myk derill (knotweed, reform, etc.) is one of the most interesting dub-techno artists! here he offers two great tracks of high quality and class. never hard but never soft. the release is completed by a fantastic remix signed by markus suckut (figure spc, sckt,etc.)his remix is a clear reference to the atmosphere of the past, with his usual class! another good step for fluxus records.

primus motor sees ekman return to many of the sounds that gained him a reputation as an artist on labels like bunker and berceuse heroique. although harsh bucking acid lines, pockmarked notes, brutal beats and eerie echo are all present, a new tone has been added to the caustic palette. a psychological nuance, an undercurrent of the inchoate has been investigated and exploited to chilling effect. crippling psychoses. debilitating neuroses. physical pain. suffering stalks this first full vinyl album. sinister sounds encircle the eight offerings, hovering like vultures over inhospitable plains of ashen grey, jagged peaks and dark sweeping swamps. hope is all but drawn away in this bleached audio landscape, drained by sheer synthlines and reduced renderings. amidst the sorrow and strain there are pin pricks of joy, albeit bleak and pallid ones. an album that unnerves as it engages, a collection of icy radiance and industrial indifference from a dutch master.

nigeria’s kingsley bucknor’s ‘just u and me’ lp gets the long-awaited reissue treatment from melbourne’s left ear records. after cutting his teeth playing with fela in the 70’s and releasing two afrobeat lp’s kingsley travelled the globe before finding himself in london, it’s here that he laid down 6 distinctive electro-funk tunes inspired by african rhythms and music he’d heard through his travels in the states and in europe. originally issued on kinglsley’s own kab records in ’85 and according to kingsley the release was well received at the time, but due to constraints of international marketing the record remained mostly unknown outside of his homeland. fast-forward to 2017 and the stage is set for a new global audience to appreciate the distinct sound of kb.

following the first chapter of andy mac sdiving birdseries, idle hands welcomes italian producer piezo into the fold with an ep that harks back to the smoky, dubwise ambience of some of the label s earliest releases. luca mucci was a bristol resident for a few years before returning to his native milan, carving out an identity for his piezo alias with a slew of dubstep-focused eps on labels such as artikal music and subaltern. while on an idle hands skirmish stateside and playing on ny radio, one of the kelly twins dropped lume and remarked on how idle it sounded, sparking the process that led to this record. you can sense a link the early kowton records on ep opener opeq, all monochromatic textures and taut, slow-stalking rhythms, but here those facets are interspersed with a unique melodic elegance that offsets the moody immersion of the track, eventually blooming out into an effervescent slice of slow-motion house music. novemiluano meanwhile displays muccis capabilities in handling broken beats, exercising a devastating restraint without compromising on presence or energy in crafting a stunning piece of meditative soundsystem music. pushing that foundational dub principle of space and minimalism even further, lume closes the record out in stunning style with an intimate, glacial stepper that champions minute detail as much as looming gaps in the sound. with a peppering of micro sampling atop a deathly bassweight march, its a finely pointed arrow aimed right at the heart of idle hands, and we couldn t be happier to be releasing it.

this monster 1976 lp from nassau s munnings brothers aka beginning of the end is a stone cold classic. fact. well deserving of a place in any record collection! this, their second lp (with 1971s infamous funky nassau preceding it) features the brothers original, fresh sound a mixture of tough funk rhythms, bahamian soul and flourishes of jazz and rock is an extremely well executed and produced body of work. not surprising considering the band were one of the bahamas foremost musical outfits. the brothers musical backgrounds could not have been any more fitting, they cut their teeth playing regularly alongside the likes of nat king cole and count basie at their fathers well known nightclub the cat and the fiddle, what we get on this lp however is not jazz, but lean, melodic soul music! original copies of this seminal lp can change hands for 100 s on the used/second hand market and is a solid constant at the tops of the wants lists of record aficionados. the lp has been illegally reissued numerous times without any care or attention being taken to retain or respect the quality of the amazing music contained within. not so on this occasion, this is a fully legit, sanctioned reissue done in conjunction and with the assistance of miami s tk disco empire. now is the perfect time to revisit the deep, soulful sounds of the munnings brothers endeavours, a truly sublime collection of songs, drenched in sunshine, masterfully produced and performed with pure vitality. a truly classic album. sounding as fresh as it did almost 40 years ago. jump in the water!

since day one, radiq has been showing an affinity for the afro-centric funkiness and carefully-honed sound design of modern days minimal music. as in many of his previous tracks, all six songs of >vida noir< has this certain kind of unyielding quality - long, hypnotic grooves with muted kick drum set the stage for more emancipated experiments in texture and sound design. on >a long hot summer break<, for example, the effect is utterly obvious as kicking its ass into gear with syncopated drums and strain of warm chords before animated vocal sample slips in like fingerprint. while deeply seductive interplay of those chugging percussion gives way to delighted horn of >a-dieu<, warm chord and acoustic guitar of >calling< is perfect example for radiq’s masterful sound and texture. >machine codes modified< has rather restrained structure for him, but tightly woven drums speaks eloquently about its carefully arranged funkiness and dance floor functionality. despite their repetitiveness, its surprising how well these productions forming cohesive solidarity as an album. presumably, it owes a lot to wide tonal vocabulary which is radiqs hallmark - these tracks has something concentrated, vivid qualities. this album sits just at the edge of the dance floor, but also performs its exceptional strength on intense home listening. dusky synth and truncated surge of bass of >vida noir< constructing something dark, before closing this album with modulated afro-acoustic guitar and deep falsetto voice (by the producer himself) of >rondo<. this album offers up an engaging and comprehensive amalgamation from the inquisitive sound by the maestro

