and harmonies. theres a notion of dada, but you never know. the 8th album of acf marks their current state of poetical accident, swaying, swinging and bouncing, boldly careful, like a transparent tattoo on your forehead.

debut vinyl release for this curious japanese producer combining electronics with subtle field recordings across a gorgeous set of arrangements. a maiden voyage too for the lullabies for insomniacs label. blissful tip on this one! sugai ken is an electronic musician based in kanagawa, japan. using synthesis and recordings of his daily surroundings, he conjures the subtle and profound ambience of the japanese nightscape. his music evokes a nocturnal peace that reflects the intangible qualities of his memory and dreams.
this new release makes good on each producers talent for working with epically unfolding tracks, maintaining a strong command of both drone and melodicism, and envisioning sound as a kind of inter-dimensional mass transit.
