what do you get when you cross a frenchman, a dane, two irishmen and a swede? the debut various artists compilation from kyoku records, of course. gathering the producers who make up their whole discography thus far, the melbourne-based imprint are welcoming back dorsi plantar, sune, long island sound and ethyene (alongside folamour and marc bianco). translating from japanese to a befitting -dancing birds-, the odoru tori ep is revitalizing the elegant origami series for one last spin. the orizuru, hachidori, oumu and hakucho, that is, the paper crane, the hummingbird, the parrot and the swan are bringing the handmade array to a suitable conclusion. on the a side, the scandinavian connection is responsible for bringing some summer heat. dorsi plantar sheds his usual wistfulness for a slightly moodier, more functional track with -senorita lolita-, although still incorporating some of that playful sampling he s now come to be known for. -californicate- from sune takes a more laidback approach and channels the breezy and carefree atmosphere of the coastal golden state. on the flip side, long island sound follow the same recipe that made -delusions- such a big hit with the intricate sampling and eloquent arrangement of -ease in-. to top things off, ethyene, with the help of folamour and marc bianco, close out the record with a groovy, vocal number that sees them employ their signature french touch formula to great effect on the simply titled -good-.

the great gatsby by f. scott fitzgerald has gone down in history as a timeless classic and is still enjoyed by readers and forced on students the world over. fitzgerald s greatest literary masterpiece was hidden not amongst his writings, but his record collection. having spent his entire life mastering writing, he was finally able to convey his indescribable experiences with long island sound by painstakingly carving the entire sonic experience into vinyl with a sharpened quill. having been now restored and reproduced, kyoku records are inordinately thrilled to present to you this miraculous work as kyoku003 - long island sound - last place you look ep.

2023 edition - black vinyl - after three stand out eps over the last three years for l.i.e.s. tzusing delivers his debut lp for the label. here we get seven tracks of precison crafted electronics, unmistakenly taking the artists signature industrial fueled sound and opening it up to a new dimension far beyond the typical metal beat clang. emotional, dark and powerful, the album title taken literally means -invincible east- based on a character (a swordsman) in a jin yong novel who must make the ultimate sacrifice to attain knowledge and transform. the narrative goes in hand with the artists observations living and travelling throughout asia and provides a haunting soundtrack for a bleak future where few dare to subvert the power structures at hand.

(re-issue of the much longed for 2013 lp with alternate artwork). samo dj and max stenerudh have billed the record as a conceptual soundtrack set in kowloon’s walled city, an ex military fort in hong kong that became notorious for its dense population, triad connections and lack of governmental control. it was demolished in the mid 1990s, but has served as the influence for plenty of projects since, and should provide a suitably shadowy backdrop for kwc 92s fractured sounds.

comes with a huge 22x28 newprint poster in japanese sealed poly sleeve. chicago s beau wanzer returns to the label with his signature sound of crunched out bizarro electronics. tip! unmistakenly, wanzer has carved his own niche through the years as this ep rightly reflects the vast range of styles he works in. from the hypnotic head nod of wick hunny to the juicy back alley electro wave of the grim whim or the nasty metallic stomp of he spilled my drink we get wanzer in top freak form, mangling the drum machines and pushing the synths to the edge. a welcome return to say the least.

originally released as a limited run cassette on low jacks editons gravats label in 2017, we now get an official vinyl pressing via l.i.e.s. krikor kouchian serves this killer soundtrack to the documentary arabie saoudite: les liaisons dangerousness where the french tv program focuses on the saudi royal familys support of wahhabism and the wests appeasement of saudi foreign policy, kouchian underlines and accentuates the content with a brooding blend of mirage-like electronics and minimalist drum machine geometries. a deviation from his previous works and he moves into appropriately darker synth territory with this one.

desperate music for desperate times, collin strange returns to the label with a hard hitting ep of 90s style warehouse acid. this is remorseless, zero compromise, full fledged acid mayhem start to finish in the truest sense of the word, coming direct from the source. strange does what he does best pushing his 303, 101 and 909 to their limits with extreme intensity and abandon. if siege made electronic music this is what it would sound like. punk electronics for those who thrive on everyday chaos of the new world disorder. no trance to be found here.

l.i.e.s. presents the first part of broken english club new album trilogy, white rats. following on from last years the english beach, white rats is described as, a collection of caustic and absurd portraits of the human animal. oliver ho continues to push his industrial influenced sound with metallic acid tracks, guitar noise/drone experiments and heavy synth wave once again with this nine track release. includes download card. the album sleeve features the disturbing and erotic photography of javier gallego escutia, which also comes as a poster with limited edition copies of the record. white rats part 2 and 3 will surface in 2019.

