ellen allien prepares to release her first ever solo ep outside of her bpitch control imprint and has chosen a label she avidly admires, boddika s nonplus. as a dj, producer, bpitch control label founder and organiser of the regular we are not alone parties in the city and elsewhere, ellen allien was not only there when the techno sound of berlin was moulded in the basements of squats all over the capital but continues to be a tireless advocate of all aspects of this culture more than ever, as indicated also by her international vinylism event series. take a stand , her debut release for boddika s nonplus records, is as much informed by all those experiences as it is by the relentless hope and passion that have driven ellen allien ever since she stepped up to the decks of the infamous fischlabor in the early 90s. take a stand is a three-part statement about (and for) the here and now...

im frühjahr veröffentlichte ellen allien ihr siebtes album nost. nun gibt es remixe zu ihrem versatilen techno-trip. der us-amerikaner truncate verwandelt innocence in einen von claps und hi-hat angefeuerten techno-hit. gerd janson feuert rau und serviert einen gut gelaunten big-room-stepper-remix von call me. der new yorker falty dl verwandelt erdmond in ein sensationell entspannt goovendes downbeatfest und die japanische experimentalproduzentin kyoka formt ebenfalls call me in ein abenteuerlich avantgardistisch hüpfendes stück, das intensiv bewegt.

Über neun wegweisende tracks verteilt demonstriert ellen allien, warum sie weithin als eine der pioniere der berliner technoszene gilt. eine visionärin, die einen sound entwickelt hat, der sich weiterhin entwickelt und in neue bereiche vorstößt. der sich zwischen klassischen analogen acidgeräuschen und der anarchischen pracht hypnotisierender und himmlischer klanglandschaften bewegt. -nost- ist das werk einer frau, die sich selbst gefunden hat, aber sich trotzdem weiterhin pusht, um aus ihrer komfortzone herauszutreten, die immer noch neues erschafft, immer noch lernt und sich immer noch nach mehr sehnt. das ist ellen allien, das ist berlin und das ist nost .

for organ and brass is comprised of two works by the stockholm-based composer ellen arkbro. both works focus on tuning, intonation and harmonic modulation. in previous projects, arkbro composed for early music ensembles, wrote a series of durational pieces utilising synthetic tones and processed guitars, and, most recently, presented a work lasting 26 days at the stockholm concert hall. for organ and brass looks back to arkbro’s studies in just intonation with la monte young, marian zazeela, and their disciple jung hee choi in new york, as well as with kindred spirit marc sabat in berlin.

bevor dieses jahr die festival saison begonnen hat bin ich in berlin ins studio gegangen und habe einige tracks für meine sets aufgenommen. zwei stücke davon spiele ich immer und immer wieder, sie wurden zum soundtrack für diesen sommer. sie sind hypnotisch und freaky genauso wie meine dj-sets. bei der produktion der beiden stücke habe ich einige von meinen lieblingsinstrumenten verwendet, die 303, die 909 und den minimoog, um düstere, verzerrte vocals, seltsame beats und pure, drastischer emotion zu erzeugen. die platte ist meine definition des allien sounds. ellen allien, september 2016

weichgeklopft und richtig glücklich: ellen allien meldet sich mit „turn off your mind“ zurück, einer ep deren titel darauf verweist, das es der berliner dj, produzentin und labelchefin um in klang gegossene monotonie geht, durch die der geist den leib verlässt und nur noch der körper im wind der bässe und rhythmen flattert. „hoo“ und „off“ heißen ihre beiden neuen tracks. sie sind schnell, fesselnd und roh wie ungeschliffener stahl. produziert wurden sie an der guten, alten roland aira tr-8, der roland tb 303 und einem jupiter synthie anfangs bei ellen allien im wohnzimmer - einem ort der sich perfekt für tiefschürfende zeitreisen eignet, um dann später im studio fortgesetzt zu werden. ihre beiden musikalisches trips gehen zurück ins berlin der neunziger, jener zeit in der sie gast und resident in legendären clubs wie dem e-werk, dem planet und dem tresor war und sich vom sog der nacht tief ins innere grober techno- und acid-sphären aufsaugen liess. beide tracks dehnen sich auf epische acht minuten aus, verbreiten durchdringende technomagie und lassen sie mit sounds tanzen, die zum bedingungslosen „lost in music“ auffordern. eine kraftvolle ep, gemacht für nächte, in denen niemand merkt das der tag jenseits der dancefloor-euphorie anbricht. zeitgleich zur veröffentlichung startet die bpitch control chefin eine neue party reihe mit dem titel bpitch boogy, die in einem berliner warehouse ihre neue heimat hat. und natürlich tourt sie auch um den planeten und stellt die treibende energie ihrer an die roots von techno und acid erinnernden tracks einem weltweiten publikum vor

