kantamoinen is perhaps the most intimately beautiful yet little known lp in mika vainio s Ø canon, bridging the gap between his classic ‘90s minimal techno productions - compiled in the vital metri and olento collections - and the project’s subsequent turn to more ambient, kosmic and dub wise dimensions in the coolly brilliant oleva and konstellaatio albums.

we re humbled to offer a first ever vinyl edition of spellwauerynsherde, arguably one of the 21st century’s most enigmatic and haunting albums, presaging contemporary obsessions with processed vocals in a deeply uncanny manner, enduring to resonate with up-to-the-moment music from kara-lis coverdale to visionist or john t. gast as much as the record s distant roots in the seminal works of 12th century german mystic and composer hildegard von bingen, and the writings of john milton, among others. it s quite honestly one of the most beautiful albums we’ve come across since we opened our doors back in 1998.

a sublime and quietly hypnotic work belied by steadfast conceptual rigour, grafts is the most ambitious and involving work yet from kara-lis coverdale, her first since 2015.
in three parts of cascading yet plaintive multi-instrumental gestures, grafts expands on the processing and self-temperement techniques explored on 2014’s a 480 into a more encompassing palette. uncompromisingly distinct while redolent of modal minimalism, 70s, new age, and folk music, grafts effectively blurs distinctions between traditional composition and more open, overlapping genres that hover in the half-light between acoustic and electronic refinement.

next in our 12 x 12 series is this total fxcking peach of a collaboration made in 2002 by three peers with a mutual passion for the deepest, original nyc garage and house grooves. it’s the first time that longtime friends sprinkles and snd have used their collective handle you speak what i feel since an appearance on a comatonse 10th anniversary compilation back in 2003, and finds the trio at their deadliest, producing a deep-as-anything, peak-time doozy riding a strolling bassline, pointillist claps and effervescent chords for 10 minutes of swingers’ bliss.

exceptional, 15 minute long dancer from beatrice dillon, blessing the 12 x 12 series with a concatenated ‘nuum sidewinder can i change my mind?, where the london-based artist nimbly finds the square roots of jungle, techno, noise and minimalist dance music firmly anchored in steppers’ dub and west african percussive tradition. if you’ve ever been snagged by sotofett, dj krust or shackleton’s devilish dubs, this one’s for you!

sterns edits returns after their well received and recently repressed amadou balake excursions, this time with ben gomori turning his hand to guinea for a third instalment in the series of re-works from the sterns music catalogue of african gems. balla et ses balladins were one of guinea s national orchestras formed as a result of the newly elected president, sekou toures authenticite policy of the early 1960s, which sought to promote guinea s cultural identity following independence from france in 1958. gomori takes the scalpel to two cuts recorded during their years on the state-run syliphone label, making good use of bandleader balla s lively trumpet playing. the gently haunting nyo is taken on a stomping slo-mo chug with a head-nodding bassline and stuttering fx creating a shimmering effect on the tropical guitars, while the rousing horns of wilikabo are laid over with rasping synth bass for a punchy juxtaposition. sterns edits is an official collaboration between african music stalwarts sterns music and london s ben gomori.

in keb darges own words: i ve done many a compilation in my day, mostly based around the tunes i played at my long running deep funk nights in madame jo jos. that night is no longer on the go, possibly due to a growing lack of interest on my part, (sorry). in the last few years the lost & found: nights at the club have been my real passion, and indeed little ediths and andy smiths passion too. what a marvelous era this is for good music. we may still have pure stuff like dub step: pulling in large numbers of sheep, but an equal number of youngsters are being attracted to retro, or at least retro sounding music. people tell me it is because the youth are fed up with computerized music, or men with drug problems angrily shouting at them over a dull repetitive beat, but i know lots of teenagers who have bypassed this muck all together. must be the internet that is helping kill off the demand for empty music. you no longer need to go to a retro club night, or indeed search out rare records to be exposed to good music, the internet is full of the stuff. my fifteen year old daughter is a marc bolan fan who while researching the poor fellows influences discovered chuck berry, sun records, etc, etc. i dont really know or understand why so many are at last getting into the good stuff, but they are, and it is wonderful for the likes of me.

currently causing quite a stir on the underground, the jerome hill remix of marshall jeffersons s trax classic lost in the groove is a complete re-interpretation, solid jacking (hard) house music using the original vocal that s cut loud onto the vinyl and worms inside your head and has been doing serious damage in the clubs and festivals last year. now with all licensing and red tape cleared away, it s set for release. dancer boom boom is actually a collaboration between acid legend adonis and sidney winters, with a mix down by house legend frankie knuckles. this sat on the b side of am a dog on trax records and is rare & obscure to say the least, but once the needle touches the groove you know it s a killer. massive kick drums and mysterious organ scales, this one is a mad mad tune ! produced in 1987 (and sounding like nothing else from that year) it s been given a very slight and very respectful re-arrangement by jerome hill, remastered and cut super loud. strictly limited and if the previous titles on the label are anything to go by, this one will sell out equally quick.