a longtime staple of the infamous hague scene, dj overdose returns to l.i.e.s. with what may be his heaviest release to date. razor sharp top notch production is the name of the game on this four tracker which sees overdose move from relentless broken beat electro on the a-side to the more wave influenced cuts on the b-side s, dark spectre echo and strompel. overdose proves once again he is and always has been one of the major forces in the electro world since the early-90s consistently refining his sound and pushing it to new territories. essential!

person of interest returns to l.i.e.s. with a sleazy three tracker weaving in and out of the edges of house and techno. lines are blurred in only the best way as p.o.i. expands on the sounds of his last eps, refining his style with broken beats and darkside tribal leaning driving techno pressure. top shelf stuff from the brooklyn producer.

tel aviv based two man project tv.out has been making a name for themselves these last years putting on impressive live sets, djing around the world, and running their paralaxx imprint releasing various strains of rugged, well informed electronic music. . on their debut for l.i.e.s. we get a smoking three tracker spanning styles that would not seem out of the place being played on the west coast of den hague in the late-90s. think early legowelt meets coca disco meeting heavier techno sounds as a starting point. club gear for the gearheads.

florian is back on l.i.e.s. with another massive release. this one runs the gamut from the epic pwog styled opener contact, to industrialized beat track of random chaos to stepping broken techno on closing track z as we hear the artist further evolving and exploring his sound. by far his most diverse and mature release to date.

coling strange lands on lies.. going to hit hard, this one..tip! collin strange has a long and storied history in the new york city underground music scene of the nineties. from owning a record shop in the east village, to working at distributers, to playing in bands of all sorts, to producing music alone, strange was around at one of the most vibrant (and transitional) times in the l.e.s., just on the cusp of guliani s culture crackdown which choked the life out of the city, forcing many to leave. currently located in seattle, strange has picked up where he left off years ago plugging in the gear and churning out blistering acid cuts with a very d.i.y. edge that brings to mind drop bass network, unit moebius, or free party french acid of old. coming full circle these tracks are completely at home on l.i.e.s. and will undoubtedly thrash any soundsystem in sight. play at maximum volume for total disruption

the argentinian based ngly had seemingly appeared out of thin air landing on the brooklyn based l.i.e.s. label in 2014 with an untitled four track white label ep. on this ep, the unsuspecting track -speechless tape- ended up becoming a cult hit with select djs in the scene (i-f, mick wills, intergalactic gary...) eventually leading to it being voted as intergalactic fm s #1 track of the year in 2014. on the heels of his successful debut rudolfo could have stayed the path and produced an easily digestable follow up dance record or two, instead he chose to take his time and reflect. sitting back in the studio tweaking his live act, recording endlessly, transforming and refining his sound.

insane hyper hybrid combo of wave/house/techno by murray cy of glasgow. the cy stands for -contort yourself- the label he runs which bridges the gaps between lost sounds of the past and contemprary noise makers, this ep displaying the producers take on the sound perfectly. all four tracks move in their own way from mid-tempo heaviness to more peak time fare. this is the rough back alley stuff you ve been warned about!

forming during 1997 in providence, rhode island experimental group black dice have without question paved their own way through their 20 year career. doing what you want to do when you want to do it, no questions asked with a fully informed yet blatant disregard for everything surrounding them, always with acute execution and an ever changing singular sound. no gimmicks, no nonsense, since the beginning.
somehow it would only make sense for dice and l.i.e.s. to link up and after a long friendship we see it come to fruition. with this two track 12 inch dice put their foot on the gas and ramp it up. you wanted to shred? well this shreds. is it a snapshot of the past? a possible nod of things to come? a moment frozen in time? we leave it for you to decide.

hard edged metallic beat techno, shawn o sullivan picks up right we he left off on his last -this coercion pt.i- ep earlier this year. again we get driving, sharp machine music not so far from the birmingham school of the 90s sound with this latest ep. o sullivan has a knack with eloquently pummeling the listener as demonstrated here, the track fully automated being the perfect example as it airs out midway through taking a break from the punishment. top stuff..

new three track ep by los angeles producer silent servant. these will fly ...tip! known for his previous work with techno outfit sandwell district, juan mendez, since the dissolve of the group has tapped into his formative new wave/post punk and early electronic influences effectively applying them to his recent productions to create an engaging amalgamation of modern dance music. across this ep the sounds of bleep, ebm, and even minimal synth are all present...from deep floor movers to jagged edged 150 bpm skankers, mendez through these last years has been responsible for opening up minds on the floor and this ep proves to be a testament of such.

ngly makes a return to l.i.e.s. following his highly lauded “speechless tape” ep from 2014. since then we have seen argentinian producer taking his live act around the world to much acclaim. luckily he s also been in the studio recording and finally delivering this new three track ep. here we get his signature dusty low slung sound full of basslines, creeper strings and driving drum programming. these are subtle yet effective funk-ridden club tools that are sure to move the floor and a precusor to even more from the in demand producer.

