dont be afraid present spargel trax, a two part series of vinyl-only, coloured, hand-stamped 12 inches designed to celebrate the dual themes of great seasonal music and great seasonal spargel. contributing tracks across the two 12 inches are some of our favourite artists currently making house music. from established artists like disco nihilist, andy blake, sound species and james duncan to up and coming artists like david joseph from cologne, hodge from bristol, untitled-w from st. petersburg, for whom this is the first outing on wax, and scott fraser from glasgow. no clues though as to which is which, you will have to just listen to the tracks and hear for yourself! proof that 2012 is a great time for music, a great time for wax and a great time for spargel.

what we have here is an album which is, if i may say, relatively positive and generally good for home listening. this album was recorded in about 10 weeks in a living room (the sofa being my bed), with restless swollen eyes at dusk and a love/hate relation with my machines, microphone and electric guitar.3 machines gave up on me during the making of this lp.i hope you will like it. tolga.

laurine frosts long overdue second ep for thema is upon us in all its dark, oblique splendor. 2009s thematique showed the mysterious hungarian producers deft sound design and uncanny programming married with a wide breadth of musical tastes and unpredictable choices of composition. it seems that these attribute have only sharpened and are now driving a much more groove-focused approach. so enjoy this, yet another left turn from thema. we are proud to bring you the best from those artists working beyond the well-worn paths of electronic dance music and we are glad laurine could come back to guide us just a little farther off that path.

the prism is an aluminum cube, small enough to fit in your palm. it was designed by nicolas jaar as a new medium for releasing music. the first release - csa001 - features twelve (mostly) unreleased songs from jaar and other clown & sunset collaborators. the prism is a piece of art in and of itself, its contents beg to be shared. twin headphone outlets encourage connections to the object and between the two listeners. the prism tries to restore physicality to the listening experience. the medium and the method are as important as the music itself. the prism makes you consider how the music is being heard, the way the object feels in your hands, and its potential to foster intimacy between listeners. when the prism is unplugged, a beam of light passes through the empty center, revealing a void. someone is missing.
keeping up their ethos of dancefloor >edits with the love left in< hmd bounce back on a1 with monster from their 3rd compilation. never before released as a 12 inch and much in demand from djs who have heard it in hmd sets, its a whole horse meat disco original track laid out underneath the original vocal acapella. playable peak time or at the end of the night its as deep as disco gets! on b1 a majestic and imperial take on a classic one more time the hmders push the way too short original track and lengthen it into a luscious, euphoric anthem. hmd take all responsibility for end of the night spontaneous dancefloor hug-ins. on b2 the boys have taken the squelchy synths of a real underground track and turned up the intensity that they felt seem to disapated in the original. keeping the vocals pretty much as they are including all the whoops and yelps that make the track so exciting hmd have stayed true to the original but have just given it the horse meat touch. a bit of added percusion and a whole lotta love.

perception productions, a new york based label that ran from the late 60s through until 1974, was a strangely eclectic affair. its roster stretched from a radical afro-american poet through to the pop band king harvest whose hit dancing in the moonlight became a massive hit for the uk band toploader a couple of decades later. the inbetween points covered jazz, funk, vocal harmony soul and proto-disco.
number eleven on uncanny valley focuses on the soundscapes of cvbox who debuted on the fourth compilation, uncanny valley 4, in 2011. releasing his first solo record, hes finally able to express his very specific idea of sound somewhere in between meditative ambient and compelling techno on the analog amputations ep. past the eclipse is shaped by echoing choirs at first and mutates then into a serious detroit funk killer for self forgotten techno dancefloors. counterflow starts to roll with menacing drones but quickly surprises with its optimistic atmosphere and an irresistibly catchy synth flute. the flipside starts off forcefully with the oldschool techno stomper droid swift 836. after that orience floats in a sea of pads without losing the funk of the cvboxes. the cover artwork was created by visual artist paul barsch from dresden.

it is with great honour that in paradisum welcome sometime border community and traum schallplatten artist ricardo tobar into the label for the fourth chapter in our fledgling story. the esoteric/carnaval ep reveals four tracks that further showcase the chilean producers unerring grasp for electronic music that combines moments of introspection with the unshakeable urge to lose yourself in the moment.
tobar is extending this plunge towards all new uncompromising techno territory from various, equally engrossing angles. pitch the rough hewn mutant beat dance of >esoteric< next to fizzing, acid tainted textures of >recuerdos< or the grinding journey through dantes inferno that is >carnaval< and its easy to see why tobar has been accommodated into the in paradisum fold.

for some time now the bar25 label has wanted to put out a release with all of our swiss musician friends the many folks who came to the swiss weekends at the bar and generally made a habit of visiting us in berlin. the bar always had a deep swiss connection, manifested not least in the legendary swiss cabin, home away from home to larger groups of visiting friends and monday evening after-hour hotspot. alpenglühen feines aus der schweiz (alp glow swiss bliss) is a swanky double vinyl of high-quality production art made in switzerland. on vinyl 1, animal trainer from hive audio share a side with andri, the zurich native. techno gladiator wandler and live artist canson play the other side, while vinyl 2 lets two matadors from the new zurich club friedas büxe don ramon and san marco steer for a while. and the two music geniuses from galoppierende zuversicht are also here, fittingly, using sounds recorded live at friedas büxe for their track. the sampler concludes with the exceptionally talented mastra, who contributed a special song to this swiss musical collage. the digital release also comes with a bonus live track by sublime stage band rizzoknor. even the cover was designed in switzerland, during a bar25 night at the legendary cabaret in zurich. were all excited about this release since its a special one for the 25 label. marked both by good old times and new horizons, this record is a musical compilation representing the very special kind of artist that will always be welcome in wild berlin!