may 20th 2013 will see koreless release his debut solo ep yugen on young turks. following on from previous releases 4d/mti and lost in tokyo, and his collaboration with sampha for short stories, welsh born producer koreless has well and truly defined his own sound. existing somewhere between soulful electronica and eno-like ambience, the emotion filled soundscapes of y?gen give the listener a glimpse into the vast concepts imagined by koreless and presented through his music, artwork and performance.
remarkable in its restraint, sophisticated despite its simplicity, and almost entirely beatless, y?gen is a bold statement that deserves to be listened to and lost in.

dalhous is the latest collaborative incarnation of marc dall and alex ander, who have previously released on blackest ever black as young hunting. the change of name reflects a new clarity and conviction to their work, and while certain sonic signatures, not to mention certain extra-musical influences (particularly the films of jack bond and jane arden), have carried over from their last project, they are handled here with a newfound sophistication and restraint. mitchell heisman marks the beginning of a new chapter in the precocious duos development, and heralds dalhouss debut album on blackest ever black in 2013.

deep down slam laid down a marker of quality house with their debut emission from washerman and james johnston earlier this year, and for their second release the label looks to the current strains of house goodness coming out of ireland. sligo pair brame & klansee collaborate on a double dose of forthright house shufflers with the alright ep, the title track demonstrates the duo to fully in line with the current vogue for 90s vocal house bumpers. complementing this, *they ll be* showcases their craft for infectious melodic hooks. washerman maintains his 100% deep down slam appearance record with a killer remix of the latter track, retaining the duos hooks and adding plenty of his own production personality to the mix.

any fan of drum & bass will know the name cyantific. having built a reputation as a leader of the new school d&b generation, jon stanley is now approaching a decade of releasing incredible music thats equally at home on the dance floor as it is on your ipod or in your car. last year saw cyantific unleash an incredible single for ram records, as well as bounce it / obey on his own self-titled cyantific record label. here we have the follow up to that release and its undoubtedly another exciting 12 inch, packed with plenty of cyantifics trademark energy. effortlessly combining sharp production skills with graceful musicality, you can always be assured that a new cyantific record is one to watch out for and this new single is certainly no exception. mirador takes the lead, opening with huge sweeping sound fx and a bouncing synth line that harks back to a classic ram sound. its not long before you notice cyantifics signatures though, as he brings in vocal snippets and washing pads that gradually build and grow before a monster bassline drops into the mix. this one undeniably straddles the line between restrained musical class and outright dance floor mayhem. on the flip side defect comes in at an infinitely more paranoid level. strings are infused with urgency and rolling breaks thunder along, dragging you kicking and screaming towards the inevitable drop. you wont be disappointed when it hits either, grinding bassline sections are juxtaposed with obsessive synths, all pulling you deeper into cyantifics musical world.

11 track double vinyl album from new mark broom and james ruskin supergroup ! limited initial run on marbled grey vinyl - similar look to the recent sfbsf003 surface 12inch full picture sleeve. the project, knows as the fear ratio, has seen two of the uks finest proponents of no-nonsense, immaculately sculpted techno locked in the studio together. these sessions have already borne three 12 inch titles - no time soon, erotic misery and night nurse – two of which were released on ruskins blueprint records, with the other pressed up on brooms beard man imprint. the fear ratio moniker was adopted following the release of these club-focused 12s, with the album project honing in on more abstract and experimental textures. ruskin revealed details about the project in an interview earlier this year. he said a live fear ratio project was also in the works, with a press release claiming these would commence in 2012. as the fear ratio, broom and ruskin delve into the hinterland of contemporary music. a space where cold atmospheres meet lush melody and tough, yet clipped pulsating beats. from the warm poly-rhythmic funk of >ax< to the deep spatial reverb of >guv 1<, the dub induced strains of >pinhead< and melancholic refrain of >morning blues<, ruskin and broom deliver their new artistic agenda

encer kincy was giant in chicagos house music revival - part of the second wave of younger djs and producers that took the music of the early 1980s, rubbed it up and dropped it in places like 500 west cermak, medusa’s and the vault. a lot of people who are now superstars of the scene - mark farina, sneak, derrick carter, and dozens of others - were a part of that movement, too. spencer released a number of tracks on relief, planet e, cajual, peace frog - labels representing the classics of that era - and he usually recorded under the name gemini. as a dj, he operated in his own space - i’m sure he could play for a room, and sometimes did, but the unrestrained madness of a spencer kincy dj set had to be heard over several hours to appreciate. he could blend a sleazy disco track into hard acid, downtempo into a punishing armani track, jazz into detroit techno and so on. it wasn’t technically brilliant or tricky, but the selection was exquisite. a number of figures from his era still list him as an influence. his productions, viewed as a whole, are so much like his sets: going softer than many dared to go, and going much harder than just about any dared to go. simple jack tracks! respected by the standards of the industry of the time, and you certainly couldn’t go anywhere in chicago without hearing derrick, sneak, mark, lego, gene, jevon, diz, johnny or the other djs beating them. and so many of them have a timelessness - a little piece of eternity stuck like some bit of wax between the grooves
