soul jazz records are releasing count ossie and the rasta family’s long lost reggae album ‘man from higher heights’ (originally released in 1983), digitally remastered and with full original artwork. this release follows on from the earlier release of count ossie and the mystic revelation of rastafari ‘tales of mozambique’ (1975) also by soul jazz records.

crossing back on the floor. avion delivers 2 new techno slices packed with mastermind remixes by tripeo and blind observatory. the release starts with the ‘intro‘ which brings up the mood of the record with futuristic signal bleeps and a warm analogue pad surrounded by kicking and stuttering percussions. the original of ‘centum‘ starts slowly to bring up heavy bassline surrounded by bright noises and alternating noise swirl verbed to voices highlighting partial explosions to end with bleep and soft strings. crossing 006 this time welcomes two fantastic artists as remixer and lays down ‘centum‘ to tripeo and blind observatory for their re-­&#8208,,interpretation. tripeo stays on the rough and kicking side of techno and delivers with his interpretation packed with the original strings and an analogue synth noise accompanied by a straight drumwork and cutted hi hats a kicking weapon for the floor. the myterious blind observatory takes the vibe of the original and pumped it with an acid bass to create a parallel universe built by dreamy strings highlighting the rides to lose control in the perfect moment. a real dancefloor killer.

rough and hypnotic techno tracks for the floor. early support comes from len faki, adam beyer, laurent garnier, alan fitzpatrick etc. . berlin based label, crossing, has its sights focussed firmly on the dancefloor. crossing 004 again sees label boss avion step up to the plate to deliver two tantalising techno slices. crossing 004 sees the label welcome its first ever remixer onboard as “era“ is placed confidently in the hands of thomas hessler. the berlin native takes the rough and noisy sounds of “era“ and switches them up to create a warm pulsating rework, powered by his blistering drum work.

the extended project *inversion* follows his three track release *sleepwalkers* in 2013 and *timelines* in 2014. om unit was schooled via metalheadz. although he earned his stripes via hip hop as dj 2tall it was breakbeat-hardcore and jungle that shaped his attitude towards electronic music and the ferocious trail blazing of the metalheadz crew was an undoubted inspiration. thus it makes perfect sense that his take on this sound, his contribution to moving this sound forward comes via metalheadz. the sonic nature of the project is rooted in london, chicago and detroit- drums, subs and textures.

around7 follows up his two laidback funk/jazz albums for robsoul jazz with his first ever venture into house music. his double crossing ep released through the main robsoul recordings imprint on 4th april 2014. the parisian, who previously delivered the back to basics and soul on wire lps to critical acclaim, continues his production style of sampling complemented by live, organic sounds. producer influences such as j dilla and dj premier continue to be in evidence, alongside the jazz of miles davis, bill evans and the legendary blue note records, all given a 4/4 twist.the result is four stripped back tracks with a low slung, smoky atmosphere, packed pull of acoustic sounds and live instrumentation. those who remember joss moogs early outings on robsoul will also find parallels here around7s music career began as a bassist and trumpet player in a jazz/funk band. after learning to play keyboard and discovering the akai mpc sampler and software such as cubase, he merged all of his skills together to create his own tracks based around live instrumentation and samples.
