the levels of deep that trinidadian deep can reach with his sound are almost unfathomable, and he s at it once again for deepartsounds. as if he needed any help getting down low, sarignia bonfa lends her steamy vocals to i need you- and the trademark trini sound gets into a whole new realm of sensuality. fusion pulls things out of the boudoir and into the sunlight, bringing some of that infectious, uplifting soul to the table that he made his name on. future funk places some synths at the front of the mix and sharpens the edges of the drumming, giving the brain one last blast before allstarr motomusic steps up for a remix of i need you that goes down very smooth indeed.

we are really proud and honored to present espectrum, a year-long effort to put together a compilation of the best dub techno. the idea was simple, but ambitious: ask some of our favorite artists for one track to epitomize dub techno—the style of music we’ve loved and continued to develop since our birth as producers and a label. with a very precise idea of what we wanted to collect, the compilation was carefully built with hypnotic, obscure, dense, and magical sounds with an eternal hook. these are the kind of tracks that will never lose their appeal, because they go above and beyond labels, styles, and trends, resisting the passage of time. after the first tracks starting coming in, the idea grew more and more special, and the concept even stronger. we knew we were onto something really big. and, finally, here it is.

roots go deep are a label devoted to releasing music by south african artists. since 2012 they ve released seven eps by names like d.nel, makhen gigga and label owners ofuren and fred buddah. now that they ve established themselves in the digital realm of music, roots go deep arrive on the physical medium with a split ep of deep and dubby sounds from ofuren and fred buddah. the two provide two collaborative tracks in -floral synergy- - a woozy house jam in line with mcde s raw cuts - and -do deejays dream of dancing sheep-, a sublime mix of subaqueous chords, chilled out drums and touch of acid. buddah just about goes ambient on his solo track -ragan- while ofuren keeps it heads down and uber-dub on -ripples through reflection-. roots go deep indeed.

digging deep into the annals of gospel now, the name pastor tl barrett should be familiar to the eagle eyed crate diggers amongst you. an extremely colourful character from chicagos southside neighbourhood who found himself on the wrong side of the law for his involvement in some activities of a dubiously illegal nature, more importantly, besides this the pastor was widely known for his community activism and positive sermons preaching love and responsibility.

dj deep is know as one of the key players in the french house and techno scene for many years now! recently he found some old recordings on dat tapes. going through these tapes he heard several tracks that somehow still sounded fresh!. after listening he got fascinated. he describes some of the cuts as raw and somehow naive tracksand as something naive, authentic and honest. so here we are... with a nice piece of wax that has 2 great tracks produced around 1994-1997, and 2 solid 2011 remixes. rootstrax comes with an excellent mix that is an emotional deep take that really captures the emotion of the original and brings it to a much more mature and deep territory. the marcelus mix gives us a much more radical, uncompromising techno interepretation. another stunner on deeply rooted house!!

fimo is the project of three guys from the music city of mannheim. each of them has a variety of musical roots, which in combination developed to an ambitious and productive trio. the influences are ranging from deep house enriched with jazzy and dubby elements to minimal groovy tunes. these guys have been musically active in the rhein/neckar region for many years. with the pollenflug ep they present their first release and allow for a small view on their interpretation of electronic music. besides djing and studio work, fimo are currently working on their live performance. the ep already got huge support from loco dice, luciano, ray okpara, johnny d, nekes, federico molinari, pablo bolivar, lars behrenroth!

big with nick curly, jimpster, pablo bolivar, alexi delano, demon days, davide squillace, agnès, audiofly,. andi numan, another newcomer of new zealand origin, presents his ingenious take on house, fusing traditional acid and contemporary styles with ease. we are excited. this one goes out to everybody feeling tired with deep house, abandoned or stuck with techno, but still looking for the one beat, that rules them all. andi numan studied various instruments like piano from a young age of three years. in the early ninties he got sucked into the young electronic music scene, fell in love with analogue gear and started dj-ing at open air events and abandoned warehouses.

