boys noize über “midnight”: “ich hatte das vocal schon längere zeit und setzte es in meinen dj-sets ein, aber ich fand nie den richtigen aufhänger, um daraus einen song zu machen. mein erster versuch war diese industrial-break-artige idee, aber ich verwarf sie und versuchte viele andere versionen. ich dachte, ich könnte etwas wie “xtc” machen, aber es funktionierte nicht. also holte ich meine initiale idee wieder hervor und ja sie wurde zu meiner lieblinsgversion. dieser prozess ist ein gutes beispiel seinem initialen bauchgefühl und seiner intuition zu vertrauen.”

hier tueftelte kraftwerk im legendaeren klingklang-studio an klassikern wie >autobahn< oder >wir sind die roboter<, hier erlebten rheingold ihre dreiklangsdimensionen, und hier brachte daf den sequenzern das schwitzen bei. ohne den einfluss der düsseldorfer musik haette es gruppen wie omd, heaven 17 und depeche mode wohl nie gegeben. sie alle bezogen sich auf die pioniere der elektrischen stadt, bevor sie selbst botschafter der neuen musik wurden. von diesen pionieren handelt ruediger eschs buch >electri_city - elektronische musik aus duesseldorf< (suhrkamp), dem die hier vorliegende und gleichnamige compilation zur seite gestellt ist.

at its heart, the album celebrates the communal ideal of dance music with spirited, percussive tracks offering a clear distillation of what could only be described as the cadenza sound. but mirko also diverges from the dance floor, ducking into shadowy corners in search of more private emotions. rather than scattering energy, that tension between moods helps bind the album into a potent, coherent whole.
