keita sano returns to lets play house with another album, the physical iteration of which we are presenting as two separately-packed 12-inch eps. first is kubo, a sharp and cutting collection of four house ditties that are equal parts eccentrically off-kilter and warmly welcoming, esoterically out there and remarkably familiar, in a way only sano can pull off.

with totsu , we complete our two-part keita sano album. this one, like kubo before, is a fiery maelstrom of house and disco dance floor destruction that has a dusting of that impossible-to-place keita sano absurdity. a magnetic sprint through mpc-fueled workouts, trance-y space-outs, and loopy hypnotizers. together, kubo and totsu make up oototsu , an eight-track long-player that will be made available as special limited-edition vinyl double-pack.

the latest work of keita sano s mad love records is a 12 inch split by up-and-coming musicians: daisuke kondo and keita sano. they hail from okayama!, the alternative dance music label mad love records, and continue to release good quality music one release after another. the fourth release features daisuke kondo who is part of a new generation of producers from the same town as keita sano.

new york coterie sheik ‘n’ beik line up the next 12” in a string of successful releases including legowelt & xosar under their now defunct xamiga guise, jeffrey scott and label owner rechulski. enlisted for their 7th record is the japan based mister saturday night and 1080p affiliate keita sano. with a strong affinity to analogue sound and old school audio processing, sano renders personal mind-maps in his work - eclectic and off-kilter productions shot-through with warmth and propelled by potent drums. his latest offering for sheik ‘n’ beik is one fans old and new will relish: a series of 4 warped excursions showcasing sano’s refined and idiosyncratic studio techniques. ‘bypass motion’ kicks things off with a fizzing 909 and a loose-limbed bass pattern set churning under brisk, steely atmospheres. dense in the low-end, ‘child’s play’ then follows up with a hard-nosed groove carried by horror-movie sweeps and distant computerised vocals.

we finished 2015 with a six-track jumbo ep from borrowed identity and thought we d repeat the same trick for 2016, though this time with originals from okayama-based producer keita sano. eye begins with keep an eye out, pt.2, a propulsive song that sounds like a lost contender for the knight rider theme. own signal keeps things dark, but with a spartan bleakness. the side finishes with smoker, another manic cut that ll give you chills. the flip finds keita exploring brighter sounds without losing that industrial, jagged edge. trmk is essentially a beat track that ll ignite any dance floor and fix is a herky-jerky ditty that ll get you stomping around the club like a possessed reveler. the 12inches cherry on top is think twice, a funky ass-shaker that centers around a crackly sample of crowd noise, a chopped-up disco vocal, and bouncy bass. a fiery finale for this hedonistic party.

san francisco/paris-based label spring theory is back with its fourth release. called sweet bitter love, it s a four track ep of manic sample-driven house from keita sano, a japanese producer who s been on a roll lately with releases for like-minded imprints discos capablanca, mister saturday night, and strictly groove recordings. sweet bitter love kicks off with the tripped-out flair of -once i found a diamond.- it s an uplifiting bongo-led cut with dubby melodics that sound like the kind of thing sleeping bag records would have put out in the early 80s. jacques renault provides a leaner peak-time version — complete with hard-hitting snares and growling bass — via his -once i found a diamond (jacques renault trouble funk remix).- things take a turn for the delightfully weird on the ep s namesake -sweet bitter love.- starting like a straightforward house cut, it explodes into a psychedelic collage of spaghetti western guitars, tribal calls, displaced jazz fills, and other forms of cleverly sampled soundtrack exotica. the release wraps up with yet another curveball on -bouzouk.- here sano lays out a subwoofer-knocking ny garage house rhythm that takes a left turn with frenzied bouzouki playing charting arpeggios through a haze of echoing foreign voices. taken as a whole, sweet bitter love is that rare idiosyncratic bomb of an ep that will keep your dancers moving and your trainspotters guessing — in other words, it s spring theory through and through.

dm002 showcases 5 dance floor cuts from keita sano, lucretio, alter-d, bioroot, and asymmetrical. this ep was inspired by the video games jet set radio and jsrf. some of the soundtracks for jsr and jsrf were produced by the latch brothers (including mike d from the beastie boys), and features tracks from other great musicians such as cibo matto.
the artwork of this release captures the essence of the video game and the ep within. hazy nights out in the capital, neon lights, high rises and 4:00 am eats.

daisuke kondo from okayama, japan, releases a 12inch vinyl rongorongo. dynamic rhythm and dubby multi-layered house groove are equipped in side a 1 o-n-ra. side a 2 turn is a dance track that has tribal rhythm and cosmic scale. on the side b, two cool similar versions remixed by a young genius keita sano, which feel raw, are recorded. he is from okayama as well, and has released his works from various labels around the world, such as mister saturday night or crue-l, now attracting a lot of attention. the low sound that sounds like it is boosting speakers feels comfortable. this is a special single produced by two youngsters from the same town.

this is brothers and sisters, a summary of the sound of mister saturday night records to date. the album brings together all the artists who’ve released on the label – alex burkat, anthony naples, archie pelago, boya, dark sky, general ludd, gunnar haslam, hank jackson, keita sano and lumigraph – combining music made specifically for this record and tracks that have until now only been available on vinyl. (a special triple vinyl edition of all the unreleased tracks is being released in conjunction with the cd.)
