after almost two decades, dan pius album self education (moto 003) finally gets the vinyl treatment it deserves: the best tracks extracted from dat tapes, pressed on wax and renamed to living in fear for cartulis music s fourth release. even though the original and incredibly exclusive cd was heard and appreciated in the years around its release in 1999 from djs such as jeff mills and carl craig, it was virtually impossible to own (only 30 copies were made, ever). despite its rarity and status, cartulis choses this masterpiece for one principal reason: the music. an exhibition of an innovative era, of heavy duty machinery (roland juno 60, roland juno 106, roland tr-909 and emu vintage keys, just to name a few) and of fine craftsmanship (using his own samples and playing the keys himself), the album opens your mind and ears to interconnecting styles of ambient atmospheres, electronic-instrumental hip hop, and signature dance-floor killers self education and living in fear. not only for fans of dan piu and his subsequent labels (moto music, deepartsounds, no acting vibes) but for any music aficionado that appreciates a deeply cult classic.

lionsprintcomplete intenthousand practicesthus comeone a mysterious box arrived at the office labelled tsho-drong zimpo. inside were incense sticks, a bubble wrapped dat tape with a telephone number on it. we lit the sticks, ran the dat and a call was made almost immediately.

after the big succesfull of the “metti una bossa a cena”, gerardo frisina now presents the unbelievable, amazing 2nd volume. a precious recovery of the past to revitalise the present, which builds up new ideas of the future. “metti una bossa a cena”, whose title is completely inspired by the famous soundtrack by ennio morricone, goes on into this research field, discovering very rare tracks of this italian bossa panorama. we believe the result is perfect. gerardo frisina, track compiler of this project, has brought to light some rare tracks and perfectly matched them to create a unique and elegant thread.

“never change a winnig team”. that s what radio citizen s niko schabel must have thought when he decided to release his fourth album once again on sonar kollektiv. after the success of “the night & the city” (sk310lp / cd) from 2015 and the productive collaboration ever since this seems like a wise resolution. schabel s idea to retrieve to a mountain cabin in salvenberg, tirol with his band and tons of equipment turned out to be an even more crucial factor to the cause. here they could create and record new songs and bring them together neatly for the new album. the 13 tracks assembled here on “silent guide” are – each on its own and in its entirety anyway – best proof how wonderfully this approach has worked out.

jorge c. is not only a great producer (who was also signed by the legendary detroit matrix label), but also label owner of the well known chile based ojo de apolo. jorges music is strongly rooted in detroit deep house, chicago jack sounds and mid-nineties peak time housemusic, but also known to just as easily fuse a wide variety of other styles including dub, experimental electronica, future jazz, nu wave, disco, afro beats & particularly 80ies rare funk. check *love song*, an absolut party firecracker fused with funk elements which really freaked us away. dan piu aka george b. from allstarr motomusic re-worked jorges *jam* song slightly by adding some cool cuts and jazz chords. big shouts to our graphic artist and multi talent popshop, who always delivers 100% quality. pressing on red coloured & marbled vinyl.
