peruvian artist ale hop is back on bruh records with her new album “apophenia”.

various artists including buttechno, broshuda, garrett david, steven warwick and more... each track was composed with the theme of apophenia in mind (the tendency to perceive connections and meaning between unrelated things), keeping a foot between club and experimental material. this record is a complement to a contemporary exhibition in berlin and a 122 pages book.

its always been tricky predicting what firecracker recordings will release next, though few would have expected an ep of freestyle, darkside drum machine jazz and percussive drone from berceuse heroique, nous and bedouin regular healing force project. sounding like early 23 skidoo replayed on drum machines and samplers, theres much to admire about the hectic rhythms, foreboding textures and dusty samples at the heart of gravitational lensing. its unclassifiable and completely out there, paranoid, dense and intense, with the fizzing drums, mangled horns and metallic percussion hits of random walks just edging out the experimental jungle-jazz madness of apophenia in the top tracks stakes.

after releases for discos capablanca and moon glyth, minneapolis collective food pyramid align with especial for a remix ep based around oh mercy, a track from their 2012 album mango sunrise. apparently a long term favourite of label boss stuart leath, the warped breakbeat jam fusion of the original is ripe for reinvention and gets the remix treatment from especial in house team apophenia, inhalt and jamie paton. its the full on italo pumper remix from san francisco s inhalt that really impresses too, with especial right to compare it to timmy regisford classic remix of >rules to survive< by noi

the music in this album is derived from works originally commissioned for the five hour music theatre work alif, as premiered at berlins maerzmusik festival of 2016.
