every so often public release takes a snapshot along their discography timeline, to pause and recognize the various artists that represent the past, present and future of where the label sits. the last such release was in 2016, and four years, twelve releases later it’s time for another marker. this ep pools together six exclusive tracks from their global family, some on the pr roster for the very first time. from the beautifully addictive melodies by tendts and metropolitan soul museum, brooding baselines and synths from richard sen and tim sweeney, to the ecstatic floor energy produced by fran-key and earth boys, the range presented here is impressive. equally enjoyable as an abbreviated album, or as singular tracks at your service.

dance music veteran richard sen has a 30 year history of djing and production. the respected global dj has produced and remixed many well-known artists including bryan ferry, john grant and lcd soundsystem. from the late 90s to the early 2010s sen was one half of the dance music duos, padded cell and bronx dogs. this is the first release on his own label which aims to explore the beauty of the night - dark and light, combining influences from black american dance music and european electronic music.

richard sens sound has always been influenced by black dance music and european electronic music and these two tracks carry on the vibe dark, electronic funk! flow master is inspired by old school new york house combined with european industrial body music. sen calls it muscle house. bad meaning good is a lighter, deep groove that takes inspiration from african percussion artists like kongotronics.

former padded cell and bronx dogs man richard sen has made some great records in his time, and songs of pressure is up there with the best of them. joining the dots between murky dub disco, horror soundtracks and ebm, it layers spooky, delay-laden synthesizer motifs and wonky vocal samples atop a heavy dub rhythm and punchy machine drums. pals andrew weatherall and timothy j fairplay deliver a bongo-laden, dubbed-out revision (part wayward exotica, part humid balearic dub), while acca strips the track down to its nare bones for a ket-addled dub. its a fantastic 12inch, and limited to just 99 copies. you snooze, you lose.

southern california producer jeffrey brodskys *i ll be strong* is the latest ep to appear on san francisco based label public release. its comprised of four tracks, with brodskys original joined by three wide ranging remixes, which complement its energetic feeling with deeper material aimed at late nights and early mornings.

emotional especial gathers pace with an eighth release from richard sen, a man whose cultured touch has had a hand in various strands of the uk underground for the past two decades. graffiti artist, graphic designer, music curator, dj and producer are all vocations richard sen has done at one point or another. here he goes solo with the ghost train ep, a dark and brooding release of old school meets new school house jack that takes its cues from 80s new york, italian house and the nascent uk acid house that sen himself documented with aplomb on a 2012 compilation for strut. naggingly familiar samples and a low slung box jam groove drive the spectral title cut forward, whilst sens mastery of delay is shown with aplomb on the dub version that closes out the record. nestled in between is the highlight however in *meteor shower* where discoid basslines merge with psychedelically charged keys and hollowed out steppers percussion.

friends for many years, richard sen and scott fraser come together with a dose of mutual admiration and back slapping by remixing each other on this 2 track ep. however, what makes this collaboration different is there are no original versions appearing, just these remixes.

wir brauchen keine neuen techniken. jeder hat eine technik. was wir brauchen, sind neue sounds. und es ist nicht einfach, neue sounds zu finden.- aber genau dieser aufgabe verschrieb sich richard pinhas. heute kennt man den franzosen nicht nur in seinem heimatland als etablierten space-rock-elektronik-musiker. doch 1977 war -rhizosphere- sein erstes soloalbum. zuvor hatte er schon fünf alben mit seinem wegweisenden bandprojekt heldon veröffentlicht. befreit von jeglicher gruppendynamik schickte er sich auf -rhizosphere- mit hilfe seines kurz zuvor erworbenen moog-modular-systems dazu an, in neue klangwelten vorzustoßen. auf vier der fünf tracks sind der 25-jährige pinhas und sein synthesizer ganz allein zu hören. wir erleben dabei eine verschmelzung von mensch und maschine, die sich immer mehr zu einer ausgedehnten, abenteuerlichen reise in unbekannte gefilde entwickelt. pinhas’ vereinfachter ansatz brachte eine ganze galaxie an sounds und ideen hervor. jeder track beherbergt ein eigenes akustisches und emotionales mini-universum. die bandbreite der stimmungen ist kaum zu fassen. außer pinhas war nur noch der schlagzeuger françois auger beteiligt. er begleitet pinhas auf dem 18-minütigen titeltrack, der sich anfühlt wie ein raketenflug zum mond.

with its lush live string and horn section, can’t stop loving you when originally released in 1990 was an immediate favorite in the uk, and represented famed house producer marshall jefferson’s movement toward utilizing live instrumentation in his productions. the track was released right around the time the kiss fm london launched as a legal radio station, and richard was support talent at the radio station launch party in hyde park london that was headlined by fellow chicagoans ten city.
the track also represented one of the last releases on the relaunched sam records imprint, before michael weiss ceased releasing new titles on sam and started nervous records.
krystal klear has shown a unique ability to recognize sonic elements trends from past eras, and re-shape them to work for today’s club crowds. with his two versions, he has done a masterful job remixing this early 90’s dance classic.

dark entries is honored to re-issue one of the greatest and most overlooked albums of the 1970s. time actor was the result of a collaboration between legendary crazy world & kingdom come visionary arthur brown and german synthesizer and ambient genius klaus schulze, recording under the pseudonym of his alter-ego richard wahnfried. richard is the name of klaus son born in 1979, and the first name of the german composer wagner. wahnfried is the name of richard wagners house, from the german -wähnen frieden fand (that his search and hopes will find peace). the album was a unique fusion of brown s eccentric musical vision and schulze s mastery of synthesis. the album was originally released in 1979 on the german innovative communication label. time actor stands out amongst schulze s massive catalog as a masterwork of avant garde new age. schulze helms the project on electronics, and guests include michael shrieve on percussion, vincent crane on keyboards, and vocalist arthur brown, who sings – or should we say, speaks – on top of it all. schulze describes the wahnfried project in the liner notes as “the collective pseudonym of an idea: time-electronic, an experiment between avantgarde and muzak: utility-music for sound-covered environment, in which a new generation grows up: richard wahnfried is this generation: music between genius and nonsense: new ideas transported by an old medium to your ear.” this newly re-mastered reissue expands the original 60 minutes of music across a double lp to help with playback and distortion experienced on original pressings. we’ve added a bonus track in the form of a cosmic 12-minute extended remix by italian producer and dj maurizio delvecchio from 1983. all songs have been remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. housed in a gatefold jacket with original album artwork featuring a surreal painting by german artist peter nagel plus lyrics and notes. “i wish you plenty of time” - klaus schulze

“we are what you think we are” is the tenth dispatch from the crew here at lost soul enterprises, new york city, usa. this compilation features a whopping 15 artists who together represent all corners of the label’s extended family, with frequent local collaborators paired with past guests of our various parties. it is served with love from us to you on 3 slabs of vinyl released in 3 installments.
each installment charts a different component of our sound: 10.1 highlights the influences of synthwave and postpunk electronics, 10.2 is comprised of razor-sharp acid and overdriven electro, and 10.3 delves into darker shades of industrial techno. together, all of these elements loosely sketch our little corner of the sonic universe. with this humble offering we tried to capture and share with you a little sliver of what we’ve found together in hazy rooms full of flashing lights and strange sounds.
