support from andre rozzo, alex jones, so inagawa, jamie jones, matthew styles-harris, laurent garnier, steve lawler, nic fanciulli. luna records is a new uk based label from respected club promoter/ dj/ producer paul bowen, the man behind middlesbroughs infamous >riff raff< events. the label is set to release music from some pretty well established artists with an emphasis on stripped back chunky house music and in that vein the debut single sees the much hailed german producer chris lattner step up get the imprint firing in the right direction. lattner has been djing for the best part of two decades, initially gracing the decks at hannover techno parties before word of his talent spread, seeing him strike out to play across germany. he has hosted a radioshow for australias pulse radio, worked as a booking agent for lessizmore and has had releases on labels such as einmaleins musik and wba. his passion for electronic music has shone through in everything he has done and led him to produce some great records, to which can now be added the luna debut >memory<. this single release kicks off with lattners original of >memory<, a solid tech driven slice of house with heavily effected vocal samples and a simple floor shaking groove. this is understated underground house music at its best, deep chunky and highly effective. first of the two remixes comes from ex-peace division man justin drake, who builds on the vibe of the original, thickening out the drums and layering some heavy filters over the sythn stabs to great effect. a straightforward and highly effective arrangement provides everything that is needed in this excellent reworking. finally we have a remix from bearweasel, who have been providing choice cuts in house music over the last year via labels such as tsuba, supernature, bloop and murmur. for their >lazy dub< they take things back to basics and turn in a slab of deep and dubby house with an emphasis on razor sharp percussion and earth moving bass. this is a superb debut from a label that is sure to become a major fixture in 2010.

bearweasel are london-based duo dean muhsin and louisa page, a pair who in less than a year have a string of singles and remixes for some of the best labels around including 8-bit, tsuba, supernature, perc trax and murmur. the >sorry for nothing ep< is build around two original recordings, >risk< and >many more< and also features a remix from moon harbours dan drastic. first out of the gate is the original of >risk<, a track built around a shuffling percussion led groove. the spacious arrangement, intense stabs and low-key bassline lend a depth and quality to this cut that make it truly sublime. simple, understated yet devastatingly effective. next up, dan drastic reworks >risk<, turning in a remix that stays true to the original whilst imprinting things with his own sound. the drums are toughened up and the vibe is a little more dubbed out, providing an alternative that sits perfectly alongside bearweasels primary production

impressive debut ep from new duo bearweasel are a new production duo, consisting of dean muhsin and louisa page. with a remix already out on perc trax they debut with this superb ep for audioflys new label. opening track >monkier< is brilliant. combining a touch of latin percussion with swollen basslines and brilliant horn stabs scattered througout its one of my favourite tracks of recent months. second track >drummer< is just as good – its wonky techhouse with a funky bassline and small-but-effective breakdown. remix of >monkier< comes from my favourite hamburg-based croatian, solomun. his version takes it deeper, with a lazier attitude but a warm vibe. a quality debut and a duo to watch out for in 2008.

santorini, real name andrea santoro, has delivered material to the likes of upon you, district raw and little helpers in recent years and has won over many djs and floors with his intricately rhythmic house grooves. after remixing paul bowen for lr005, the 26 year old italian was invited to contribute his own single and the >supersoul ep<, comprising two original cuts and a lazy dub from bearweasel, is the result.

metroline limited catches sonotheque pimping it. beautiful, rich synths and brass move right through this ep, bubbling through nice solid house grooves and soulful vocal cuts. >sugarblues< is the kind of house cut that technoheads go nuts for, with the loose, fluid structure of carl craig, the bump and grind of dj sneak and a smooth-as-a-babys-bottom sax line that runs the length of the track.

with five beat pharmacy albums and almost a dozen vinyl releases on francois ks deep space imprint, this dubby and eclectic project of brendon moeller needs no introduction.
chugging along at 120bpm, underpinned by a thick sub-dub bassline and a modulating maurizio-style synth cord arpeggio, pump is a hypnotic slap of deep smoky house with some memorable hooks to boot. swirling rhodes keyboards and a slick piano riff serve as a lovely counterpoint to the swinging funk of the hi-hat groove. forever morphing and evolving, the stready and unrelenting groove are guaranteed to keep heads bobbing and toes tapping!
the first remix here is by echospace head honcho, stephen hitchell under his intrusion guise. stripping away and re-contextualizing the key elements in the track, hitchell crafts a warehouse-style dj-tool that subtlely weaves its way into ones subconscious via a delightful psychedelic keyboard hook.
londons bearweasel takes a similar approach, except with a much more pronounced beat track superbly trippy atmosphere. a top notch dj tool thats likely to be spun worldwide.
all round a quality release with enough sensibility and character to be played for years to come.
