hijacked records detroit is feeling inspired after hearing new work from one of our favourite allies in techno, jules wells. we felt it was our duty to deliver this to the people, three new productions from jules with a guest remix from our own antwon faulkner. please enjoy - -silent orchestra.- the title track from jules really set the bar for this release. jules really understands story telling with music and this track transports you to a time in techno that was both hopeful and beautifully heart breaking. a persistent chord progression is wrapped in celestial synth harmonies filing up the space all around you and reaching in. that classic clap is underpinned with a touch of acid, creating an edge. at the 4:33 mark an enchanting and haunting sign wave tells a melodic tragedy. strings come in delicately but wash over you completely. this track is both stunning and devastating.

four electrifying edits from london & paris based mytron & ofofo on the unstoppable razor-n-tape. beach buggy goes full throttle from the get go with a conga fuelled, disco jam before the clock strikes twelve and midnight drive offers up a low slung, late-night boogie cruise. on the flip side dreamy chords, soulful sweet nothings and synthesizer swells are the order of the day for elis coming, leaving capricorn to close out the ep with a bass heavy, intergalactic chugger. razor-n-tape can do no wrong, snap up on sight!

2017 saw cesar merveille & ryan crosson deliver their second long player in the shape of cerulean, drawing on their modern classical, jazz, ambient and abstract influences to create yet another unique listen featuring collaborations with a classical pianist, trumpet, guitar and double bass players. here we see those original parts eschewed into something entirely fresh from friends and close associates of the duo. leading on the release is cadenza boss lucianos sous le sol interpretation of arp, which twists and turns through the hypnotic chimes and emotive piano chords of the original whilst stirring in luciens signature modulating and intricately evolving rhythmic style. following is a collaborative rework from new yorks phil moffa and seth troxler which employs ethereal synth drones and stuttering vocal cuts alongside a bumpy percussive drive and pulsating subs. perlons bruno pronsato steps up next to remix even tides, delivering his typically raw and emotive style via glitched out, mind-bending percussion, elongated bass drones and cleverly reshaped cuts of the originals cinematic elements. l.as clovis then closes the package with his remix of nordic bummers, employing shuffled hats, lumpy subs and crunchy claps at its core whilst horn swells and aiy atmospherics ebb and flow throughout.

for over 4 years, david coccagna aka chaperone has been a constant part of great circles, as musician, art director, and muse. with snapback balaclava he once again fully embodies all of those roles, delivering three inspiring tracks, selecting his remixers with specific attention to their musical histories, and designing his cover art. across the a-side, chaperone scrapes away at the grit – personal grit, the grit of anxiety, and philly grit. these are meditations on loops, and loops on meditations. each one appears on the surface to be a brief quote, but time dilation takes over, and minutes later we discover that chaperone has welcomed us into and back out of his own healing moment. like chaperone s p o n d release grcr-009, the b-side of snapback balaclava is a great circles extended family affair with a trio of diverse remixes that expose and exploit fragments of the chaos chaperone so carefully contained. hitoshi kojima thrive reinterprets pulse feels swells beating with relentless syncopated rhythms and synth lines that hang like massive string drones. m//r lays down a signature percussion ensemble palette, zeroes in on otherwise peripheral elements of grit neglect, and then deftly navigates sea change with both. matt korvette and sean mcguinness of philly punk band pissed jeans open up the pit and finish the story, taking femur baseball bat to its literal and brutal potential with monstrous vocals and kicks.

having tamed last year s havoc and disparity into the damaged rapture of layers of reality, anthony linell is opening a new calendar with the sheared isolation of his latest album, a sense of order. linell has put his toolkit for summoning euphoria aside here, instead sculpting a glowing, diaphanous fog that swells into pensive melodies and arpeggiated whispers. graceful for the way in which it makes the bleak hospitable, the charm of coldness invites us toward the empty and the beautiful, and away from the miserable.

london s weekend circuit imprint returns with a 5 track ep from label owner michael wells entitled three marks of existence. the ep marks michael s debut on the label and is a signifier of his future direction as a producer - meditative, tense, unfolding electronics and monochrome ambient environments inform this release. the deepest of deep space is contained within ep opener antecedent , an almost menacing, enveloping track that engulfs us during it s 5 minutes or so of existence. verge follows and is driven by speaker puncturing taut, tribal drum programming and swirling satellite sounds, creeping further into the nexus. subtly heavy indeed. ‘three marks of existence mines an altogether different vein, an epic, widescreen vision of downtempo electro that is damaged, on the fritz, but containing enough melodic beauty to retain hope. souls in the machines. weekend circuit acolytes yyyy return to the scene of the crime with a monolithic remix of verge that opens the second side of this ep, showcasing their unique style and interpretation of the original mix, and following on from their previous split ep with stanislav tolkachev and their own ep ‘intention of mortal’. ‘ilmatar leaves us out and leads you into the cold night, the final transmission from the ‘three marks of existence signal. fierce drums punctuate the night sky and barren landscapes while somewhere deep inside, memories are remembered. equal parts thought provoking and anxious, the perfect end point for what will undoubtedly be a formative benchmark in the weekend circuit canon.

