ras g and moresounds explore the outer reaches of sound system culture for dub-stuy’s new collaborative series of eps. brooklyn-based label dub-stuy kicks off 2018 with the inaugural release of a new ep series dedicated to unearthing and celebrating the outer reaches of sound system culture. taking its cue from the classic dub releases where two producers would face off with their own versions, dub-stuy’s meets series brings together artists who have a clear dub influence but do not operate solely within the sphere of the dub and reggae world. the first such meeting is between los angeles beat supremo ras g (brainfeeder, stones throw) and paris junglistic dub scientist moresounds (cosmic bridge, astrophonica).

french producer moresounds makes a welcome return to cosmic bridge five years after his debut. the paris-based dub scientist was one of the first artist om unit picked for the label and the co-sign helped launch his career, which has since included contributions to astrophonica, doc scotts 31 records, and remixes for machinedrum as well as a growing touring schedule that saw him take his unique live show to asia and america in 2016

moresounds has left the training camp and is now at the controls of his own craft. a dub fanatic, he stays true to the techniques of king tubby, and from behind his desk sends dancefloors crazy with pinches of hip-hop and jungle in his authentic and energetic live show. this approach caught the attention of om units cosmic bridge label in 2012 before his debut ep on astrophonica in 2013. since then his music has appeared on doc scotts 31 recordings and has added trademark cosmic dub seasoning to machinedrums vapor city project. an impressive start to his career, echoed in fact magazines inclusion of the producer as one to watch in 2015.

release no. 4 on the limited label is done by the two german djs tensor& re-direction. both are resident djs in the well-known cosmo club in oberhausen and already played on big hardcore partys like army of hardcore, earthquake, hardcore warriors, pussy motherfuckers and many more. besides that, tensor has been working for the important records recordstore and online-shop for more than 10 years and now moved to the label management.
the ep offers the two completely different tracks >fear<, a melodic mainstream slammer (with mc vocals by mc axys and a great remix by their friend thorax, still known from his release on important hardcore limited) and the hard, straight in ya face track >hate<, with a stunning remix by megarave artist squaresoundz.

repress !! safe trip is taking one final deep dive into the warm waters of italian dream house with welcome to paradise volume 3, the concluding chapter in the label’s journey through the previously overlooked world of one of dance music’s most vibrant and influential underground movements. . while the influence of dream house continues to echo through the ages, the style was at its peak between 1989 and ’94, when producers across italy delivered a high volume of loved-up, wavy and occasionally blissful productions that fused contemporary deep house tropes – most notably from chicago, new york and new jersey – with elements borrowed from ambient, jazz and balearica.

(clear 10 inch vinyl) the second release to be pressed into totems slabs of 10-inch vinyl is from techno impresario luke slaters l.b. dub corp moniker. slater has been operating as a pioneer, with a full deck of aliases, throughout the genres many corners since the days when techno was a newborn phenomenon. the stripped back sounds of l.b. dub corps last releases on the imprint have resounded naturally within the psychotropic space carved out by stroboscopic artefacts.

following the success of recent novamute releases by charlotte de witte and anna, nicolas has delivered a stellar techno ep. will appeal to fans of ricardo villalobos, len faki, ben sims, jay lumen, charlotte de witte, anna, chris liebing limited edition 12inch vinyl part 1 of a 2 ep series. bougaïeff returns to novamute with permutation djinn inspired by greg egans sci-fi novel permutation city. a follow up ep will be released later this year. following the success of recent novamute releases by charlotte de witte and anna, nicolas has delivered a stellar techno ep. bougaieffs interpretation on permutation djinn attempts to translate the stages of egans novel into music while respecting the constraints of making club friendly tracks. the opener woke up as a copy is an expansive track with blade runneresque metallic reverberations. panic time tryout is a peak time cut, fostering the futurist atmosphere with an unsettling melody. little djinn is the most frenetic of the tracks whilst no escape takes it back to peak time with resounding drums and drills.

fernando sanz has been steadfastly dedicated to the craft of beats and breaks since he was a young sprout of 14 years in the sun baked southern spanish port city of algeciras. under the imprint orbe records, sanz has cultivated his own thriving techno community as artist and label head. since 2014 orbe records has been lashing the block rocking techno of sanz’s comrades eduardo de la calle and steve stoll, but mostly of sanz’s own prolific moniker, orbe. as dj and producer orbe keeps the mood surreal and dreamy while deploying understated drum machine patterns to hammer the platonic solids that keep his beloved community in tact. his forthcoming 3-track “hohenheim” ep for the barcelona label, lone romantic, keeps the orbe buzz rolling. “hohenheim” kicks the record into motion with the resounding thuds of a multilayered big-room kick while bright synths and sharp edged sci-fi machinery climb the walls in obscure and narcotic patterns. “shimano’s tribute” is a study in the fundaments of techno that lull the listener with an extended 4x4 intro into a state of high mental absorption, just in time to drop the centre piece of the track, an eloquently ovular stutter sliced percussion sample. “edelweiss” sets the record on a outward course for somewhere between the hypnotic dance floor bliss of a pre-dawn sunday morning and the impending angst beholden to glimpsing the dystopian sprawl of civilisation when flying out monday morning.
