hotflush presents its first ep from braille: otherwise known as praveen sharma, based in brooklyn, new york city and one half of the outstanding duo sepalcure, who have already released two acclaimed eps and a remix package, cementing their signature sound on the label. following his debut single as braille (>the year 3000< on rush hour) earlier this spring, the >a meaning< ep delves further into praveens love for house music, resulting in four bubbling, soulful house tracks infused with the same unique style brought to sepalcures productions, jacking 808 rhythms adorned with tasteful sample manipulations and a warm, emotive foundation.

up next on scubas hotflush recordings is the stunning debut ep >forever for now< from 20 year-old duo shelter point. through the use of field recordings, upright pianos, their own chopped and screwed vocals and a varied palette of synths, the pair have created a lush and elegant four track love letter that is bound to make their contemporaries stand up and take note. >braille< sets the scene, its wistful, haunting vocals delicately slinking along to emotive and complex analogue synths, only slightly changing course on the vibrating and discordant 80s inspired >hold on me<. on the flip is the title track, a compelling and experimental piano ballad, rich with vinyl crackle and a bittersweet lyrical flow (forever burned your picture in my mind) followed by the pop-inspired >sleep easy<, a sweetly composed bedroom soul production kitted out with filtered synths and dubbed out atmospherics. a unique and memorable debut from a very bright new talent, shelter point is here to stay.

in the context of shigetos debut lp lineage, >huron river drive< functions as a respite of sorts, a brief stop on the roadside of a very personal into the past. but as this single release proves, it also stands alone as a pleasantly understated piece of electronic beauty. the track swells slowly from the simple chord sequence of the intro into a lushly textured slice of late-night atmospherics – with more than a hint of jazz to be found in the brushed percussion and quietly tinkling electronic piano – and then receding back into the same sequence as the track draws to a close.

jon dasilva is one of the original hacienda (the manchester club) djs and was behind the decks when house exploded in the uk during the summer of love in 1988 as well as being a tour dj for new order and the haciendas usa tour in 1990. since then he has been credited for mentoring djs such as sasha and been an inspiration to laurent garnier a.o. he has also got a string of releases under his belt for labels such as soma, deconstruction, robs records and better days. check! on his debut release he teams up with vocalist donald waugh and the return to the roots of house music with >love is all we need<. together they have created a house classic that never was, reminiscent of an essential dj international release or alike. comes as full vocal and dubbed out bootleg mix. on the flip we find brailles on remix duties. fresh from his massive >the year 3000< on our direct current series, braille pushes >love is all we need< into the next century. classic feel good stuff. this is how we like our vocal house!

paul rose, aka scuba, the mastermind behind the incredibly well curated hotflush label, has been enlisted to create his own dj-kicks mix. featuring a healthy helping of exclusives from his camp including new music from addison groove & boddika, the mix treads the line between the uk bass music scene in which scuba came up, and the techno sounds dominant in his current home of berlin, creating a new sound in the process.
