ben sims s hardgroove imprint hits its 30th release and 20th year of operations with the beginning of a new split ep series entitled toe to toe , with vol.1 provided by mella dee and subradeon. the uk s mella dee has developed a strong rep for robust club sounds via his aptly titled warehouse music imprint in recent years while the berlin-based subradeon duo have been dropping slick detroit influenced sounds for motech, rekids and their own eponymous imprint.

warehouse music is the new imprint bought to you by london based dj and producer mella dee. the second offering is a tough but soulful reflection of mella’s stomping grounds in south yorkshire where he was inspired by sounds coming out of warehouses. the a places the rough and ready ‘take it’ alongside a stripped back, percussive and driving ‘woodlands’. on the flip, a more experimental acid tinged roller ‘paul & shark’. wm002 is pressed to neon pink vinyl with a bespoke hand-stamp design of the infamous doncaster warehouse.

growing up in south yorkshire, mella dee’s early musical influences originated from the sounds coming out of warehouses in and around his stomping ground. this soon developed into a love of the burgeoning scene and audio palette from warehouse parties worldwide, hardcore, house, bleeps, techno and everything in between. with a respectful nod to the impact this had on him, aitchison strives to create his own take on warehouse music with his new project.
the debut sees mella dee present three upfront club cuts, his most energetic release to date. ‘&#8203,,,music controls you&#8203,,,’ is relentlessly compelling and trippy, with a rave stab lead, whilst ‘&#8203,,,expansion&#8203,,,’ uses acid sounds and percussion to build an outright techno groove designed for the deepest, darkest club moments. ‘&#8203,,,movement&#8203,,,’ closes the ep with a driving take on bleep and techno.

after kicking off 2016 with the massive don t need ep from callahan featuring that remix from man of-the-moment hodge, dext is back with another banger of an ep from fast rising uk producer mella dee. the man from doncaster, uk has been creating a name for himself on the scene of late with releases on redlight s lobster boy and shy fx s digital soundboy imprint, and his dext debut certainly doesn t disappoint. over the last year or so, he has been masterfully fusing 90 s jungle influences with driving house & techno percussion and his ep for us is, we think, his strongest work to date.

in addition to his work as one half of mista men, london via doncaster producer ryan aitchison has been making solo moves under his mella dee guise these past few years with appearances in all the right places (think wolf music, shabby doll and sccucci manucci).

simple, effective and downright deadly. mella dee serves up the perfect sountrack built for basements, dimmed lights and late nights. mella dees solo sound has evolved from a true passion for all things garage, a perpetual dedication to hip hop, combined with a love for house music which was heavily influenced by the darkness of uk funky and dubstep. together these influences have enabled mella dee to develop a unique approach to the fusion of these sounds, into one bumpy soundscape that is simultaneously house, garage and techno. omena omena is finnish for apple. its also a record label set up by tobias lidstrom aka tooli. dj & co-running local talk records & oneoffs.

the 7th sccucci manucci ep kicks off in moustache curling style with a scandinavian slice of four / four action from tarjei nygard. on loan from his own untz untz records, tarjei nygard weaves his way way through beautifully recorded synth bleeps and bass lines on togo, culminating in a piano breakdown which will have any party reaching for the lasers. the scandinavian vibe continues as dane brian logstrup comes correct with the classic slab of deep house sound that is i can dowhilst we return to the uk and the sounds of london producer mella dee whose uk garage and bass influences shine through on the peak time monster love is. last seen debuting on buzzin fly, alex blaxx rounds off proceedings with the wonderfully insouciant house of its a race thing

ts7, fresh from reworking singles for afrojack and tulisa, presents >grade a<, a colourful basssline number. in what will be his first vinyl outing since 2008, ts7 utilises his 4x4 roots, working a clever looping bass to perfection with some neat vocal sampling to give it bags of dancefloor swagger. complimented by a heavyweight remix package, >grade a< certainly packs a punch. remixes come from hyperdubs walton and mista mens mella dee. walton delivers an incredible grimy rework, culminating in a series of earshattering breakdowns and some fantastic synth work that draws comparisons with some of wileys early productions. mella dee, meanwhile, moves away from his 8-bar sound as heard in coyotes debut release >ctrl<, and looks to house for inspiration with >grade a< receiving a thorough rework in that vibe. full of the sounds more familiar with his mista men productions but packing more of a grimy punch, mellas remix is a surefire dancefloor favourite.

