label head steven rutter joins forces with john shima (fs005) on this bright ep with its direction turned towards the light. the heavenly ‘skywards’ leads the way upwards with tenderly treated spacious drum programming and light-as-air atmospherics while darker and deeper cavernous tones create the yin-yang balance of lightness and dark. ‘broken spell’ continues the uplifted vibe of a spell that when broken, blooms open with an intoxicating permeating sweetness like an exotic fragrance that lingers in one’s memory. ‘a new day’ leans slightly more towards a heavier driven track featuring a funky bassline with bright electronic notations as counterpoint while drifting, dreamy pads keep the overall mood airy and light. the off-kilter knob is turned way right on the bouncy final track ’disjointed route’, injecting dashes of wry quirk alongside a lightly moving groove.

the in-demand finnish duo morphology joins firescope records for their 10-track ‘traveller’ lp — a vision of travel to destination unknown.

this is the ninth ep on firescope records, the new sub-label of the legendary b12 records. although b12 output has been the solo work of steven since 2015-2017, this time he steps outside of the b12 name and releases under his own name. one of the founders of uk techno, he has released on labels such as warp records uk, b12 records, soma records, delsin records, firescope records, art , buzz and de:tuned.

in 2001 derek launched his own label ‘trident recordings’ and released the ‘copper beech e.p.’ (the only release to date) a collection of deep soulful techno, it has since become something of a collector’s item. subsequent releases on ‘digital soul’ headspace nice & nasty and ‘geek records’ further cemented carr’s place amongst a new generation of techno producers that looked to combine soul and melody with electronic dance floor grooves. the ep entitled distant systems is a musical adventure for a quest for a new home land, a new planet, a new start, it is proper techno, proper melodies , beats and pads for this adventure. derek is a master at creating thoughtful emotive and simply wonderful techno that fits in so naturally on firescope records

the ep entitled vinkelvolten showcases bauri’s form of techno on a platform that, as promised, will diversify and show consistency. this ep takes us on a journey built around gorgeous sounds and crisp abstract beats to a place calmness and peace. originally part of bauri’s 2nd album that never got released due to the slow down in the idm scene, these tracks have matured like a fine wine for 12 years, and now are on a 12” released by b12.

the fifth ep on firescope records, the new sub label of the legendary b12 records, welcomes mr john shima. established in sheffield in the early 90’s with a multitude of releases, john has appeared on ferox, boe recordings, common dreams, diametric, and subwax to name but a few ! the ep entitled elements unknown, is pure techno for laying back in a dark room and floating away, highly detailed layers of electronic sounds interweaved together to create emotion rarely found in electronic music. drawing inspiration from uk pioneers such as b12, stasis, lfo, black dog but delivering it in a modern way, john has managed to carve out his own unique sound while staying true to his roots. this is uncorrupted uk techno in its purest form.

sixth ep on firescope records the new sub label of the legendary b12 records. this release is by b12 ft yonii, uk techno fused with wonderful pure and beautiful vocals. b12 established early 90’s with a multitude of releases appearing on warp records uk, b12 records, soma records, delsin records, firescope records, art , buzz, de:tuned. the ep entitled in vain is the first ep featuring b12 and the wonderful singer songwriter yonii. these are real songs, with real meanings and are the the result of a pure and wonderful collaboration. the tracks tell a story, and with open ears and heart they will deliver the message clearly. “sympathy” a very acoustic sounding drum and percussion arrangement held together with glorious b12 esq pads is the opener here. the vocals elevate this track to another level, with a dangerous equilibrium of vulnerability and distain. “shotgun” straight in with a heavy synth baseline and lyrics. a menacing track featuring a vocal that floats effortlessly on a downtempo b12 vibe. an exposed interplay of rhythmic melodies and dark imagery. “moth” a busy beat and synth driven backdrop provide the platform for yonii to tell her story of love and pain. is it all in vain? why must we gravitate towards the flame that ultimately extinguishes us…. “sympathy (beatz)” & “moth (beatz)” just the beatz of the main tracks :-) finished in glorious white and green splatter vinyl with exclusive full colour artwork by the wonderful catherine prendergast aka cellar doo

the ep entitled deceased unknown, a seemingly morbid piece of art (art/music) but look a little deeper! this ep sees b12 pick up the pace from their previous firescope release brokenunbroken “coduktor” an organ plays some subtle chords behind this track while beautiful drums skip along on top, to create a sonic backdrop for the very quirky melodies and top lines that constantly evolve and interpolate. a spiritual experience ? “dont look down” 808 and 909 drum and pads always a killer combination add to this an odd malformed bass line which never really reveals quite what it is doing makes for a pretty interesting track. don’t look down where is the question “blue and green capsule” a pumping kick drum sets the pace for this track which builds up using classic b12 style drums. the swirling pads and sliding melodies interlaced make this track reminiscent of “epillion” as featured on the classic b12 album “time tourist” on warp records in 1996. a track you can move your feet as well as your head to “minor decay” brain decay , world decay , urban decay , human decay , music decay, unavoidable decay - a simple straightforward techno track using its simplicity to conjure up feelings of sadness and thoughtfulness as well as joy and hope. a new hope finished in glorious red with black splatter vinyl with exclusive artwork by sarah sparkes

firescope records is the new sub label of the legendary b12 records. a label core to the uk techno scene with roots starting in the early 90’s launched by michael golding and steven rutter. firescope records is here to exist in conjunction with b12 records and with the same ethos, quality music, quality packaging, without compromise and a product that will stand the test of time. firescope will diversify somewhat, not just deep meaningful techno, but also techno with vocals, real songs with real meaning.