the highly anticipated follow up to their 2013 dream of the walled city (ost) lp, samo dj and max stenerudh return with another far out record complete with backstory. originally composed as an accompanying piece for artist thomas jeppe s exhibition in tehran, iran the music contained on this release was originally pressed on extremely limited cdr s given out for free at the exhibition. as it stands it would have been a crime to keep this music in the private sector, thus now we see an official release in long playing format here on l.i.e.s. dream-like, full of drama, suspense and full of cinematic overtones, once again the duo of samo and max deliver beyond the full scope of psychedelic soundtrack madness.

the force known as 33.10.3402 has built a cult following in certain circles through the years with his adventerous production approach and execution. with numerous releases on labels such as esp institute, kunstkopf, and most recently second circle we now see his appearence for the first time on l.i.e.s. 33.10.3402 perfectly balances his sound and presentation with this three track effort where we hear tones and rhythms that can go from baleric to metal beat in the blink of an eye. with looming clouds clearing for the light of day and then back again, these tracks sonically play with the emotions and serve equally as dancefloor cuts or for home listening bugout sessions.

new york s gunnar haslam appears on l.i.e.s. with his third lp for the label titled lebesgue measures. picking up where he left off on his last long player mirrors and copulation we hear an evolution in his sound throughout the nine songs. still there are the understated yet grooving acid lines next to carefully programmed drums and attention to surrounding detail which creates beautiful and balanced atmospheres. there is a brightness coupled with an underlying sullenness tapping into some sort of mystical and seemingly obscured narrative which moves through the entire record. deep and immersive stuff to say the least.

nyc s bookworms makes his return to l.i.e.s. with four tracks of hypnotic headnodding techno. big tip! ever evolving in his sound, bookworms is fearless in his production whether behind the beat, in front of the beat, or subtly changing tempos through his tracks, there is a bizarre swing to it all keeping it moving. jump into the haze zone of the worm and hear for yourself, perfect for those backroom moments...got it?

well respected french dj and producer dj deep joins the l.i.e.s. roster with a new three track ep paying homage to the days of old when house and techno were a fresh and exciting music revolution. this ep perfectly balances the sounds and energy of the past and renewed vibrance and resurgance of what s happening now in paris. repress

one per person pls following her debut on the music for shut-ins compilation, antenes concocts three tracks of otherworldly techno on l.i.e.s straight from her nyc workshop. tip! *antenes operates a laboratory of self-made analog sequencers and synth modules built and manipulated in the name of rhythmic, sonic and spatial exploration. antenes signal path transforms synthesizers into sequences that burst with percussive energy, bouncing sound through sound like so many fuzzy am radio stations clipping during a late night drive. the result is a sound fundamentally unique and viscerally propulsive that shuttles dancers into a vortex of electro pulses. *

after his first ep for l.i.e.s. last year, tzusing is back with his impeccably produced style of industrial and ebm influenced machine grinding cuts.
the tracks on this ep represent the climate of clubbing yesteryear when it was normal for djs to play such things as ministry, front 242, or nitzer ebb next to a disco track next to a breakbeat track and so forth and to say these tracks could be heard somewhere like medusas would not be off base. driving, engaging and downright gnarly we can only hope these sounds foreshadow things opening back up on the floor as time pushs forward.

gunnar haslam returns to lies records for his second album, mirrors and copulation. following a slew of 12 inch releases this year, gunnar delves deep into his darkest palettes for a return to his patient, haunted soundscapes that shrouded his debut lp, mimesiak. the viny lp comes with digital download card included.

while industrial and ebm seem to be words buzzing around the media today, not too many artists associated with these words seem to be truly delivering. tzusing, who resides in shanghai has been a student of the game through the years, and has strived to execute his take on these sounds and does so with shining results. this four track ep is a testament to him transforming the metal beat into a sound of his own and running wild without limits. dont miss this!

following suit where his 2xlp left off gunnar haslam presents a new ep for l.i.e.s. once again we see haslam find a nice balance between combining samples and hardware in his productions creating moving and atmospheric tracks, which range from slow stripped down soundtrack style cuts to more developed far out techno. mastered and cut by matt colton at alchemy.

after his epic split with black deer, torn hawk comes back with a proper four track 12 inch, opening with an almost balearic/tropical, someone put something in my drink and i am melting house cut. trapdoor returns to wyatts skewed after school special add cali-speed freak bastard child drum machine/guitar lush not lushness. we get more end-titles on the b-side, as both songs could be the soundtracks for a night hanging in a parking lot drinking boxed wine and snorting ajax while auxilary police circle, threatening to harsh your mellow ... good times to say the least.

