hidhawk is the musical alter ego of haydeé jiménez. the mexican-based artist and cultural entrepreneur is running a busy life organizing events and cultural projects alongside the border of mexico and the us. during the night, bedtime stories like alpagain evolve from the field recordings she is collecting on her various journeys. alpagain consists of recordings from istanbul, tijuana, berlin and salzburg, featuring sounds of alpine instruments such as the alphorn, ocarina and hammered dulcimer (hackbrett). the 15 minutes track is brought to the club context on the b-side of the record with a driving remix by gerald peklar and a dub retreatment by analog solutions mastermind eduardo de la calle.

ace current electronic reggae / dub reggae cuts

frankfurt based paradroid is the infamous hero of the microhouse sound alongside guys like s-max and fym. he’s already been in the scene for quite a while and had releases on labels like force inc. music works and boogizm to name a few. strong microhouse like in the ol’ days.

after being in the reggae band the heavymanners (parted in 2009) led by takeshi heavy akimoto, and participating as a supporting member of dry&heavy after which the band reunited with the original rhythm section, sahara (keyboard/programming) and ohkuma, who worked as the drummer of soul dimension, started the dub unit undefined. it is no exaggeration to say they have pushed the variously formatted term of dub to the far shore experimentally and furthermore, liberated the definition of dub to undefined. their debut 7inch vinyl released in march last year from their own label newdubhall is being well received even overseas and in the spring of 2018, this 10inch vinyl new culture days will be out, which will be their second release.

dan curtin s name has long been associated with future looking techno, machine music oozing with soul and emotion. he has released on many seminal labels throughout his career and left an indelible mark on contemporary electronic music. alive / cascade is perhaps a lesser known entry into curtin s catalogue, released on strictly in 1994 and is almost the perfect synthesis of nyc deep house and detroit techno, a true slept on gem of a record. the music contained within the grooves of this record defy any sort of time frame, it s almost hard to believe it s over 20+ years old. a truly beautiful record, alive / cascade is a must for all electronic music lovers and will undoubtedly continue to be played and enjoyed for the next 20+ years ahead. astounding stuff and yet another example of the wide reaching ears and minds operating strictly rhythm during this golden period.
