some 20 years on from its initial release, it s amazing how fresh and current praise by leigh dickson sounds, every bit as reinvigorating as a swim in an icy mountain stream. sushitech imprint pariter have opted to remaster the lush original mix in its full glory, adding the already well known and much loved baby ford heavenly circuit remix alongside a new, unreleased alternative remix and new mixes by pariter s own ogerman and derek carr. all four sides are eminently playable in the deep house/techno framework, as you d imagine, with varying levels of the original s bewitching instrumentation retained.

kontakt welcomes a very talented danish artist from the city of aalborg to the label. the original deep dubhouse version gets a classical derek carr signature treatment while the stunning interpretation by roger gerressen sends the track on a long, deep and dubby journey. limited coloured vinyl.

repress 2020 - derek carr is a name known by few and far between, with only a handful of vinyl releases in the early 2000s, he built a worthy but unfortunately not widely-spread reputation for putting together stunning deep techno. originally pressed in finite numbers, the records have recently found themselves in demand on discogs, and rightly so, derek s music is in a class of its own. having been a big fan since his releases on then local (to label owner ben) leeds label geek records, for those that knoe has dug deep into the archives to put together a sizeable selection of derek s back catalogue, with some unreleased gems dotted amongst the classic must-haves, spread across three eps part three in derek s starts with cuba, probably the most sought after track in his back catalogue. it s stunning simplicity and charming summer vibe puts it amongst derek s greatest works and understandably so. red then slots into the a2 position which was originally released under the radar on a headspace compilation. as warm as cuba but with an added touch of melancholy. truly outstanding deep house. iceberg takes things back more into techno territory with a funked up bass line, stepping rhythms, detroit strings and those trademark twinkly leads. finally penthouse apartment 3am a lush electro breakbeat track from the very hard to find trident release, rounds off the ep with aplomb

derek s music instantly takes the listener on a midnight drive, cruising the grand river avenue through detroit. derek carr s ability to create soulful melodies that effortlessly wrap themselves around bouncy basslines and elegant beats is not only classy – it s classical. derek carr is not from the detroit though.. he s an irishman through and through, born and bred in westmeath, about 3400 miles from the state of michigan. yet he absolutely nails it! after two decades of crafting his own sound with analogue synths and samplers with the music culture of motor city as an inspiration, derek carr doesn t sound like anyone else. all the archetypical detroit sounds are there – from the robotic bleeps in binary systems to the moody strings of metro city – but derek carr uses them to create a primarily club oriented vibe, uplifting and positive.

the artwork for this album is made by abdul haqq, the legendary visual artist responsible for a great number of classic covers for artists and labels such as juan atkins, derrick may, transmat, drexciya, carl craig, planet e and underground resistance...