after emerging from years of seclusion below the chicago underground last year, marquis cooper aka svengalisghost, returns with all new material recorded this winter somewhere between the woods of north carolina and the streets of nyc. an advocate in creating what he calls the anti-beat, cooper takes what he s learned from the traditional machine experimentation of the early pioneers, reconstructs and retransmits the sounds which lie somewhere in the realm of unhinged synth punk or industrial forward-thinking beat electronics. these tracks are truly the essence of house, and a vicious circle it is.

returning after some time off, two dogs in a house took to a secluded studio in stockholm sweden during spring 2012 to record while on the road. here we have the result of uninhibited access to machines with no time constraints and no distractions from the outside world. this freedom allowed the duo to expand upon their ideas of deconstructing conventional song structure and harnessing the power of what immediately surrounded them in the moment. two full side tracks that will absolutely crush and/or isolate anyone who crosses through the sonic pathway of them. perfect sounds for the apocalyptic world we live in.

new l.i.e.s!just when we had our doubts about the west coast, los angeles via nyc producer delroy edwards steps up with his debut release for l.i.e.s. musically edwards takes his influences from that barneys ghetto sound with oversaturated 909 shuffling highs, dx bells, 101 filters and ends up making fresh, and yes, melodic ghetto style tracks that somehow get stuck in your head even without vocals. a unique take on a modern classic with the dancefloor in mind.

an immense sonic wave rises from the stormy and murky sea and brings a long forgotten rhythm back to life. it is only apparent for a very short time before it again slowly dissapears and levels with the surface. while still visible two unknown sonic vessels are spotted, each containing recognizable patterns from the original wave. you instantly shiver as the mighty and always well equalized shed sets his course for the land of berlin-dub-deepness and you realize that the second vessle is bound for southern lattitudes and will travel many nautical miles until it reaches the electrified island of sound synthesis. limited coloured vinyl.

losoul returns to action with his first long player in almost ten years, and delivers a stunning collection of compositions for the hypercolour released island time. otherwise known as peter kremeier, the german producer has mesmerized us for many years with his organic and emotive house music, largely released on the influential playhouse label, but of late has seen him release singles for karat and tardis records, as well as his very own another picture label. fans of losoul wont be disappointed, as a diverse yet utterly familiar sound aesthetic pours out over the albums seven tracks in his own inimitable style. the jazzy broken beats of gold tooth shine with their micro-sample chops, whilst mean time is a dense and dubby slow stomp, teasing the drums with space echo and injecting sparse bass work where it matters. inventive, spongy house grooves are delivered on boppin lower and square down smoother whilst the album closer, lava in you is a master class in ambient sonics and shimmering keys over a lo-fi swinging groove. its been over 20 years since losouls signature single open door, and the german producer continues to pour out honest and rewarding music.

jonny nash (guissian curve / melody is truth) and firecracker s lindsay todd get barefoot and turn out a stunner of an lp. over the course of twelve compositions we find the pair utilising their recordings in a whole host of ways, avoiding the well-trodden cliches of the exotic and instead attempting to achieve a personal interpretation of the flora, fauna and climate of the island. spending time amidst the insects, rice fields and scorching sun, the pair gathered a library of found sounds which were then taken back to a studio space to be stretched, mangled and manipulated alongside a variety of electronic and acoustic instruments. the outdoor studio itself became a living instrument, with the duo setting up multiple microphones for durations of up to 12 hours around the space, layering and processing the results in tracks such as fauna mapping and a series of small frogs

there is a long-standing love affair between dj harvey and pikes, ibiza. as well as coming back for his third consecutive ‘mercury rising’ residency, the legendary ‘djs’ dj has been appointed ‘cultural attaché’ for pikes, meaning his magic touch and feel-good presence will create even more special moments at pikes this summer, including the launch of new label, pikes records.
in 2015 dj harvey made his hugely anticipated return to ibiza and made pikes his home for his mercury rising debut, a concept inspired by the beauty of the real ibiza, the incredible history of pikes and a genuine love for music. the love, the dancing, the music and the balearic spirit perfectly and poetically encapsulated by dj harvey has seen mercury rising widely recognised as the most special night to embrace the island in over a decade.
the next step in the harvey and pikes story sees him launch pikes records – the first record label founded by pikes owners and ibiza rocks co-founders andy mckay and dawn hindle. on the label, harvey explains: i see so many avenues to work together to release music, everything from live recordings from ibiza rocks and pikes, mix tapes, original productions, showcasing new artists, theres all sorts of avenues to open up. with the finer details still under wraps, its safe to say fans can look forward to the first release being harveys very own mercury rising compilation. but what can we expect from the third instalment of mercury rising? putting it quite simply, just a serious good time really says harvey.
