after a temporary break away from music to work on other projects foreign concept is back with the skit city ep, the first in a series of new releases.
inspired by his long time friend jack ramsay s new graphic novel of the same name, the title track, featuring mancunian mc fox, creates the perfect sonic backdrop to the intricate aesthetic of the skit city book from which the artwork is taken. watch out for the video coming soon.

a limited edition latin soul brothas fusion rework session! 1st is a remix slept on by maws louie vega (who waited too long to put it out), a rendition of hector lavoes >mi gente< that is absolutely amazing. on the flip, santanas >dance sister dance (baila mi hermana)< gets reworked for a big dancefloor tune. highly recommended!

the locke saints band was a high school band from watts califorinia led by reggie andrews. also known as the msingi workshop, the locke saints band created deep jazz/funk and modern soul. similar to kashmere stage band, there is an energy and mood to the music that is raw yet focused. everlasting love blends soul and funk nicely with an incredible vocal performance, originally recorded by rufus and chaka khan. this 7 inch is limited to 300 copies only!

after their amazing debut release original highway delight and the follow up f.o.g. that were supported by the crme de la crme in the scene, here is the much anticipated third one. definitely a biggie in the nu disco scene.

bxl003 is the third release of the artist-run brussels based label bxl. this third release by simon halsberghe features a collaboration with sagat (real name wiet lengeler), who previously released on the brussels’ label vlek and had his music included in the fabric mixes of both ben klock and joris voorn. the track is called the set-up and is a relentless sawtooth rave tune that finds it’s balance between the heydays of belgian techno and more contemporary ‘hi-fi’ attitudes towards functional yet idiosyncratic dance tracks. on the b-side space tom sounds is a deeper and more hypnotic trip with lush broad pads that provide a space for the mind as well as sonic pressure on the body. the last track, snared, takes things into breakbeat territory. with razor sharp snares and a pulsating baseline this track lives somewhere in the venn diagram overlap between rave, front 242 and an air raid siren going off.

als weiterer höhepunkt eines unglaublichen laufs, der letztes jahr mit sicko (kompakt 322) und you are a blade (kompakt 343) begann, präsentiert der uk-produzent und langjährige kompakt-vertraute rex the dog zwei brandneue knaller auf teufelsberg, ein perfekter spagat zwischen dem kraftvollen, melodieverliebten techno seiner früheren produktionen und dem rohen, muskulösen stil mit analogem biss, welcher seinen aktuellen output charakterisiert. letzteres sollte nicht verwundern, ist rex doch zunehmend in do-it-yourself synthesizer-design abgetaucht und baut inzwischen modulare gerätschaften für seine studio und bühnenbelange selbst. das titelstück teufelsberg startet schlank und sehnig, dreht mit treibenden beats und einer simplen, aber schwer effektiven bassline schnell den hahn auf, der wahre star ist hier jedoch eine mitreissende melodie, die wie in zeitlupe über die gesamte lauflänge des tracks explodiert, dank ungemein malerischer synthesizerklänge die auch vor radikalen breaks nicht zurückschrecken. währenddessen keilt die rückseite mit einer ordentlichen portion rave auf dem industrial-beeinflussten shortwave aus erneut ein unermüdlicher techno-schieber zur besten sendezeit, der sowohl monumental als auch verspielt kann.

walter gibbons, a true master of the mix, a disco legend, a pioneer of dance music. theres literally very few who can lay claim to progressing the artform of studio mixing and technique than the late gibbons. his contribution to contemporary music cannot be understated, first as a dj where his drum laced experimentation captured the ears and minds of his peers and the dancers, then later as a mixer and studio genius where he continued on his quest. often fixated on the percussion and breaks within records his versions would often dive into spaced out, dubby and stripped back territory that very few of his peers were even contemplating at that time, fervently reconstructing the tracks themselves and often the time, space and dancefloor within which the record was being played. a true original, gibbons was behind many of the definitive versions of the classics, his unique style often catapulting records that were just fine in their original form into brand new colourful, cosmic interpretations that flourished sonically and rhythmically with brand new sounds that bristled with vision.
