with time spent away developing his studio, methods of mixing, as well as acquiring a small stash of new hardware, the resulting ep - inspired by recent travels to south east asia - effuses all these elements and passions together with that signature raw m.t. knack for organic percussion, heavily washed synths and pulsating rhythms.

blue hawaii is the songwriting, production, and dj project of raphaelle ‘ra’ standell and alexander ‘agor’ kerby. after some four years apart, the duo rekindled their creative flame in 2016 and begun writing music about an intimate relationship ra was experiencing mostly over instant messaging, sparking ideas about the meaning of closeness in our highly connected world. tenderness is a concept album which brings forth the challenges of handling relationships online. maintaining closeness over distance and a need for more tenderness between each other - both in real and virtual life - are important themes in the album s progression. the album draws upon influence from 90 s dance tracks and deep disco cuts, often mixed with ra’s acoustic guitar playing. it unfolds like a play and each song being supported by shorter interlude pieces: skits, phone calls, acoustic demos, real life samples and quiet left-turns.

young adults return to the fold with another gem from the polish underground. having bubbled up in the polo house scene for the last couple years, 2017 finds richu m stepping into the forefront for his debut outing donor goes to hawaii . rhythm-centric, but varied in approach, the 6-tracker traverses swirling techno, heady thumpers, muddy beatscapes and throwback boom bap. simultaneously airy and off-kilter, the release shows a breadth of approach that is not easily pigeonholed, but feels vaguely familiar. opener round soundtracks a laser tag pursuit scene with swayed synths, chattering percussion, and pitch-shift vocal echoes. the title track donor goes to hawaii takes a dilla bounce kit to the beach and gets the vibraphone and organ all sandy. jazzy piano loops and squelchy synths stack wobbly layers high like jenga blocks on aquarian mummies . pistaccio gets subterranean with infectious skittered patterning and a proper bump to boot. picking up the pace, melting dolphins is a funky floor filler. finale landskates blisses out with floating pads and a meditative drumroll.

hiding slightly out of plain sight, australian producer mood j has been secretly crafting lush house jams for the last half decade bubbling just under the visible surface.
with the artist and asquith having briefly touched base at the beginning of the label’s journey, it took only a chance encounter in a ballarat bungalow in 2016 to reignite the flames of the artist-label relationship. jimmy surprisingly bumping into jon (mood j), as he was daze’s housemate in aus, whilst the lobster crew were on tour there.
mood j’s hard drive was stashed with archive of warm, sizzling, analogue studio tracks cooked to the nines, and so here we are just over 14 months later with the full epic debut in hand.

after reviving his 16-bit soul with rampantly joyful and excessively hedonistic escapades in new york, the now newly-named sonikku (casting off the dj moniker of old and focussing purely on his namesake) takes refuge in the legendary high altitude temple, rising from the forest through the clouds and to a monumental blue-hued floating structure. sky sanctuary.
