fresh on francis harris kingdoms imprint comes rasmus junckers ‘ophold - six tracks of sublime atmospheres and textures. the danish musician, sound composer and dj fits perfectly with the labels aesthetic, joining the dots between ambient, leftfield electronica and modern classical. juncker has a background in studying jazz drumming and has been playing improvised music within the jazz domain for many years. he also started to dj at the age of 14 and was introduced to the world of electronic music production at the same time. when rasmus started to think about his debut album he spent several months trying to find his own way to combine his favourite musical influences, improvisation, electronics and classical music. almost a year later, juncker says, i went to a sensory deprivation floating tank in copenhagen while researching for another performance and while i was lying there, floating in the water, deprived from most of my senses, i got the idea to do something drastic in my musical process. philosophers like immanuel kant describe this deprived state as a mental cesura, which became some sort of guideline for the album.

first official reissue of the extremely rare full-length album by lagos-based bandleader shina williams. clean copies of the original currently sell for up to £500. the record was born in 1979 when shina put biddy wright, fred fisher, saliu alabi, prince bola, tutu shoronmu, tunde willimas and several other decorated nigerian musicians – who played with the likes of fela kuti, sjob movement, sonny okoson, king bucknor amongst others – together to record. the result is ‘african dances’, a timeless fusion of afrobeat, electronics, boogie and disco. includes his most well-known song, ‘agboju logun’ that williams knew was ground breaking – “i want to show the whole wide world that africa is alive with modern musicians to reckon with anywhere,”. this album version is a different mix to the two-track 12” that came out under on earthworks, rough trade in 1984. official mr bongo reissue. replica original artwork. licensed direct from shina williams.

those who experienced listening to the original maria rita version of -cântico brasileiro nº3 (kamaiurá)- on the dancefloor know it’s such a thrilling experience that could only be better if the song was a bit longer. at the same time, it didn’t make much sense to mess with the original. having these thoughts on their minds, the selvagem boys augusto olivani and millos kaiser (the minds behind selva discos) had an insight while discussing the reissue of the -brasileira- material with singer maria rita stumpf: why not hit the studio and remake the track? also, why not ask someone like joakim, known for his exquisite taste and brilliant production skills, to remix -lamento africano/rictus-? it would be the perfect package. and that’s what happened.

field of dreams are field theorys chris kentish and dj al mackenzie. field theory have recently had tracks on respected labels such as futureboogie and secret life gaining rave reviews and even garnering plays on bbc radio 6 music. al has been a dj since the late 80s, now resident at birminghams great outdoors. he s made numerous records over the years but will probably be remembered primarily for his 90s band d:ream making number one all over the world and remixing for emf and duran duran amongst others. bumping into each other in the street one dayand realising they lived opposite each other, they seized upon the chance to combine their favourite passions, making music and drinking.

mad dancer ep is freda’s second offering through sydney imprint moonshoe records - the record maintains the raw crunchy nature of his debut whilst he progresses into more dissonant atmospheres. wobbling jazz loops guide the a side through 2 up-tempo yet calming house tracks. the title track mad dancer is kept alive by crunchy, swinging hi-hats and bouncy synth melodies. smoking causes is a slow burning take on disco. on the flip (breakfast) is the curveball of the 3 tracks. a darker mood is established before a syncopated break drives the ep home, exemplified by a sliding dissonant synth melody.
