with this debut ep, the ozzie producer succeeds in rounding up disparate & dubious elements together in a serious way without departing from a non-serious attitude - the record even rounds off with a very “put your hands in the air” moment with space gekko’s ravey sirens. “music to party on the river yarra to” (just google it).

alek lees second 12inch on antinote starts with an uptempo opening to a rather downtempo record. playing with some of the genre (namely, deep house) codes like the use of a politically-aware speech or vibes, alek lee cant resist to give time his special treatment nonetheless: using some of his dubby tools and bringing in a warm trumpet he takes the song onto a rather windy road. dont fall for it though: time is a red herring

the people at antinote are always excited to introduce new names to its roster and sign libra, its latest addition, makes no exception to the rule. released under the moniker sign libra, closer to the equator is the work of latvian artist and composer agata melnikova. composed for a contemporary ballet at latvian national opera in riga, the music on this record strongly relies on melnikovas appreciation of bbc-produced nature documentaries. projecting the life of each creature that inhabits the british tv-program into her very personal and highly synthetized world, sign libra lends these microscopic beings her own voice. each song works like a musical tableau in which the main protagonists plants and animals come on stage to play their part in a ballet carefully choreographed by the latvian artist.

its already been two years since leonardo martellis debut with the four-tracker menti singole. he has since been following the direction he took with this first release, at a rather slow path, releasing a lone and haunted mini-album, previsto, in the meantime. with menti singole vol.2, martelli establishes a picture of his music, an update of his aspirations in the feminine.

distant images is d.k.s fourth release on antinote and we can say quite safely that dang khoa chau fueled a few identifiable obsessions over the years for those familiar with his work, it probably wont feel like uncharted territory when they’ll hear a somehow well-known guitar in the background of the title-track.

antinote squeeze out the mind lotion: eight sun-drenched excursions, tip!! mind lotion crafts a very modern guide to sun-drenched soundscapes in the form of altitude attitudes, a musical travel-log, consisting of eight pieces, written over two years, which are recollections of experiences, moments in time from trips – either real or romanticized – to exotic destinations.

electro kicks, raw textures, ominous choirs: l immaginario, previstos opening track, ties a bound between martellis two releases on antinote, giving us one last glimpse at the uninhabited post-apocalyptic landscapes drawn in menti singole. however, this time leonardo martelli explores a more urban universe, as the use of rap samples on negli abissi and lo schema suggests. martelli exploits their aggressiveness in a way that somehow reminds us of minimalist rap tapes from memphis. the third tracks title makes it even clearer: called leggende metropolitane, the song is a trip into the darkest blind alleys of the city, an invitation to wander among human wastes, driven by its light kick.

the three tracks travel in many different directions. speaking directly to all the dreamers, the result is a surprising cross-over in which synthesized european music gets injected by imaginary tropical visions. the record is opening with the inner mind percussive ambient « chekema », an animistic incantation that will please all those who see parties as modern ritual gatherings. the jazzy wave of « get enough » cracks open the b-side. it’s a foggy street jam in which the cold cr-68 rhythm balances perfectly with the warm organ chords of the crumar. closing things off is the spectral reggae song “love so high”, a desperate cry from a polar explorer stranded on an iceberg drifting towards the carribean. heartbreaking.

inoue shirabe is no newcomer for those who have been following antinotes releases last year. with function spring / gravitation of acidtree, his third release on the parisian imprint, the okayamas producer delivers what may be his two most sophisticated tracks so far. with function spring, inoue shirabe continues to investigate the subtle equilibrium between opposite feelings of sadness and joy that he successfully reached on down into the black church, on his previous 12inch. this time, the japanese producer uses celestial elements (bells, an organ in the distance that we can hear punctually) to counterbalance the roughness of the rhythmical section, in order to plunge the listener into a profound state of meditation.

after releasing a beautiful debut 12inch last year on antinote, the man behind the visual identity of the parisian imprint makes an impressive come-back on the labels catalogue with life goes on if you are lucky. while listening to it for the first time, we can already imagine the long nightly conversations held between nico motte and his machines that gave birth to this album – the man trying to learn from the machines their most secret sounds. tip!

very strong one again from this very on point label. on this brilliant ep twin peaks tinged electronics cross with fuzzed out and tripping house, very appealing 12inch that ticks a lot of boxes down here at rh. mr martelli is in a very good zone. tip!

we dont know much about domenique dumont, nor do the guys at antinote. in fact, they dont seem to care: they just came across the artists music and decided to release it. its perfectly inspired dubby pop brightness, a rare thing! tip!

the mighty geena is back on antinote with a new ep filled with deepest psychedelic goodness and spaced surprises. comes housed in a glorious printed sleeve! tip! side a starts with -tone loc- a heavy geenafied future classic, complete with signature celestial pan pipes and a deeper than deep bassline, together building in intensity with muted distant vocals adding to the sweet heady confusion. the next track -minus jam- is on a similar path of ecstatic disorientation, with spinning delayed glass toms supervised by the darkest dictatorial bass line confirming geena is a master of light and dark. side 2 continues with -box of exotica- where we are sent to a dreamy post blade runner musical world of traditional and futuristic collision augmented with beautiful and equally dark japanese stick music vocals. the last track -green resident- also walks the cosmic path found throughout this gorgeous ep, softer at first than the others, but the silky darkness soon seeps in bringing cosmic order to geenaland.

dk is back on antinote with a second record that exudes refinement and class a la dk, meaning: perfect pastel pads with sophisticated cowbells, tasteful toms, riviera playboy boogie bass lines and risqué drums.
