heat in two belgian flavors! check out the zaïrian electronic dance floor banger “nakombe nga” by les choc stars. comes with the dope, largely unheard belgium new beat version on the flip from the teknokrat s. both tracks were originally released in 1989 and this is the first time they appear together on 12-. reissue co-curated with renowned record fiend john gomez. the music on this winning double-sider was written by tony baron and gery françois, two belgian producers that were involved in several musical projects on the new beat scene in the 1980s. they worked under many aliases and recorded the teknokrat’s haunting “what did she say?” at the famous studio madeleine in brussels in 1989. prompted by jean martin from espera records, baron adapted the music into a further two songs to be released that year, virginity’s melancholic “the key”, and the surprising but ear catching collaboration with the label’s soukous stars, ben nyamabos les choc stars du zaire. it is still a mystery how the seeds were planted for the one-off pairing that culminated in the electronic soukous bomb “nakombe nga”. what is certain is that it is set to light up dancefloors worldwide.

autodidact is back with an ep by qindek, who offers up three delicate techno tracks with beautiful modular sounds and intricate drum patterns. on the b-side we find the legendary icelandic (dub)techno producer thor (thule records) with a deep but dancefloor-friendly remix.

lee burridge, lost desert and junior akwety return with summer vibes all the way. following last year s subtle monster lingala, they bring the sunshine once again with three tracks. elongis vocal floats above its foundation of warm sub bass and groovy beats and always seems to induce at least one person in the crowd to sing along. even though we know they don t speak lingala (a language from congo). mona yo is a little groovier. floaty house music for outdoors. talking of floaty, the ep is wrapped up by float on. its pretty for sure but has a certain drive thats been rocking the all day i dream dance floor all year. close your eyes and daydream.

gab rhome is back on all day i dream with, believe it or not, his very first solo release. we first encountered our bowtie wearing friend via his collaboration with maher daniel way back in the label s catalogue. he dropped by again last summer as one of the tracks on our annual summer sampler release with venus. it rocked the beatport deep house chart for months. continuing in that vein we find two wonky fun summery house tunes with rolling grooves, tinkling pianos, glassy sounds and memorable melodies which is fun to say by the way go on, say it. say it out loud right now on your plane journey, in the coffee shop, hotel room or in bed with your cat words and music to make you smile

discobar re-launches in search of other galaxies with its second outing from toulouse-based duo zendid. they take us on three voyages through the electro-infused house grooves they made their name with, while still finding time to bring in mayaan nidaam for a remix. space has us seeing stars right from the start, with an alien menagerie conversing over a strict-form beat. the bassline on virgin virgin is big enough to give you butterflies, tempered by stellar synths and wordless vocal clips. berlin 6 takes the bass for a lighter walk and finally, mayaan nidam remixes space into a nebulous and reflective place, pads breaking through the thick atmosphere mid-track for a moment of zero gravity meditation.

animals dancing continues its quest for world domination with a double a side of russian intelligence from moscows leonid lipelis. as the title would suggest, these two sides come from lipelis private arsenal of club tracks, beefd up and shared with the people after some friendly persuasion. i.o.d.t.f.m.b.n.i.f.e.

paper tree sneaked out into the world for a moment a few years back and then vanished. lee burridge loved the track so much that he continued to harass rebelski, sometimes standing outside his window in the flower bed, for weeks on end until he finally agreed to let lee release it on all day i dream. not content with a single track lee went back to rebelskis garden and tapped on the window repeatedly until he agreed to make some more beautiful tracks. obviously pestering producers in this manner bares fruit. the paper tree ep ranges from a beautiful solitary solo piano piece that wouldn t be amiss in a british period piece drama where someone dies unexpectedly leaving the survivors to deal with it, all the while maintaining their stiff upper lip. fly the kite made us want to go outside and do just that. so we did. it was epic. circles and squares joins paper tree as one of those dance floor moments best experienced with ones eyes closed. myriad is the sound of a young lady robots jewelry box (yes, we predict robots will be wearing jewelry in the future) that she(bot) pines to hear when she s all grown up and rusty. omoshiroi is, well, its just so damn pretty. good work rebelski. good work.

after dominating our piccadilly player with his recent lp -it s alright between us as it is-, norwegian disco hero hans-peter lindstrøm drops a dj friendly maxi 12- of brand new track -didn t know better-. harking back to his collaborative lp with christabelle, this party starter is packed with infectious boogie licks, propulsive grooves, soulful strings and killer vocals from ronika. a masterpiece of retro-futurist pop perfection, -didn t know better- traces a line between mirrorball masterpieces from nyc 83, ibiza 99 and ross 128b in the year 2030. alongside the sequined shimmer of the original version, we get an acapella, and a lindstrom remix which piles on the feel good with jingo style pianos, mellifluous keys and some club trop style riffage - utterly infectious and exactly what a dull february morning requires.

after playing lovestar to death we reached out to see if sebastien was still feeling in an emotional mood. we discovered quickly that, in fact, this is where his creative heart lives and breathes. the two tracks featured here were conjured up (in a daydream we like to believe) in time to play out at all the summer closing events in the usa and on be tvs coverage at the bpm festival and our south american tour. already loved. already track id d and already to create more magical moments. enjoy!

french duo zendid launches their own imprint timeframe with am isobho ep, a four tracker with powerful and hypnotic cuts, highly effective for the dance floor.

bliq continues its quest to mine the deepest shades of techno with this release from iakovos, who had previously appeared on the label as lowjac and in the formidable duo deemonlover. this is sharply focused mind music layered with subtle detail and rich textures perfectly honed for hazy hours at the far reaches of the party. -singers- melds hypnotic pads with gossamer-light threads of breakbeat and warm synth pulses, while -evil flower- pushes a tougher rhythmic agenda without losing the ethereal atmosphere. -adidas people- rides on a surging kick drum pattern, but leaves ample room for a distant drone, and then -hackney tower- heads into edgier territory with all manner of obtuse angles and unnerving sound effects pivoting around the insistent drum core of the track.
