hifi sean, angesehener dj/produzent (ministry of sound, savage disco) und ex-frontmann der schottischen rave-band the soup dragons, liefert mit -ft.- ein party-pop-album mit gute-laune-faktor und vielen promi-features ab. die 13 tracks basieren auf sonnigen disco/funk/house/techno-grooves, während seine feature-gäste von house-queen crystal waters über funkateer bootsy collins bis avantgardistin yoko ono reichen und bei new wave-legenden wie dave ball (soft cell), fred schneider (b-52s) und alan vega (suicide) lange nicht aufhören.

trevor jackson erlang mit playgroup und als output labelbetreiber (lcd soundsystem, four tet) weltweiten ruhm, später stellte er die strut samplerserie metal dance zusammen. nun erhielt er den auftrag, die elektronische seite des adrian sherwood-labels on-u sound abzubilden, was ihm mit vorliegenden 27(!) tracks auch vorbildlich gelang. die doppel-cd/dreifach-lp science fiction dancehall classics bietet einen perfekten einblick in die früh-1980 er szene, als electro, dub und post-punk kollidierten. neben favoriten von african head charge, mark stewart + the maffia und dub syndicate finden wir den bislang unbekannten track dead come alive aus der frühphase von neneh cherry, sowie zahlreiche tunes, die erstmals auf cd erscheinen, darunter von bim sherman, tackhead und der späteren massive attack-sängerin shara nelson.
