another rare footnote from the early days of the legendary romanthony s musical output. -psalm 1- as the title suggests is a heavy, religious leaning low slung prayer for the dancefloor. originally released in 1992 on single sided vinyl this one has long been sought after by hardcore romanthony fans and wax addicts alike. remastered and legitimately reissued for 2016 psalm 1 is now available again, once the thing of collectors only this rare 12inch still sounds fresh! you no longer have to say your prayers to find a copy, they have been answered!

the very first release on romanthony s cult black male label from 1991 now legitimately repressed, remastered and ready to do damage on the dancefloor once again! all the mixes present showcase romanthony s heavily gospel tinged, prince leanings to full extent, covering styles from new jack swing to deep house! this one is super rare, copies scarcely show up for sale and when they do they are usually over the £100 mark! now is the chance to obtain an early rarity from the amazing catalogue of one of house music s true originals!

what $ love is one of romanthony s rarest songs. these original house mixes are one of his most sought after pieces of vinyl with pristine copies selling for upwards of £100. roman did make an r&b version on his glasgow underground album but the house mixes with their low slung dubby organ & bass grooves are the real dj deal with the westside highway mix still in many a list house djs bags.

if *the wanderer* was the record that brought romanthonys obscure blackmale label to a wider dj audience, *testify* was the release that cemented its reputation as one of the labels to check for in the us import section. here are brandnew remixes: jimmy edgar, in true blackmale style, takes romans original chops it in his sampler and lays the results over a thundering distortion tinged beat. it is proper raw jacking business, perfect for small dark rooms with a few hundred sweaty bodies. waifs & strays deliver a brilliant modern update complete with an air-punching sax solo (something that was definitely one of the nails in the deep house coffin the first time round and the kind of thing that could get you shot if you used in the 00s). illyus & barrientos deliver what is arguably their strongest remix to date dropping snips of the original over a quite brilliant bassline groove. ed one & boddenalso opt for some bassline action but add in classic organ stabs and todd edwards style vocal chops to their big-ass bass wobbler. lastly, we have the previously unreleased cd#9 vocal version which as usual, features one of romans deeper, more organic mixes.

we have been a fan of motor city drum ensemble since the brooding and eerie >escape to nowhere< in 2007 - a track that sounded like someone had listened to > french kiss< on acid and then tried to recreate what they heard. so when we started re-issuing romanthonys classics with fresh remixes, mcdes danilo plessow was always someone we wanted to on the project. it has taken 2 years to organise this mix and now it is finally here it doesnt disappoint. taking on > trust<, most people would head straight for the vocal but plessow instead eschews that idea for a warm, low slung dub mix reminiscent of muzique tropique and early glasgow underground releases by studio blue. as a more dj-friendly alternative he also delivered a completely instrumental dub mix.

on this second remix 12 inch pbr streetgang deliver a wonderfully deep modern house groove, toby tobias delivers 2 mixes straight out of the 90s basement and glaswegian wunderkind barrientos offers a kind of sun-kissed gypsy woman style re-invention.

bring u up originally appeared on romans blackmale label in 1995 as a rumbling slice of new jersey garage complete with gospel samples and romanthony collaborator the trojan horse. it was a bit of a cult favourite with underground heads like dj deep. it wasnt until roman completely re-produced and re-sang the song in 2000 that it fully took on anthem status. out went the heavy kicks and hypnotic moods and in came james brown horn stabs and a live beat that sounded like bernard purdie had joined him for the session (the drums were actually provided by roman himself). the result was an instant club hit with everyone from pete tong to francois kevorkian that reached (a very respectable 74) in the uk national charts. on this 12 inch deetrons takes the funk vibe of romans 2000 version and toughens it up for todays dancefloors, lee webster adds a monster baseline and some serious beats. on the flip-side the original blackmale version is re-issued on vinyl for the first time as is an unreleased dj friendly edit of the 2000 version done by kevin mckay.
