channeling that classic playful braindance feel of early afx, u-ziq and fellow acid-connoissuer luke vibert, pearl river sound (real name roberto semeraro) has quietly builded up his own profile in the last 5 years with releases on r&s recordss own meda fury, further records, seagrave and x-kalay. not another average idm/breakbeat throwback tough: here prs delivers train with no name, a 6-tracker of razor-like rephlexian science, taking inspiration from his ambivalent work with laptop & old hardware machines, yet, the magic lays down in arrangements and spaces, builded around jacking bassline swings and detuned, lush pads all melted together in powerful u-turn rhythms and genius sampling, from the moody opener elek41 to the demented vocals of cccc2 and mr continue or the straight-up acid of mono sequencer bass. occasional walls of white noise and distorted tones emerge in train 2, possibly his most tense track ever but also one that reveals new sonic solutions for a forthcoming full length that should see the light anytime next year on the label. sharing the same sensibility of fellow roman institutions like lory d or leo anibaldi to keep the acid legacy of the city alive, mixed up is proud to start a new beginning with this release. full sleeved and cut at 45.

meda fury presents *remember every moment ep* by pearl river sound. fury continue to bring the heat with their first release of what could quite possibly be a banner year for the label. pearl river sound is the moniker of italian musician roberto semeraro. based in rome he emerged on the scene with a cassette release on the seattle label further records. after a further cassette release on indole records which again explored his classic 90s electronic and idm influences, his media fury debut sees him bring in some 4/4 beats to channel classic deep house sounds without losing his signature pure and melancholy sound.

the 20th release from nina kravizs seminal &#1090,,,,,,,&#1088,,,,,,,&#1080,,,,,,,&#1087,,,,,,, imprint is an homage to some of the most uncompromising manifestations of electronic music imaginable. tracing sub-cultures from the 90s to the present day, &#1090,,,,,,,&#1088,,,,,,,&#1080,,,,,,,&#1087,,,,,,, 20 interrogates the boundaries of tempo and form via hardcore, gabber, acid techno and ambient. a mix of unreleased material and essential gems, the ten-track compilation visits &#1090,,,,,,,&#1088,,,,,,,&#1080,,,,,,,&#1087,,,,,,, regulars, esoteric masters and relative newcomers on a voyage to the extremities of a global underground. &#1090,,,,,,,&#1088,,,,,,,&#1080,,,,,,,&#1087,,,,,,, 20 continues the tradition of gatefold double eps as a conceptual album. all of the tracks are selected around a particular story, a trip, and presented as a continuous sonic landscape. all of the tracks are structured in a way that they can be mixed one with another an endless amount of times making a continuous loop, a trip, that needs only end when the party stops. kraviz works without release dates or deadlines, enabling her to achieve a certain sound bank to shape the story, unmasking the thoughts and unraveling like a dream.

the pieces were created as structured improvisations using a monophonic synth (primarily) along with a yamaha dx7 (borrowed from a friend) and possibly a guitar. recording was made on an older otari mx5050 1/2 8 track. mixing was done on a tascam m-50 console and a revox a77 1/4 machine. i recall the project happened in two bursts: i did half of it in september 85, then i finished up and edited the album together in december 85. i dont really recall making copies for anyone. i think i played it for a dozen people and that was it. just forgot about it. i remember jeff ament from pearl jam (green river back then) came by while i had it playing on my home stereo. he asked what it was and said he liked it. surprised me a little. with regard to overall aesthetic: i like the sound of machinery, but i enjoy the fragility of human error and human instinct. i like to put things into motion then climb aboard and drive. i can’t play an instrument (in the classical sense) for the life of me, so i’ve always just played things that are mostly choice rather than a convolution of style and technique. i guess you call that the brian eno school of rock.
