short attention, a new mexican record label, appears for the first time in the vinyl world, with a solid release in charge of chicagodeep co-owner of perpetual rhythms a respected record label from chicago illinois, putting mexico in the radar of underground music.

eshu, the production collective and record label from nijmegen are back with their next offering. their 12th release is a various artists release that features blm, joburg and steven siwalette alongside label members ivano tetelepta and jocelyn abell. it comes on the heels of teteleptas absorbing dub techno album, senang, and is another high class offering. nijmegen based siwalette is first, previously contributed to the label as part of sys. his stragglers is a sparse but atmospheric track with industrial drones and slowly turning drums taking you through a desolate factory late at night. his second offering is alien encounter which is just as it sounds - a spooky, unsettling bit of cinematic sound design with menacing bass and icy pads all growing in loudness until they eventually consume your mind. lastly on the a-side, uk producer and fear of flying label boss blm lays down a skeletal groove thats embellished with beautiful, yawning synths. scattered little details and fx making this a cavernous piece that encourages your mind to wander and get lost. on the flip, jocelyn abell and ivano tetelepta cook up a heavyweight, mid tempo bit of dub techno with sharp hits and rolling kicks lulling you into a trance. last of all, the emerging j?burg picks up the pace with a perfectly chiselled bit of rock solid dub with looping drums and icy hi hats sinking you deep into its midst. this is an excellent ep that packs in a range of fascinating sounds for both the home and the club.

scottish producer & dj graeme clark aka the revenge releases his second album ‘when the thrill comes’ on his own roar groove imprint on 11th may 2018. ‘when the thrill comes’ is a demonstration of a producer achieving a point of maturity in their work, able to exercise a sense of restraint, to allow for their sound to have space. it is also the opportunity for the revenge to explore his own electronic music roots with a deeper pared-back sound more in touch with his earliest production experiences in house and techno.

ron maney aka dj skull presents some new tracks on the second part of his own series called -the dj skull saga-.

persistence is back with the third release, a new split ep with manuel di martino and the italian duo asylum with remixes by johannes volk and jeff rushin. the a side contains the original track of manuel di martino called necessary phase, engaging groove and hypnotic synth are the right adjectives to describe this track. volk,s remix is inspired to the new york techno scene with stomp drum, raw groove and marked synth. side b open with substance by asylum, this track contains dark and closed sounds, a real trip into shadows. jeff rushin revisits this creating a very functional tool, and especially the right mix of dark and dancefloor s sounds.

this paragraph from solaris, the novel written in 1961 by stanislav lem, is the starting point for the concept this 30drop album has been built upon. science fiction masters like lem are one of the greatest influences for the artist, who devised this album after the mental challenges that humans should overcome in a future: encounter with beings from other civilizations: capable of interacting with us in a totally unthinkable way so far.

dark brooding techno from sister label of stay up forever.

aequilon records proudly present it’s superb first release! boyd goosman (who used to be part of the techno outfit noirdegout) was known for his powerfull releases on no fear records, and white noise (dave clake’s imprint) which have been played by some of the most recognised djs of the scene (laurent garnier, fabrice lig, dave clarke ...). he now works on his own, finding his niche in strong but deep and evocative techno. this new material on aequilon show his love for electro, detroit vibes, but also berlin’s modern techno. after spending so many hours in recent years dancing all other europe on the weirdest and wild dancefloors, boyd goosman felt that it was the right moment to express again his unique sonic trademarks. for this first release on aequilon, we asked to berlin’s resident cadency aka héctor oaks (reclaim your city, key vinyl, oaks records ...) to deliver an absolute killer remix of ‘lost control’ and he did it with an ultraphat bassheavy monster!

the first instalment on dutch label talaman. newcomer and label owner sota shows his class by delivering a varied ep containing everything from sturdy house groovers to layered atmospheres. substance , access and quadrant cover the more dance-floor focused part of the ep, but make sure to listen to closer as well, the space-minded track built around dreamy melodies and low-slung percussion.

highly limited 10- dubplates. following on from medium’s hugely successful 6th chapter in our project mohawk series, we waste no time gearing up for number 7, and make no mistake, it’s one of the biggest. for the next instalment, we handed the creative reigns to kaset. already treasured as one of our brightest talents, he showcased his early abilities in the edm.com premiered ‘contour’ from our musical currency volume 3 compilation, but that alone was the briefest insight into what would follow. more a mini album than an ep, kaset presents seven tracks of what we feel is his finest music to date. each track stands up to objective scrutiny in its own right, but together they form a body of work that few can deny is seriously on point. this is an ep for the heads, the only punches it pulls are bass laden ones to the solar plexus. those out looking for the freshest of deep beats, it’s time to load up, you’ve just found them!

downfall theory embarks on a new chapter as it hosts a full release from a producer other than its owner, sanys. myztical isn’t exactly a newcomer though, and the ukrainian producer has already two releases to his credit on nicz records. given the title of his debut on downfall theory, it is no surprise to learn that myztical is using it as a means to question reality. inspired by the science fiction writer philip k dick and decades of electronic music, he certainly succeeds on venturing into uncharted territories on the title track. muffled, repetitive vocal samples, an atonal rhythm and relentless, slightly distorted kicks show that quite often, simplicity is the most potent ingredient. on “faith of our fathers”, myztical disappears farther down the wormhole. splintered rhythms, deranged howls and a deranged filter push his vision for broken beat techno into the abyss. “substance d” sees the ukrainian hotshot return to a more linear approach, pounding kicks underpin ghostly shrieks before a breakdown sees the track descend into grimy, woody mcbride-style acid. the accompanying vocal sample, the embodiment of a bad trip, only serves to accentuate the track’s darkly hallucinogenic qualities. finally, there’s “shifted realities” - it revisits the jagged filters of “faith of our fathers”, but does so against the backdrop of a pounding industrial kick and a grungy, low-slung rhythm.

the third and final chapter in a three-part ep series from field records comes from michel isorinne, who has released a number of tapes under various lies in recent times

close to the days of the days, when the maya calendar will come to an end and somthing special is waiting for human beeing, two smart fellas from berlin are contrebuting this happening with the so called popocatepetl ep. popocatepetl is a yet sleeping massive vulcano in mexico, who just recently rumbled to life. it looks like this ep will come up with the same energy and power. four tracks with many statements and diversity and still homogeneous in their substance. to find an own style and esspecialy an own sound is what the two try to push to the fore. if we compare this release to their last successful released track on tonkind schmalwild, we hear this major line, where a transperent empathy is to find. kotelett & zadak, showing on this ep their ability to creat dance music with a certain flow and groove which makes you feel aloof and hot but still laid-back and relaxed. it just shows their own temper and shows us why, this two guys are one of the most beloved djs in berlins underground scene. its their personal spirit what comes up in the music, that makes this release sound so authentic. hopefully people will notice, yet even without any dramatic fireworks, popo has the power to wreak havoc.

auch bei dem zweiten pan-pot release auf ihrem label second state erfüllt das techno-duo alle erwartungen. lasst euch von dem grau in dem titel „grey matter“ nicht täuschen. dieser track leuchtet feuerrot wie auch die vocals unterstreichen: „we’re burning“! auf der anderen seite zeigen pan-pot mit „substance“, wie man die spannung bei einem titel ins unermessliche steigert. immer kurz davor mehr zeigen zu wollen nimmt sich der track wieder zurück und hält das schöne, aufgeregte gefühl am siedepunkt.
