oshana returns to partisan with an immaculate transmission that fuses tough techno rhythms with head-twisting psychedelia. she s on devastating form on this record, rolling out cosmically-inclined arpeggios, sci-fi fx sweeps, heavy pulsing pads and tones and crisp, unrelenting dancefloor rhythms.
sebastian eduardo burst onto the scene in 2016 with a fine debut ep entitled ultima necat, now comes his second ep, this time released in the untold stories protagonist series. dedicated to the legendary poet hanshan, the ep is a deep and personal offering, it keeps to the style which made his debut so appreciated: positively charged, quirky and enlivening micro house, but this time there s a deeper personal dimension to the tracks, a nice development and another welcome offering from the young swiss producer.
shaun reeves & tuccillo present a new facet of their ongoing collaborative efforts, with a collection of works that took root in the woods of ibiza. shantu’s first record opens with primero, a classy ride through dreamy melodic elements and a relaxed groove with a steadily rising pace. ingenue moves things into 2nd gear with a deep and funky bassline that is soon propelled further with a variety of organic percussion elements. the long b side zissou would certainly be at home in the team zissou minimalist playlist, a mysterious and psychedelic underwater trip populated with strange echoed synths and steady precision drum machine work.

casino shanghai was a -techno-pop- band started in the mid-80s in mexico city. they released their debut and only album -film- in december of 1985. an album considered today as cult status. casino shanghai were part of a great cultural change in mexico and its music scene. the band made various controversial appearances on tv when a band without a drummer or guitarist was unheard of. all members had been in different notorious bands in the local scene. ulalume was the lead singer of the casuals (punk-new wave) and denseundergrowth (avant-garde). carlos robledo and walter schmidt were part of size (post-punk) and have been playing together for many years in decibel (experimental). humberto alvarez played with mcc (prog rock) and is currently a well-known musician and multi-instrumentist. before the band split-up they recorded two last songs in 1986, -le tombeau d edgar poe- and -l action minimal-, as part of an unreleased solo ep for ulalume. these tracks were edited in 2014 on 12″,,, by mannequin records together with a remix by in aeternam vale. the music of casino shanghai was also used for the soundtrack of some mexican films. -crónicas de familia- directed by diego lópez and nominated for the ariel award for best original soundtrack in 1986, and -juana la cantinera- directed by josé loza. -film- has been restored and remastered for this new edition including all original tracks plus two bonus: -le tombeau d edgar poe (haunted version)- and -cuerpos huecos- (spanish version of -hollow bodies- available only on a promotional 7″,,,). limited to 350 copies on white vinyl with a new artwork and printed inner sleeve with photos and song lyrics.