in the context of shigetos debut lp lineage, >huron river drive< functions as a respite of sorts, a brief stop on the roadside of a very personal into the past. but as this single release proves, it also stands alone as a pleasantly understated piece of electronic beauty. the track swells slowly from the simple chord sequence of the intro into a lushly textured slice of late-night atmospherics – with more than a hint of jazz to be found in the brushed percussion and quietly tinkling electronic piano – and then receding back into the same sequence as the track draws to a close.

we are proud to announce that andreas tilliander is back on echocord after 15 years. this march sees echocord release the ofog ep comprising three original productions from swedens andreas tilliander. stockholm based andreas tilliander is a name thats been synonymous with the underground electronic music scene for a while now, from his contribution to the glitch genre in the early 1990s through to winning a swedish grammy and producing under various monikers creating a variety of sonic art. this includes his previous echocord released lowfour alias, the raster.noton seminal moikra cliphop album and his more recently explored tm404 project which has seen him release on skudge and kontra-musik. tillianders ofog ep kicks off with an upfront and club leaning track entitled storet, which is driven by deep kicks and crisp hats that both sit tightly at each end of the mix, leaving room for twisted chords and delayed synth swells to fill the gap. next up comes the fine dub-tinged and spacious aesthetic of oliveros, where ethereal textures glide freely alongside the live-sounding tape delayed drums, accompanied by a deep, weaving sub. closing the package is risset, in which a half time bass line chugs alongside vibrantly saturated percussion escorted by dubby chords and glitchy atmospherics.

only few artists have managed to develop their own distinct style to such perfection as abe, while remaining almost entirely unknown to the public ear. he dwells in minimal music, abstract structure and well-crafted melancholia. -peasants sought instead- itself is heavily influenced by modern classical music, modal jazz and world music and is at times demanding, while remaining slightly subdued. style-wise it can be seen as ambient, though abe doesn t feel completely at home in this genre, because of its emphasis on atmosphere rather than structure. recorded at abe s home in rotterdam, it is his strongest work to date and already highly appreciated by some of the most exquisit selectors around.

shane cooper is a bassist, composer and producer from cape town, south africa. he is part of the new wave of young voices in the south african jazz scene. a prolific sideman and award-winning acoustic jazz artist, he also involved in south africa’s leftfield electronic dance scene under the alias card on spokes. features shabaka hutchings ( a.r.e project., sons of kemet and shabaka and the ancestors) amongst other fine players. big tip!

salvador breed and stijn van beek met while studying sound design and music technology in 2006. ever since then the pair have been beavering away behind an arsenal of blinking banks in amsterdam. the musical fruit of their friendship is breek, a partnership that smears the boundaries of styles and sounds with festive flare and a rainbow steaked uniqueness. for their vinyl debut yokai, a candy coloured cornucopia of elements are swirled and whirled. braindance, electronica and neo-classical are festooned with dubby tones and underground grit in a unique sound of diverse textures and deep tones. faster works, like the swooping joy of yokai, are countered by more contemplative ama. hang is a whimsical dreamscape of squirming acid lines, crisp drums and angular notes that combine to produce a brilliantly bright piece. mu-onna and oiwa are more abstract works that melt vocals with sweet strings before the final piano swells and ambient rains of burabura. a daring and dynamic vinyl debut from this eccentric duo with stunning artwork from warren du preez and nick thornton jones.

“vain” marks the prodigal return of venezuelan artist carlos giffoni to the avant-electronic music scene he was instrumental in shaping with the seminal, hybridising no fun fest and no fun productions label, which was home to debut releases by oneohtrix point never and noveller, and classics from haswell and prurient during the late 00s to early part of this decade. carlos’ first new release in 6 years, “vain” was drawn from hundreds of hours of improvisations made at carlos malibu studio, the final lp describes a tumultuous narrative in affective abstract swells and pulsating rhythms that trigger curious sensations and emotions ever familiar to his variegated, extreme, yet essentially organic output.