the year 2016 cemented dext s position in the boxes of discernible djs around the globe, by putting out a string of material from the likes of hodge, bodyjack, mella dee, endian, lo shea and callahan. we kick off 2017 with a bang with a killer 12inch from the fast rising otik. hailing from bristol by way of london, he has steadily been building an artillery of heavy club hitters on labels including 17 steps, push & run, infinite machine, and durkle disco, plus remixes for the likes of dusky, rosie lowe and pixelord, it s clear to see his ascension is moving at a strong pace and we are proud to be able to drop this for you we won t say much about this ep other than it fuses everything we love here at dext: hard hitting funky drum programming, super heavy sub basses and shades of rave, house and techno. backed with two remixes one from talented newcomer erosion flow who has released on martyn s 3024 label in 2016 and another mix from uk artists who are synonymous with writing club bangers mak & pasteman.

already played by sven väth, seth troxler. joris voorn, tiefschwarz, reboot... the london resident ross evana already excelled as dj at pacha nyc, at ministry of sound london or in the we love space series in ibiza. his track >thrilla in manila< first takes its time to build up before it sets a tremendously powerful exclamation mark on the dancefloor with its tropical-hypnotic percussions. with its second track, the ninth edition of cocoons 10 inch -series leads us to the land of the midnight sun. the two stockholm-born cousins alex caytas and aleks patz have started their musical collaboration only in 2007 but can already look back on a hand full of very good produced releases for the stuttgart-based label parquet recordings and the italian label caremella, as well as on remixes for martin dawson/king roc and voltique. >blue sea< shows the duos affinity to the energetic deep house techno of the nineties: with its organ sound, blues vocals and a highly infectous bass line, this track could almost pass as a modern and uncluttered version of st. germain, being predestined for warm summer nights. this is how techno sounds in 2011.

“den heliga Ån” (the sacred river) is the debut album of ambient wizard and techno connoisseur aos. the album is themed around the river helge Å that runs through the town of Åhus in the southern parts of sweden. the town in which aos grew up. the music reflects both a deep love of the river and the nature that surrounds it and has a melancholic feel of a time passed by.
on the course of this album aos invites us to take the journey on the river with him: from the sweeping electronic gestures of timelessness in tiden upphör vid mölleholmen, via the melodic pings that can be heard throughout graften, and the ritualistic electronics at play in jag eldar vass vid kavrö until the blissful mellowness of vår i biflödena – where spring has arrived, and both the river and the music are filled with a calm melancholy, yet joyful in its celebration of a winter that is ending.

firstly, a huge thanks to everyone for supporting us so far - 2016 has seen the dext label continuing to go from strength to strength, with our callahan and mella dee ep s backed with remixes from hodge and endian which have been been super well received. now for the third ep of the year from our resident comedian bodyjack. bodyjack has been an integral part of dext since he remixed dubspeeka on our 2nd release and headlined our label takeover of privilege in ibiza last summer. we are very excited about his return to the label with this 3-tracker (and our first full solo artist ep!), and we think you re going to dig this... the title track cobra effect is one of those tracks you aren t going forget in a hurry. intense and brooding, we are hard-pushed to categorise this, but layers of sinister bass coupled with dark, driving snares and eerie synth work culminate masterfully, making this the perfect dext track. hydra effect lifts the vibe with a straight up peak-time house jam with a sting in the tail. a raw-but-infectious bassline winds along under bodyjack s signature killer drum programming, before blasting off with something you aren t going to expect. rounding the ep off is slowine effect: a proper dancehall workout (reminiscent of bodyjack s earlier work) and a real cross-genre party starter. the most upbeat of the 3 tracks, this again takes all the elements of what we love about the music from the past and cleverly works them into something special for the rave. and that s not all for bodyjack on dext this year - he will be back with a one-off ltd record called -hot shot-, backed with a very special remixer...but more on that soon!

as earlier compilations of danza meccanica have taught us, italy gave birth to a disproportionate number of synth-pop, new wave and electronic acts in the 80s. mannequin goes deeper into the italian new wave archelogical research with a killer 10 tracks selection of carmody. picking their name from a science fiction novel titled dimension of miracles by robert sheckley, carmody were coming from torino, as their pairs monuments and chromagain. started as a duo (alberto ramella and andrea lesmo) and later a trio with max casacci joining in as a guitar player, carmody recorded from 1981 to 1985 and issued three incredibly rare demo tapes. sleep on mirrors compiles the best tracks from those tapes, bringing you one of the most peculiar 80s minimal synth music coming out of italy