while she may be based in berlin now, shanti celeste has deep roots within idle hands. from working behind the counter when the shop first opened to playing the label parties and co-running the neighbouring brstl label, shanti s contributions to the bristol house music scene have been ever-increasing as she has grown as an artist. having put out our her second ever 12inch,days like this, back in 2014, it gives us great pleasure to welcome her back as an internationally respected producer with a relentless gig schedule and a rich back catalogue of warm, heartfelt dance music that kicks where it counts. shanti s stylistic palette may have broadened over the past four years, but she s also retained a natural, unpretentious quality in her tracks that can span all manner of grooves and tempos. make time certainly chimes with her earliest house productions, but it s also offset by a wistful, meditative maturity. swooping pads, distant vocal threads and delicate fragments of breakbeat flirting in an aqueous soundscape whatever city shes based in now, this is surely deep house infused with a quintessential bristol ruffness. -thoughts- meanwhile speaks more to the artistic development shanti has undergone over the past few years, bearing the influence of melodic techno, electro and broken beat while striking a unique chord in the process. it s a hypnotic, alluring track that eschews basic dancefloor demands in favour of a more intimate headspace shaped out by snaking, polyrhythmic synth lines. both make time and thoughts stretch out over extended running times all the better for losing yourself in the heady atmosphere shanti has created on her very welcome return to idle hands.
label friends call super and shanti celeste on this second 10 year anniversary 12- for dekmantel 8 to follow tip! five years after their first event, dekmantel records saw the light of day. over the course of 2017 the label will release ten eps from artists that are close to their hearts, artists that have shaped dekmantel into what it is today and producers who never fail to inspire them. each ep comes in an unique full-color printed inner-sleeve, housed in a glossy outer-sleeve with logo punch out. shinkwrapped, stickered and pressed on 180 grams vinyl.
steppas records presents osaka steppas vol. 1, the first in a series of releases showcasing the japanese underground dub movement. this edition features osaka producers sak dub i and 2shanti. sak dub i’s raw and unrelenting steppas sound developed in the subterranean clubs of osaka, a port city famous for its counterculture night life. inspired not only by the sounds of jamaica, but also drawing inspiration from uk and european soundsystem culture, sak dub i has enkindled a new sound, unembellished, incandescent, combustable dub. 2shanti of cotyledon soundsystem contributes two equally tempestuous cuts of his dubstep inspired 20kg, contrary to its modest title this track delivers 20 tonnes of pressure with enough bassweight to test even the toughest of soundsystems. presented in a beautifully designed full colour sleeve inspired by the works of the legendary ukiyo-e woodblock artist, hokusai.
“mirror test” conjures that rare mood between darkness and elation, contemplation and celebration, and drives it home with an infectious, jacking rhythm section which recalls the late-80s ny club music of boyd jarvis and paul simpson, and labels like easy street and fourth floor, but imbues the sound with a toughness and precision only possible today. analog synth figures, glassy and angular, ricochet around the track, trading jabs with funky snare work and robotic, stabby chord patterns to create a hook-laden machine groove which demands repeated listening.
the record’s b-side feature, “replace yourself,” is the subtler, dreamier, more futuristic of the two. unmistakably urban with its swinging, bottom-heavy groove and strange, architectural chord work, it seduces and transports. “replace yourself” dares you to do exactly that.
on just their second release the micronesia crew are already proving themselves to be impeccable selectors when it comes to curating their various artist gatherings. ulithi opens in a gloriously serene funk courtesy of lk, who pushes deep house right to the edge of consciousness with untitled. shanahan & lynch rise to the challenge and head even further out into ambient pastures with the ethereal pulse of ask, before duijn & douglas whip up a hypnotic cycle of chords and rhythms for the deep end of the night. omar santis and vgav maintain the mellow disposition of the record perfectly, leaving you with five fresh, thoughtful variations on gentle house and techno.
lithuanian mainstay donatello first appeared on norman hs stripped label back in 2012, and hes since returned for repeat trips into warm, polished progressive house. now he appears alongside shane blackshaw for a rare outing on vinyl with the immersive groover catch 23. undulating chords and dubby fx processing make for an intoxicating blend on both the vocal and instrumental mixes of the lead track, while label regular kastis torrau gets busy on the flip with a more brooding version of the original, using a similarly delicate sound palette but turning it to noirish chord progressions for the darker dancefloor
fun records fourth release signed by startling producer neik represents all that barem and alexis cabrera once expected when they settled their labels playground. because nicolas neiks debut can be considered definitely as unique: his three tracks are like three priceless tickets to explore an enhanced electronic music game based on a limitless creativity balanced with a strict self-demand
dope two tracker on shanti celeste s newly ripened peach discs from the lady herself tip!shanti - i started peach discs because i feel like the time is right. i want to release music that makes me happy and build a little family with all my friends and friends of friends who i know are making great music. i also want this to eventually be my main home for releases. in the future there will be releases by a new bristol duo called fred and a 12 by samuel as well as many others of course! the first release, by yours truly, has an emotional and energetic breaksy number on the a side and the b side is a more striped down-ish, tough and bass heavy cut with some vocal samples. both full of twinkly melodies and arpeggios as per usual! enjoy

minds expanded and bodies soothed by krakataus deep spiritual eruptions, growing bin take us back to the beginning with three impressionistic jazz landscapes from the magical merge. inspired by childhood memories of an iranian oasis, jo lienen let his fingers breeze over the keys like a warm shamal, leading him back through dusty streets and covered markets to his long forgotten kashan.
a slip effort between mike shannon, hear & brain of cynosure and ohm hourani, the mind behind anoma, conform our second release. on this side, shannon immerses us into his unique world of underwater reverbered chords swimming in proper beats for fired up dance floors. on that- side, ohm hourani s mesmerizing journey of hypnotic percussions and shamanic female vox, sets our emotions for late night dancing. one record, two canadian friends and an amazing trip through a world of sounds is what castelar discos has to offer this time.
american experimental musican shane english continues in a long tradition of outsider electronics as hes been humbly prolific in his output though the years involving himself in numerous recording projects.collaborating with jonah lange in their group corporate park as well as an ongoing collab with beau wanzer (seeing a release last year under the cp/bw name), english now commits his second full length solo offering to vinyl in the form of the general dimensions lp. sparse machine driven electronics dominate the recording providing a back drop for the occasional pulsating rhythm, metallic clank or floating obscured vocal. while it is a dark and sparse affair there is a quiet downtrodden beauty throughout giving the recording a sense of uncertain serenity in an almost shoegazey way. highly recommended for those into early electronics.

for this new release, rue de plaisance opens its doors to a new york city artist we have been following since her debut 3 years ago. she’s developed a very personal, warm and groovy sound on different labels (brouqade, bodyparts) and in her live acts. her recordings have gathered the support of great artists from the scene and it s a real pleasure to welcome oshana.
oshana returns to us with the multiverse ep, it s an undeniable thrill to see how our girl from nyc has evolved over time. the tough, sure-footed approach on both tracks here suggests a more techno-flavoured influence coming to bear on oshana s studio work, and she makes the style all her own. from the warm, pad-enriched swell of rashomon theory to the bass-driven sass of voyager , this is oshana at her most confident and dynamic, and we re thrilled to be sharing it
special remarks: warehouse find. vinyl only.
