the vinyl factory has teamed up with french label zone for another rugged techno four tracker, this time from close associate and well established production talent maelstrom. though his name suggests total chaos, maelstroms music belies intention, focus and precision. often marked as exciting newcomer to french techno, maelstrom has actually been making music for over fifteen years. with a cryptic history of aliases and side projects, illegal raves thrown in warehouses and fields and basements, the artist has really come into his own under this moniker. the optics ep showcases metallic techno, acid house, industrial noise and stark ambient sounds, forging smokey machine music for those with a penchant for post punk and a soft spot for the spikier end of the techno spectrum.

the inaugural release for the label offshoot of australian radio show noise in my head, tracks for performance serves up two new tracks from la-based anomaly suzanne kraft. originally conceived as a contemporary dance score, these proven body movers are some of the producers toughest work to date. dead ringer finds a snake charmer harmonising with the racket of a metal works factory while ruff bathers tries to operate the forklift under heavy sedation.

glorious and epic two tracker vinyl for bosconi records, this time by our favourite detroit techno duo the oliverwho factory. we used to be big fans of their madd chaise works and latest rush hour and planet e were awesome, but that percussive sound was different from what we knew from their past. we wanted them to give another chance to their more jacked out musical side in memory of the two masterpieces (and bosconi soundsytem favourite waxes) those were >the rhythm< and >the rain 5th wave<, and so we proudly got another timeless, soulfull, spacey and futuristic techno anthem called >take me away< darryl with his magic hands has created an ultra effective combination of energetic and groovy pumpin kick with a tight funky bassline substaining an upbuilding layers of dreamy synths and stormy noises while the voice of lashone gives that unique colour and atmosphere to the track that all the oliverwho fans love, dictating their original trademark sound. on the flip, takin inspiration from tama sumo panorama bar mix samplin the ow, we got an upbeat version of their slowmotion gem called >together<, that this time, thanks to altered states re touch of darryl and shone has become a proper and fat techno arena bomb, now just for the pleasure of absolutely everybody. you wont miss it, for sure

from conrad schnitzler in the 1960s to the pioneers of detroit techno in the 1980s, experimental sonic artists were often inspired by the metallic noises of industrial factories. schnitzler wanted to recreate the sounds he heard in his apprenticeship as a locksmith with musical instruments, and the sons and daughters of the midwestern automobile-industry generation programmed the motown soul into japanese electronic music equipment. with his new piece the metal beat ep, credit 00 wants to get in line with this tradition of transforming factory sounds into music. each of the three tracks reflects on the role of the human being in an industrial environment. the never-ending movement of the machine becomes the rhythm, while the melody embodies our forlorn voices in the vastness of the factory site. the blues played by machines--modern work songs for a post-industrial society!

the latest drop from retrometro is not for the faint-hearted, as germanys myk derill brings the metal machine music. you are is a stomp and grind monster, with speaker-troubling kicks and torture chamber soundscapes. zerone is a brutal, relentless berlin warehouse workout, with deep reverbs, on-point percussion and a juicy roll on the low end. alert brings yet more of the factory floor pump, with its white noise build-ups and decayed percussion. and the caustic rhythms and haunting synths of between bring another dynamic to the ep! bruising!

bergerac is the new record label set up by uk producer and dj red rack’em (aka danny berman) to showcase the more dancefloor end of his music productions. danny is well known for his wonky disco outings as hot coins on tirk and also his deep as hell beatdown house on untracked. his style of production and djing have recently taken a slightly more banging angle due to the influence of larger scale festival gigs such as glastonbury, snowbombing and the big chill. so it seemed like the perfect time to start a label focussing on house and techno for the more discerning dancefloor. the label artwork will feature bespoke illustrations from german artist silke eiselt of all the houses danny has lived in chronologically. how much more fucking house can you get than that? how i program is a raw, heads down, whacked out banger, which straddles the wafer thin divide between house and techno with aplomb. with a massive loud donking bass noise, seedy late night atmosphere and danny shouting about how he programs his shit - this is some freaky deaky peak time business. next up is bonn, a warm crackly rhodes driven halcyon house moment, which evokes the slightly majestic and nostalgic vibe of people dancing alone together in a hot room at the end of the night. cheering sourced directly from bonn in 1982 mixes with naive keywork and distant female chants the first bergerac ep closes with it happens to us all, which could be an ode to prematurely greying men, the onset of senility or occasional farting in public places. its definitely a prime slice of wrong house with some seriously french hi hats and dubbed out bassline action though. yes, its more syncopated than an exploding castanet factory but thats how we like that kind of funk

who is the legendary lost cowboy? hes not an act who has appeared on playtime before. and hie new track spinach boy is wonky, a lot more than playtime used to be - with a lead noise like an explosion in asynth factory, if they made synth that do that clown-like >honk<-noise. fantastic remix by well known luke solomon