ellen allien s work lism is already being referred to as a milestone in the label s history: rarely has an album from the circle of bpc artists deviated so far from the club context as lism. the label boss has radically disposed of all established musical templates and created space for 45 minutes of sonic experiments that lie well beyond any functional paradigm – a highly emotional soundtrack for one s -inner cinema-, but also a creative process with a considerable fun factor.

ellen alliens erste ep in 2015 beweist mal wieder, dass die liebe zur musik doch die schönste droge auf erden ist. weil aus der euphorie schnell ein rausch werden kann, gerade wenn diese liebe ausgelassen auf dem dancefloor geteilt wird, ist ihre 11-minütige reise * high* auch der tanzenden crowd gewidmet. und auch auf der b-seite geht es um energieaustausch: * lou* steht exemplarisch für die treibenden parts von ellens sets. listen. feel. space out.

auf ihrer letzten ep * freak* zeigte sich ellen allien im hochsommer 2014 mal wieder von ihrer besonders vielgestaltigen seite. drei tracks mit drei bewegenden gefühlszuständen die jeweils für sich einmalig positive emotionen verbreiten. besonders der track * freak the night*, der mit wärmendem bass, 303-acid-tupfern, roland-piano-klängen und ellen alliens anfeuerndem gesang eindringliche rave-signale verteilt, entwickelte sich zum hit. nun hat die berlinerin befreundete künstler wie aux 88, radio slave und ejeca gebeten den verspielt kreativen track und das ebenfalls auf der letzten ep zu hörende stück * butterfly* zu remixen.

die -freak ep- ist nicht nur das ergebnis der letzten monate in berlin, es markiert auch den wechsel nach ibiza, wo ellen die warme jahreszeit nutzt, um unter anderem im dc 10 ihren positiven vibe zu versprühen. -butterfly- macht den anfang und setzt nicht nur anmutige 808-nadelstiche, mit der verträumten melodie im hintergrund entsteht eine sehnsüchtige aura, die ellens warme seite offenbart. gerade das bass-grollen betont auf imposante weise die physische verve ihrer musik – kurz: pure liebe. -come to me- ist begierde und leidenschaft in siebeneinhalb minuten. zusätzlich zum deepen grundgerüst drängen sich groovy beats, die eine hypnotische beschwörungsformel freisetzen. willenlose dancefloor-magie, die mit dem eindringlichen rave-signal, schwebenden roland-synths und sh101-raveline die zeit zurückspult. mit dem titeltrack -freak the night away- ist ellen einmal mehr eine hymne gelungen, die sowohl die devise jeder großartigen nacht als auch die atmosphäre ihrer energetischen dj-sets verkörpert. auch hier hören wir erneut ellens stimme – verrückt, verspielt, kreativ. immer nach dem motto: einfach go! mit scheppernden claps und einem warmen bass wird das tanzen nicht nur zum zwang, der track geht mit seinen 303-acid-andeutungen sowie roland piano-sounds eindeutig unter die haut und öffnet die pforten in eine andere dimension.

bpc-lady ellen allien öffnet die türen zum allien dance. dark electro meets house! die aktuelle 12 inch >galactic horse< wurde von ihren labelkollegen skinnerbox co-produziert - expect the unexpected, möchte man sagen - und trifft damit genau ins schwarze: >take me out< knallt dem hörer einen knochentrockenen, knackig-rohen oldschool-electrofunk-beat um die ohren, der in den folgenden siebeneinhalb minuten portionsweise mit eingängigen streicher-hooks und athmos versüßt wird. unwiderstehlich!

after ellen alliens album >dust< kicked up a lot of the same in 2010, it was only a matter of time until the right remixers for the album were found. no less than the creme de la creme of today s house scene was allowed to have their way with these tracks. and the results are more than fitting. although we have already burned a full-length cd containing all of the remixes they created, we are not planning on leaving the vinyl-loving faction (or whats left of them) out in the cold either. this 12 inch features three powerful club tracks from three outstanding remixers. each unrivalled in their own space.
