2023 repress incoming! for the second effort on his very own oblique imprint, ben buitendijk returns to the sound he’s only showcased through his well received promised land (mosaic) and a recent remix through subwax. this more dubby approach is the general thread in the sophomore oblique release called “past and present ep”. generally, this release is threading into deeper territories than it’s predecessor but is therefor revealing different sides of the label owner’s taste that are maybe being underexposed thus far.

limited repress! for the third mouche release dutch artist ivano tetelepta has invited some of his closest friends to create not less than four fantastic dub infected and hypnotic grooves. his ep also marks the third edition of the so called -ivano tetelepta & friends--series. it all started with a record on highly acclaimed label fear of flying a few years ago and continued on rue de plaisance in 2016. now ivano brings out the third part on mouche. on the record he collaborates with the likes of ben buitendijk, tom liem, jocelyn abell and steven siwalette.

with the debut release on his own label ben balance invites you on his journey through his musical treasury. new cuts, virtuous melodies and this special grooves, we just even know from his ho do ri co-work, providing constantly good vibes.

born in shreveport, louisiana, reuben bell began singing in local clubs. he first recorded for the local murco label in 1967 before moving to the silver fox and house of orange labels. in 1975 he released his first 45rpm single for alarm records (-superjock- b/w -i still have to say goodbye-) which was produced by wardell quezergue. neither side made any noise back then but 24 years later -superjock- was included in dj shadow & cut chemist s brainfreeze mix. since then it has become a classic and it has been played constantly by hip hop and funk djs all around the world. it has appeared on a handful of (mainly bootleg) compilations over the years so we are proud to present the long-overdue, fully licensed re-issue on its original format. you may check out tramp s -countdown to... soul- (tr-9067) compilation which contains -superjock- as well as some other fine rare grooves.

ltd 2017 repress ... after a 10 year hiatus, steve o sullivans mosaic label returns under a new guise: mosaic split series. this series will be split between old school artists from mosaic and beyond and artists from the new school. this first release sees mosaic legend jorge zamacona don his urban sombrero for the latest installment in his mosaic efforts series. a deep, trippy, dirty house workout in jorges unique style. in keeping with the whole ethos of this project we have newcomer ben buitendijks offering , > promised land<, on the flip. an ultra-deep dub house/techno track that echoes the mosaic sound of old with a modern twist. melodic and atmospheric, this one deserves to be played from beginning to end.

ben bix is a multi-instrumentalist and producer renowned for his curiously charismatic work with the band meltybrains? feather is a familiar vocal presence from loah, whose voice ranges from a shy whispers to jazzy soul.

every tenth release for boe recordings represents a significant achievement for the vinyl-focused record label and the numerical milestone is celebrated with a special release. the thirtieth instalment, boe xxx is a true family affair with four recognisable boe artists and two new members added in.

coordinated ep presents two tracks relating to two different spots, so two different atmospheres. whereas 51°54 01.6-n 4°28-05.0-e corresponds with the maastunel in rotterdam that connects the banks of the nieuwe maas, 51°54 33.0-n 4°29-13.7-e matches the erasmusbrug (erasmus bridge), a combinedcable-stayed and bascule bridge in the center of rotterdam connecting the north and the south parts of the city. whereas the a-side presents a techno and trippy side, the b-side reveals a more atmospheric and percussive one. in summary, both tracks are quite linear, a linearity that hypnotises and sucks the listener up till bringing him in a trance that makes him feeling in another dimension.

with 8 sell out releases under the contrast wax belt so far, the boutique label invites, ben boe -boe recordings/for those that knoe- label head to the family & he joins the likes of blm, ethyl & flori, gauss & laak, with a killer 3 track ep, hand-stamped & hand numbered in true contrast wax style. the lead of the 3 cuts, steel city fly by is built around a lo slung bassline & subtle atmospheric pads that swell & drift in and out throughout, the b-side: what starts off with soft subtle pads & skipping hats soon rises into a bubbling acid line to compliment the latter in hope for enceladus that leave s the final cut of the ep byzantine times a laidback, groover, layered with delayed snares & synth lines make this emotive piece the perfect end to a solid 3 tracker.

opener equilibrium two from buitendijk is a perfectly streamlined and serene bit of spaced out, hypnotic techno. gentle synth pulses roam about the airwaves, left and right, up and down, as ethereal pads glow behind. it s heady dancing music, whilst liem s contact is also perfectly aimed at both head and heel. it is full of lick synth pulses that bubble and boil as watery droplets and ticking hits also colour the most subliminal groove. closer this is all you need is a more textured, frazzled cut with frosty lines and rickety pads working you into a trance. rich drums and clever bass filtration add dynamics and tension and so like everything else here the end result is hugely captivating.

a long time coming, ben boe drops his very first solo ep on the label he conceived over 8 years ago. narrtives of deep space travel and journeys into the abyss permeate the release from start to finish.

while their sporadic appearance remains a frustration, it s hard to find fault with boe recordings halal prepared series of eps. this third installment of the series, which lands 12 months after it s predecessor, contains another quarter of high quality deep house jams. the real highlights - to our ears, at least - are the two tracks that doff a cap to classic detroit techno, whilst keeping their feet firmly rooted in deep house. both -star struck- by chicago deep and havantepe s -plane waves- capture the retro-futurist spirit and stargazing electronics associated with the motor city perfectly. elsewhere, keep an eye out for taelue s -desolate dreams-, which offers a bittersweet trip into ultra-deep house territory.
