the 12th installment in the falling ethics series is an adventurous piece of work. tensal and p.e.a.r.l. team up on this split ep to showcase their production styles which are mainly built around crafty drum loops and buoyant synth experiments.
tensal takes care of the a-side where he takes care of one flaming techno cut for the dancefloor which is followed up by two adventurous pieces of electronica.
p.e.a.r.l. also took care of three cuts on the b-side. the opening track “joy of rapture” is a straight forward demonstration of machine heavy techno. “fall before you” is a deep and soul wrenching cut that showcases p.e.a.r.l.’s more delicate side. “red flame” is a piece of horror reminiscent ambient.

the reveries begin with a simple electrical hum – a starting signal for the appearance of a vibrant array of sound, shifting before us in seemingly random motion. before we know it, all those pulsating melodies, razor-cut hifi-house beats and drunken robot jazz ensembles start forming into patterns, secretly & perfectly designed by one art alfie. a long time operator in stockholm’s small but insistent underground music scene, oscar wedrén broke through internationally in 2012 with the karlovak project, founded with on-off studio and dj partner rudolf nordström, a.k.a. mr. tophat. the duo’s inexplicably fresh takes on classic dance music tropes is as much a result of a brilliantly odd pairing of personalities as of a defined concept and a precise method in searching for the perfect house groove. while writing reveries of, released early spring 2017 through studio barnhus, art alfie freed himself of all conceptual footholds, delving instead deep into his archives of old and new memories and feels, working with improptu field recordings and emotionally-guided sampling processes. he came back with an intricate and personal debut album and he didn’t lose his groove on the way.

it is a big temptation - whilst striving to place oneself on the map - to favour and repeat established structures and norms in order to gain fortune, fame and power. to cripple a work of art under pressure of commercial success and to trade the uniqueness of a creative spark for an egoistic idea means using a calculating mind to overrule art and emotions. but this pulse of an artist is not his mind but his heart with which he exposes his energy and vibration through frequencies. for this reason there is only one way which retains the creation in its innocent spontaneous form in order to stay true to its inspirational core. the path of resistance! in the follow up to his doornroosje ep released back in october last year - aus continue on form in 2017 and present another solo ep from label mainstay marquis hawkes. having been brought into the fold on 2015, the berlin based artist has consistently utilised aus to outlet his more soulful and stripped productions. his previous work has comprised fun, sample-heavy tracks designed with nothing but the dance floor in mind and his latest 12inch sweet temptation expands on this bringing melody, rhythm and chords to the foreground. jubilant, powerful vocal lines and stony drums are the core ingredients and their melding results in a collection of 4 tracks of varying moods and intensities. while ‘burning light’ and ‘sweet temptation’ pack a certain big-room punch, eivissa and zapper bluesky carry depth and soul in a manner that recalls a classic and cherished hawkes sound. now 5 releases deep with aus music - marquis hawkes continue to demonstrate why he is a regular and esteemed member of the roster.

after a first collaboration focusing on the city of angels, la legend john tejada and acid innovator tin man (johannes auvinen), this time brooding on the latters home city, and formers birthplace, vienna. the austrian capital is known as the city of music and the city of dreams, two broadly aligning concepts that go far in describing this beguiling 12-inch. the four songs were mixed down live to 2 tracks, created in the real world without a daw, or multi tracking, which has really captured the spirit of performance and improvisation. succeeding railjet, a tense drum workout, comes bim, referring to the colorful trams that run through vienna. here, auvinen sculpts his 303 into near-pizzicato form. the acid box is accompanied by stately pads making for one of the duo’s most memorable tracks yet. the next cut, danube nights, references the mighty, ancient river, the flow motion mirrored by a couple of widescreen acid lines. a pensive lead and some melancholy chords emerge, but the drums roll right along like the water- tough enough for a heaving floor with a hint of fragility for the headphones. the record concludes with the acidic prater allee, named after idyllic, sprawling park on the banks of the danube. the duos love letter to vienna is well-suited for travel, for the dance and for dreaming.

after gracing holger with one of his signature remixes about two years ago (holger 6: the moonland remixes), barnt now returns with two of his own works, the first ones since his widely acclaimed debut lp of 2014. side a features an etheral composition in five parts - accurately titled a-seite 1-5 - while side b displays barnts idosyn- cratic version of techno at its best: if she says she is a healer, she is a healer. unmistakably the man from magazine, yet in surprising new garments and another perfect match for holger.
