lf rmx is a new series, exclusively featuring edits and remixes originally made by len faki for use in his own dj sets. now releasing them to a wider audience, the second edition presents two complementary contrasting versions of deep in by stephen brown. sticking to the strengths of the source material, faki s sleek polish makes the centerpiece acid bassline and playful cut-up vocal stand out from the mix even more. already quite a force to begin with, the momentum only keeps growing as oldschool drum breaks and additional percussion roll in. the original s linear progression is traded for murky, modulating analog squelches on the deepspace mix, turning the tune into a dubby late-night groover, which still holds some surpises in store. as with all releases of the non-profit platform that is lf rmx, the proceeds of this record will be forwarded to the berlin organization straßenkinder e.v. to be used in actions against child poverty.

mr. statik with previous contributions from joe claussell, move d, mr. ties, reagenz, discrete circuit and their very own away soundsystem, the berlin label away achieved a great deal of attention since its first release back in 2015. after having played at their infamous party series before, the greek all-rounder mr. statik now also debuts as a producer on away. as emphasized with releases on such labels as bpitch control, amam, or rotary cocktail, the resident of athens club six d.o.g.s draws inspiration from pop culture like science-fiction movies as well as comic books, also reflected in his rogue cherub ep. info rogue cherub ep its an open secret that mr. statik has a strong penchant for working with vocalists, and the title track is no different. starting off with an ingenious medley assembled through samples, rhythmic elements, and a funk-infused bass-line, rogue cherub ep highlights the greeks unordinary approach on house music. despite the partly broken, partly playful vibe its dave ajus distinctive voice holding everything together in a serene fashion. no less than the acknowledged master matthew herbert himself scales the hybrid down, attaching just the right disco-house touches to create yet another dance floor gem. morning star on the flipside tops off aways fifth catalogue number by a well-crafted techno-meets-dub workout unfolding mr. statiks versatile core strengths as a producer.

trippy atmospheric tune, song of trees, perfectly remixed by sid le rock aka pan/tone (kompakt, my favorite robot, ladomat 2000), london house music veteran luke vb and anatoly ylotana himself. ylotana music by anatoly ylotana (ylotana project) and sergey sergeev (mix club, solyanka, troyka multispace). based in moscow, russia and initially set-up to support all of the sex of insects band releases as well as those of its collaborators.

heard on “melancholia” are interpretations of honzo’s subconscious visions of life. the intense compositions are made up of drones, noises and distorted beats moving in and out of the frame. on opener “orientalism” said elements blend with hi-hat brushes, brassy synth pads, sci-fi noises and distant human voices evoking islam’s “adhan” (call to prayer). the theme contemplates over alienation caused by western accounts of “orientalism”, soaked in “hüzün” (the turkish term for melancholia). on a2 a rework of “moral masochism” is provided by the mysterious shadows outfit, starting with a distorted guitar over a slow and gritty rhythmic backbone which gradually turns into a chaotic high-intensity acid jam on the ep’s most dance floor suitable cut. on the flipside, “lovesickness” presents a broken kick rhythm periodically flipped by toms and accompanied by a disorienting hi-hat rhythm, ghostly strings and sporadic human moans – all resulting in a tribal mood, recalling a ceremony, perhaps a quest for a saviour from the blue temper? b2 presents the “moral masochism” original. again a distorted guitar plays over a slow rhythm, but compared to the remix, the original’s intensity is introverted, contemplating over melancholia’s effect of deriving gratification from self-inflicted moral humiliation. ambient closer “emptiness” explores a cold state with such an encapsulating airiness that it feels like a close account of another person’s mood down to the impression of their breath. arpeggiated synth noises appear from a distance representing increasing pressure from the outside world without ever suppressing the state of mind. as a result, “emptiness” sums up the state of melancholia experienced as a mood rather than the effect of a cause.

final chapter was started in 2013 by stockholm s sean dixon, along with support from perseus traxx. a label which is happy to let the music do the talking, final chapter is now on it s fifth release, and shows no sign of being prepared to letting the book close. the journey of detroit and chicago influenced house and techno continues on this release as label head sean dixon presents an ep split between himself and boston s john barera, who s previous releases outside of his own label, supply records, have issues fourth on soul clap and dolly, as well as steffis panorama bar mix cd on ostgut ton. remix duties come courtesy of berlin based producer, palms trax, who s first outing was in 2013 on lobster theramin.

martyn is one of the new stars of dubstep, having almost single-handedly started a 2-step revival he has released some of the most sought-after music of 2008 on his own 3024 label. twitch (jamie vexd remix) one half of influential dubstep innovators vexd, jamie has recently been working alone ? this is the first of his solo productions to be released.

after some very well received releases for the likes of renaissance and kickboxer records, stephan hinz, who has also turned out some hot tracks alongside martin eyerer, presents >bacala<. its a cheekily warped excursion into hinz‘s deep and melancholic dancefloor world, spurred on by a great theme melody, as if you found yourself in the middle of a medieval rave after a long and victorious battle! tight, familiar percussion works the groove, building towards a dramatic break which introduces more layers of synthesised wonder! check this in the main room for maximum effect. audiomatique key player adultnappers remix comes on strong, with a tougher drive and a slightly more freaked out vibe. trademark hissing percussion works over a finely tuned minimal groove, eventually allowing that haunting melody to show its colours. designed for the more freaky floors, yet still focused on melody and progression, its another great example of adultnappers remixing skills

claude vonstroke returns with his first original record in over a year. this time he partners with long time friend and upcoming producer, christian martin. this is a melodic hybrid of techno and house with influences as far away as drum n bass. the flip side features a remix by super hot producer gabriel ananda and newcomer alice rose. they playfully twist the main theme throughout, sprinkling in stabs to the constantly building groove. many people have said the original record sounds like a follow-up to >whos afraid of detroit?< but we will let you decide what to think for yourself.
