repress - j dilla is widely regarded as one of the greatest hip-hop producers of all time, having supplied timeless soundbeds for the likes of a tribe called quest, slum village, the pharcyde, busta rhymes, common, de la soul, the roots, d’angelo, erykah babu, madlib, and many more. in 2005, rumors began circulating about an album called “jay love japan”, a j dilla solo project inspired by one of jay dee’s favorite locations to visit on tour. after dilla’s untimely death in early 2006, the album became a lost classic shrouded in mystery, with only unofficial bootlegs and promo versions available. an official cd version was eventually released in 2008, but quickly went out of print. now, the album is finally receiving the official release it always deserved. j dilla’s mother ma dukes and her label vintage vibez music group are proud to present official vinyl and cd versions of “jay love japan”. with six soulful dilla instrumentals and vocal appearances from blu, miguel, j*davey, ta’raach, exile, baatin, and more, this 11-track collection is a perfect snapshot of late-period j dilla brilliance.

following the acclaimed first album of al sunny released in 2017, favorite recordings proudly presents this single remix package of open up your eyes. al sunny is a young composer emerging from the french soul music scene. soon after learning the guitar, he started composing and became involved in numerous projects and collaborations. he quickly discovered deep inside himself the music that he truly loves, inspired by artists such as tim maia, america, al green, and al jarreau. during his studies he met musicians including florian pellissier, and it s then thanks to florian that he met pascal rioux, founder and a&r of favorite recordings. together they produced time to decide, a first album acclaimed by many tastemakers and gaining a solid success in japan. one of the highlights of the lp was the track open up your eyes, which disclosed the premise of al sunny music style, infused with blue-eyed-soul, pop and folk. also tainted with a funky dancefloor color, open up your eyes was a perfect match to build a nice remixes package for djs. on the a side, bruno patchworks hovart delivers again a hot soulful/disco version of the song with his famous touch. as for the b side, favorite recordings asked the canadian producer jex opolis (good timin records), with a disco style slightly more oriented in electronic and house vibes.

bruno “patchworks” hovart is definitely one of the top producers of today’s groove music scene. after playing as a bassist and guitarist for various bands, he started producing in the mid-nineties and has kept on mixing today’s technologies with the raw spirits of house, electronic, disco, funk, soul, reggae & jazz music’s golden years since then. following the trail of success left by his various projects as patchworks, and under many aliases, he’s proved his musical ubiquity and unexpectedly stroke in various genres. for this new ep, he’s back under the edr records’ umbrella, following up to his acclaimed eps called give my love (edr019) and dedications (edr021), and meanwhile pursuing a comeback to his early love for house music. many house music diggers would indeed remember that before favorite recordings was launched in 2006, patchworks and pascal rioux produced many deep-house titles on the rotax disques imprint. besides since the late 90s, patchworks has also collaborated with labels such as q-tape, or still music, delivering many clubbing hits such as “million toes”, “sugar”, or “minautor” to name just a few. on this 4 tracks ep, he again delivers 4 dancefloor killers, ready to convince any listener from old-school “footstomping” aficionados, to detroit house heads. for the occasion he also invited his long time mate eric duperray aka mr day, who brings his soulful vibes to the mix.

this record has been in the making for some time. originally, hott 22 created a track called, &#147,i feel love&#148,. bonnie bailey heard the song, loved the track, and wanted to write lyrics to it. bonnie and eric kupper went into the studio with hott 22&#146,s track to record and produce bonnie&#146,s lyrics for it. after we heard bonnie&#146,s performance, we were extremely excited, and asked the legendary eric kupper to create a new remix. shortly after, we asked thomas gold to work his magic on the track and he created some real gems to an already solid package. finally, the alter ego live element had to get in on the project as well, and produced two more floorfillers.
