oladele franck komolou stammt aus den voodoo-wäldern von benin und gründete 2013 in helsinki die band frankosun and the family. seitdem hat die band mit ihrer erstaunlichen musik, shows und energie die herzen der menschen erobert. stark beeinflusst von den rhythmen und der geschichte der nago.

das wort -nago- leitet sich vom wort -anago- ab, ein begriff, mit dem fon-sprechende menschen nago-yoruba-sprechende menschen in benin beschreiben. die nago-yoruba-gemeinschaft zeichnet sich durch den maskentanz guèlèdè aus - einen besonderen tanz, der reich an liedern, musik, epischen und lyrischen gedichten im rhythmus und klängen von tam-tam ist.

die band kombiniert hervorragend beninischen und nigerianischen afrobeat im stil der 70er und 80er jahre mit afrofunk und afrorock.

hybris is an american born, czech based electronic musician whos been lighting up the scene with his energetic productions since 2010, appearing on metalheadz for the first and only time just a year later.

the 2nd propaganda album, originally released in 1985, now back on 180 gram vinyl with extensive 6 page 12 inch booklet included.

a complex web – the story of dive position and the shining path ... began in 1982 when peter miller (aka dr. william s ray – vocals, tapes, guitar) met andrew millar (aka maurice spectograph the nose-y pieman – program execution) in gold coast, australia. while sharing a similar taste in music, they decided to form a band, so dive position was born. equipped with a korg synthesiser and tascam 4-track recorder, they -wanted to have the sound of kraftwerk, the groove of can, and the menace of throbbing gristle-, ending up with -a cross of suicide and the residents-, as peter recalls. in a local record shop they met stig andre leonardson (aka vincent blackshadow), who joined the duo on percussion and drum machine programming. their motto was -now is then-. dive position then became the fatal charm around 1984, and the fatal charm became the shining path who eventually released their only album -basic training manual- in an edition of only 250 copies, most probably in 1986. the band then started to drift apart, and shortly after andrew sadly passed away – this compilation -now is then- comprised of previously unreleased dive position and the shining path material is dedicated to his memory.

after the success of last years debut ep onemind are back with more music on metalheadz, and coming along for the ride are a couple of friends in total science and throwing snow as they follow in the footsteps of ulterior motive and om unit (who both featured on ep1). ep2 is a prelude to onemind’s forthcoming album and is a sure sign of what to expect as the duo showcase an abundance of talent, from the heavy and well refined sounds of late addition to the spine-tingling pressure of early daze, they really do have it all covered.

label regulars ulterior motive present two finely cut pieces of drum and bass, both of which are full of the usual hypnotic funk and production prowess that the duo are now synonymous with. ‘step change’ is the monster of the two, with a twisted reese running throughout combined with heavy hitting, tightly tuned drums - a signature ulterior motive creation. it’s the funk that bursts to the forefront on ‘get close’, sitting over an eerie foundation and completing a stellar double pack for their first original tracks on metalheadz in almost 2 years.

now an essential part of the metalheadz family, artificial intelligence are back with the reprisal ep.their 2015 album on the label showed exactly what the duo are all about - blissful liquid and chunky basslines - something that was further showcased in last years shrine ep. the reprisal ep is more of the same but perhaps slightly refined, with reprisal and intimacy leading the way on the dreamy and sometimes euphoric side of things, whilst the darker sounds of sicario and force of habit transform the release into an extremely well rounded project

kid drama’s debut metalheadz release is one that is set to shake up this 4-year-old alias as he heads in a direction that’s slightly more focussed on the dancefloor, whilst managing to subtly retain some of the elements that have seen him become so loved in the deeper and more experimental side of drum and bass. the ‘trife ep’ proves how much of a talent kid drama is, from the savage bassline in ‘brutal d’ to the late 90s techstep vibes of ‘articulation’ all the way to ‘payback’, which is a track that could have easily come out under his and boddika’s instra:mental moniker. this is an extremely well-rounded project and one we’re delighted to be releasing on metalheadz.

nice price deal !!! jack of all trades musician jay shah b from normandy started his career as bassist in rock bands during the 90s. his rock culture was spiced up by hip hop and breakbeat at the beginning of the new millennium. as a fine producer he started to record bands and spent his time torturing sound, sampling stuff and scratching vinyl records. after a lot of time in the studio, in 2006 he released a abstract hip hop album recorded with his mate goliath, and then made a deal with kif records (birdy nam nam, jazz liberatorz, pepe bradock) under the name buzz burglarz. after two years in brussels, he is now back in paris with a pure electro ep >discopunk is dead<. meanwhile he is setting dance floors on fire all around the world with ecstatic solo dj sets, that could well make juan mclean, sebastian and others go green…
