discobar re-launches in search of other galaxies with its second outing from toulouse-based duo zendid. they take us on three voyages through the electro-infused house grooves they made their name with, while still finding time to bring in mayaan nidaam for a remix. space has us seeing stars right from the start, with an alien menagerie conversing over a strict-form beat. the bassline on virgin virgin is big enough to give you butterflies, tempered by stellar synths and wordless vocal clips. berlin 6 takes the bass for a lighter walk and finally, mayaan nidam remixes space into a nebulous and reflective place, pads breaking through the thick atmosphere mid-track for a moment of zero gravity meditation.

part 2 of darren allen’s discobar debut takes us on four more precision mindtrips, exploring further the technological influences found in part 1. on ‘atonement’, clattering percussive and plunging bass come laced with a stinsonesque synth line, creating a flightier vibe. the distorted hum of hardware-gone-haywire introduces ‘scanners’, a convulsed tribute to the cronenburg classic that rounds out this ep in typically trippy style.‘tv sickness’ is a post-perlon prowler, the softened shuffle of its first half returning with renewed vigour after a woozy mid-track breakdown, then reprised in a beatless coda.

light on his feet but not afraid to throw a punch when required, robin ordell rustles up three insouciant but meaty groovers for his second discobar release. auguste iii stretches languorously across the a-side, skippy hats cutting through the rolling, bass groove in his now unmistakeable style. lost in misty byways goes for a more sprightly walk in the park, but its nonchalance becomes increasingly threatened by dissonant voices and faulty background circuitry. finally, the sauntering bass on chelbergerho gives momentum to atmospherics that inhabit the border between dark and light harmony, never quite resolving but always pushing forwards into the morning sunshine. for robin ordell and discobar, the summer has definitely begun.

darren allen joins the family at discobar for a 2-part release, the first containing four abstract grooves disrupted by distinctive sound interventions both synthesised and real. a clock ticking on ‘initiation’ joins rapping snares in giving intent to the track’s floating melodic figures and vocalisations. ‘manitou’ overlays steppy breaks with the rumble and roar of the eponymous heavy-duty vehicle, an invasion of the outside world sure to bewilder some dancefloors.things turn darker with distorted highs and groggy mid-range drift in ’obyvatel’, before the quiet industry of ’molecular’ – its assorted bubbles and rattles both musical and humorous – brings us back to the light.

in 1976, fela anikulapo kuti & afrika 70 released a total of 8 albums including the hit zombie. at the time of their height, tony allen, fela s drummer, decided to release a follow-up album to jealousy. progress was the result of a series of studio sessions, featuring fela himself with a tenor solo on the title-track. the b-side contains the dancefloor filler “afro disco beat”. . today, comet proudly presents the 2nd release of the tony allen & africa 70 (disco afro series): featuring remastered original versions of “afro disco beat” and remixes by africaine 808 & mexican institute of sound. africaine 808, the berlin-based duo of dirk leyers and dj nomad (hans reuschl), have been challenging the norm with their distinctive flavor of west african bass, rhythms and samples mixed into moreish disco and house tracks. camilo lara, known as the mexican institute of sound is a musician, remixer, producer, dj and label manager for casete records in mexico, which has distributed albums from artists such as radiohead, bjork, jamie xx and nick cave

discobar is coming back with a french addition to the label, based in paris and the third part of the trio antislash. we welcome toba, our dear friend who has signed an original ep for the 2nd release on discobar. we can definitely hear the techno minimal sounds with a touch of deepness. baptiste veilhan aka toba shows us his universe with more than 10 years of experience behind him in production with the trio antislash. this will be his first apparition in solo.