2023 repress incoming! for the second effort on his very own oblique imprint, ben buitendijk returns to the sound he’s only showcased through his well received promised land (mosaic) and a recent remix through subwax. this more dubby approach is the general thread in the sophomore oblique release called “past and present ep”. generally, this release is threading into deeper territories than it’s predecessor but is therefor revealing different sides of the label owner’s taste that are maybe being underexposed thus far.

repress - reve is a new label from paris. dedicated to artists from all around the world, genres & areas, respecting the 12 inch history, its heritage and available as digital too. this new label brings its first issue with paul johnsons cover aka the p.j. project of one of considered best larry heard & robert owens track : >bring down the walls<. originally released in 1986 on trax records, paul does the whole track with the last gear generation, >the best ear of chicago< goes back to the house roots. on the other side, one of the few ron hardys protege : k alexi shelby interpretation of glenn underground >indians & bagpipes<. k refreshes this anthem with the highest chicago edit level you can aim. deeply thinked structure. doubling the bagpipes adding subliminal frequencies, colors wish is refreshing the track. he follows his rules and put his style in it. after playing it for years. it is both >handbanging< as we say here & subtile. hit. to conclude this extended play, professor inc brings a remix focusing on the filters moves & trackey part of glenn underground, big sound, infrabass & fatness underground dj tool.

the blues roots grow surprisingly deep in the finnish music scene. from this fertile ground rises singer emilia sisco, who debuts on timmion with her phenomenal single -don t believe you like that-. with her strong background in fusing blues, r&b and jazz, emilia apparently slips also nicely into the dark soulful grooves of cold diamond & mink. in -don t believe you like that- emilia sets herself into the role of a mistreated lover, who still tries to see a speck of hope in the doomed relationship. by dubbing herself, and accompanying the lyric with graceful harmonies, she succeeds in building a powerful beat ballad, that should appeal to the darker end of the dance floor. there s a special lane in history for soul music this understated. it s cool and intimate at the same time, like there s something dangerous lurking under the surface. so roll up something nice, if that s your thing, and hop along for the ride.

alma negra are back on heist! after their much applauded 2017 release with that great soulphiction remix, theyve been rather busy taking over the scene. they started their new label alma negra records where they released 3 eps in quick succession, with new as well as older material that showcases their tropical roots and keen ear for clubby reworks. they launched their live show, doing gigs across europe with a highlight at one of londons more intimate live venues: the jazz cafe. their latest outing making their release count a total of 4 in only 8 months was on marcel vogel’s lumberjacks in hell and explored the more live / rework side of their project. now theyre back on heist with 3 new tracks, supported by an awanto 3 remix. conversation is a track we wanted to put out on heist badly, simply because it’s a beast of a track. it sits somewhere between a live african drum track, percussive techno and moody midwest electronics, with pads and strings coming in and out of play while a relentless kick drum keeps the energy on a haunting level. this track is alma negra at their filthiest, and it feels like they’ve taken a next step from last years dark and heavy luanda dub, bringing it from an intimate dreamy stage straight into the main room. this is the place shows a different side of the house spectrum with the alma’s love for dreamy deep house. the track flows up and down, with soothing rhodes chords, arpeggios and mumbling vocals setting a summery mood thats perfect for your warm up or daytime party. meanwhile, their third original track from the heart goes even deeper and navigates around a smart vocal loop topped with strings, bleeps, claps and rimshots that just keeps going.

following on from angophora s beautiful long player, ken oath is back with another full length lp from low flung. friends of the label will note that this is his third release for ken oath, and it s a fittingly mature and expansive statement for a debut lp. perhaps mature is the wrong word here, as all his brilliant ideas are backed up by a sense of whimsy that betrays his playful side. the music strikes a balance between styles and spaces that could perfectly soundtrack moments at home, in the club, and in the liminal spaces between. danny s efforts at writing dance music still contain the idiosyncratic approaches of his ambient works: the deadly deep subs and endless echo spirals on -rising damp- sounds like someone trying to piece together a drum & bass track after an off-hand conversation about the genre. he s transmuted the propulsive energy of jungle into something no less dynamic, full of stops and starts and sonic pressure but flush with space. -tarp climber- is at heart a rollicking digi-dub. the more ambient moments of the lp are equally captivating - the glassy tones of -frozen coat- sound like a space-age ensemble soundtracking a floating lounge on a suite of glass instruments, while -ocean grove- blends field recordings and dreamy synthesizer melodies to create an uncanny sense of place that unroots you from wherever you re listening. there s a heavy emphasis on danny s collaborators as well - the cold emotion duo is reprised on the spacey ‘hills hoist’. closer -bacchus marsh- is a collaboration with prophets, a cross-state ensemble that defy any easy categorisation. the music here flirts with jazz and minimalism but with a dubwise production aesthetic to produce something that recalls khan jamal s visionary -drum dance to the motherland- in spirit and practice, but this whole album sounds as otherworldly and one-of-a-kind as the aforementioned lp.
