ffr start well 2013 with a vinyl release which could be qualified as indecent, featuring an original track by phonokemi, remixed by two well respected artists, the italian nico lahs and the incredible german producer tim xavier. a release with multiple facets: deep, tech house, minimal & mental and chicago-bump-styleas we would come to expect from phonokemi, thoughts is a deep tech house track of extremely high quality. with a deep and pumping baseline and well refined vocals, thoughts is dark and groovy on one hand and an invitation to dance on the other, with absolutely no second thoughts.nico lahs s remix is an ultra-personal and mental re-read of the original track: minimal and elegant, cosmic and organic this track is reminiscent of some of ricardo villalobos s reference productions.finally tim xavier takes us straight to the centre of the universe: the dancefloor. his remix is a real dancing machine… pumping basses, efficient snares and sublime vocals that loop the loop and make this ep a killer release.

with labelboss pheeks album >en légère suspension< being loved by many for its eloquent detailing and organic, electronic psychedelia, we are happy to bring you a collection of remixes of select tracks from the album. for the remixing purposes, archipel called two favorites to compile a colourful mix between warm afterhours and peak time music. >aye aya ashawa< gets treated by mathias kaden and molded into an exotic, humid cloud of hypnotic, densely layered quasi-tribal percussion with the original vocal presenting itself in a very visual hypnagogic manner. the excellently driving and hypnotic >orage solaire< gets put through the wringer by tim xavier who highlights the hypnotic nature of the original and darkens the tone a little more into a jittering, pulsing aural storm.

exhumed tapes i is the first in a multi-artist series of cassette releases on the modern cathedrals label. with label art featuring small details of “important graves,” the series will dig into eery, broken beat techno with gritty textures. the first cassette begins in a natural place: with altstadt echo crafting four works presented with an image depicting the grave-side rubble of his often-referenced inspiration albert camus. it will be limited to 50 hand-numbered physical copies. copyright: modern cathedrals 2018 mastered by tim xavier @ manmade mastering, berlin

we have encountered ice dog during one sunny belgrade afternoon while he was chasing what he was calling fish (actually slavic seniors transformed into dolphins and dolphin is not a fish). he might or might not told us the fore-coming story: a man complains of being hungry. all the time. dogs it seems are never hungry. so the man decides to become a dog. to be a dog one must walk on all fours. the hero decides to wear shoes on his hands only to discover that there is no hand left to tie the laces on the fourth shoe. what does a shoe-shod dog tie laces with? its mouth. organ by organ the man becomes a dog. one lace at a time his record transformed us into a new type of misunderstood creatures. most of the tracks are surprisingly fast and playable yet broken while others are groovy however noisy. i am pretty sure you havent heard anything like it before. but what do i know i’m a fish.

night blind is richard fearless second release on drones white label series. the title track coalesced in the early hours of the morning as diffuse, turneresque lights glimmered across the thames and the container was pounded by a storm. unnerving and melancholic yet with a glimmer of light, this is fearless at his best. on the b side is cancan. with xaviers spiritual acid head, kenichi iwasa, on percussion duties, this is one for peak time body shaking. both tracks were recorded and mixed at the metal box by chris blakey and produced by richard fearless. stamped and numbered edition of 300 vinyl

joakim on samurai: this is a very personal record. i tried to channel the emotions and spontaneity i had when i first started making music. its not about nostalgia, its about the freshness and directness call it naivety you lose when you start becoming a professional musician. i moved to new york almost 5 years ago. these past few years have been a weird combination of excitement and quite challenging events. ive learnt what it means to be exiled, in every sense. this album is about that, being far away from home and from yourself and finding your way back. the album is built like an unknown city, you walk through it, making random turns, getting lost, some corners may bring back memories, you’re getting away from something and at the same time youre on a quest. hence the importance of listening to it in its entirety (yes, im a utopian). it will be the only physical release, very limited. no cd edition. producer, d.j., label manager, tireless gem searcher, musician, music lover, its hard to reduce joakim to a single function xavier veilhan, french artist et sculptor tall lanky weird dude who makes great music
