kid dramas sound is one thats taken giant strides in the last couple of years, first showcased in his metalheadz debut which came in the form of last years trife ep. building upon that is the addition of the enforcer ep set for release this september and consisting of 4 chunky slabs of hard-hitting drum and bass interlaced with beautiful pads and soundscapes, a combination very few successfully execute.

kid drama’s debut metalheadz release is one that is set to shake up this 4-year-old alias as he heads in a direction that’s slightly more focussed on the dancefloor, whilst managing to subtly retain some of the elements that have seen him become so loved in the deeper and more experimental side of drum and bass. the ‘trife ep’ proves how much of a talent kid drama is, from the savage bassline in ‘brutal d’ to the late 90s techstep vibes of ‘articulation’ all the way to ‘payback’, which is a track that could have easily come out under his and boddika’s instra:mental moniker. this is an extremely well-rounded project and one we’re delighted to be releasing on metalheadz.

saine & smith consists of jaja saine and leo smith. two talented djs/producers from stockholm. both are diaspora kids - jaja saine s background is in west africa and leo s in barbados. so their debut release is a kind of heritage reflection, with twisted elements of decadent scandinavian dance music, which echoes generally in their sound. a. lord vanlig - inspired from afro-caribbean traditional folk music from the 60s. a melodramatic blend of cheer and sorrow. with capturing and repetitive drums combined with a compact kick and sweet overlay of melodious keys and child laughter. b. sir viktig – a deep house banger with haunting ghost like pads, catchy afrobeat samples and vocal snippets.

cosmic bridge records blazes new pathways in its growing catalogue by welcoming margari’s kid to the family, the alias of josé maría moya sánchez — a spanish producer based in cadiz. inspired by british dance culture, sanchez first began writing his own tracks in 2012 and says he uses music primarily as therapy with a preference towards “broken rhythms, depth, and message.” the init 1 ep is a riveting slice of 170bpm seekers music, a developed and adult sound that brings to mind burial and kid drama and marks margari’s kid first physical release.

radio slave, spencer parker and mr. ties return under their b.a.d.s moniker with remixes of last years iconic hous-o-matik hom-o-patik release. b.a.d.s. is an acronym of berlin amateur dramatics society, the project was established by edwards, parker and de nittis for the original release in tribute to berlins homopatik party, the monthly event series helmed by mr. ties himself. in the house of ties remix a syncopated breakdown erupts into a frenzy of rumbling kicks, infectious vox and montefioris charismatic saxophone. in contrast, parkers reinterpretation is more mesmerising in nature with echoing stabs, reverberating vocals and eerie organ chords.

matt edwards (radio slave) returns to his rekids label under the guise of b.a.d.s (berlin amateur dramatics society) - a new project cooked up with spencer parker and francesco de nittis aka mr ties, in order to release this track he made especially for an appearance at de nittis homopatik party at berlin s about blank last year. since debuting the track it has gone on to become not only an anthem for the part itself (the a capella has become a regular a favourite mr ties opener for homopatik sets), but a goto crowdpleaser for the handful djs such as nina kraviz who have drawn for its infections energy over the past year. imbued with the with all the infamous mischief of homopatik and the historical clubbing lineage the party is rooted within within, hous-o-matik hom-o-patik does everything you would expect it to: it gets the party started. b.a.d.s will return later in the year with spencer parker and mr ties own versions of the track

charles duff and daniel fisher have known each other since well before their respective forays into dance music. they serendipitously crossed paths at some point in the early 2010s with mutual friends in the nyc club kid scene. shortly thereafter they realised they both were keen to ditch the vapid hipster bullshit that had fueled their early careers thus far in order to pursue something pure: techno. mind you, this was at a time when it was not terribly cool to be into underground dance music. if anything, they both were greeted with massive skepticism from their peers but that didn t ultimately deter them. both went from relative obscurity to regular slots at berghain. and for two american kids musing in a pathetic bedroom studio, this was nothing short of a dream come true. a prophecy had been fulfilled. the two tried their hands at numerous attempts at collaboration over a 5 year period but nothing seemed to stick. most of it sucked horrendously according to them. but not on this occasion. the stars finally came into alignment and they were able to execute a concise group of tracks that finally made sense together. which brings us to threads. threads, an homage to the uber-dystopian bbc docudrama from the 80s, sums up their dynamic approach to tracks. it s an alienating, sinister take on techno that somehow manages to not fully lose faith in dire times. much like life today.

in its original form, holy ghost!s debut album cut >hold my breath< is, pure and simple, great dancefloor electronic pop, in the hands of shadowy duo tiger & woods, the song has been totally reshaped and refracted through 80s r&b radio. they have slowed the pace and inserted synth-funk hot flashes that recall prince – and, no kidding, the time, and jimmy jam & terry lewis – to create a mood that fits comfortably (and pleasurably) within their future boogie m.o. cosmic kids ron poznansky and dan terndrup have taken the track in a more tensely dramatic direction. it might be the vaguely darkened synthline upon which much of that track sits that lends itself to its more intense feel here, and gives it such a pleasant nocturnal feel. finally, theres falty dls re-envisioning, which goes down awfully smooth for a track so full of the big, thick, bumping bass beats. it’s an aural pleasure to find yourself dreamily lost in the brooklyn, new york producer/djs halls of reverberating sound.

from the >whistle while you work< opening of >zimbabwe<, the summer grooves of >tapioca< to the dramatic crescendo of >oceans<, new navys debut >uluwatu< ep demonstrates the australian bands powerful songwriting ability and consistent style. new navy balance sparkly guitars with front man ben mcinernys smooth vocals, delivering strong bass-lines and breezy indie grooves to great effect. they have received impressive early support from radio and media with comparisons to foals, the whitest boy alive and cold war kids when talking about this promising young 4 piece.

when we heard pompeya for the first time and were told they were from moscow, we were like: - what!? are you kidding? this is probably the first russian band singing in english with such a classy brit touch and male vocal being very strong and sophisticated at the same time. they jestingly describe their style as >melodramatic popular song< and >cheenese< is indeed a very dramatic piece with simple yet powerful composition and lyrics that really make big sense. the original is very well supported by a bunch of remixes each of which is unique on its own. an-2 & samos come with a warm, relaxed and funky instrumental version which is followed by a blockbuster mix from moscow disquo maestro leonid lipelis (an entirely perfect dance version of the original that could ever exist) and finally, for those few sirs and mesdames who are not yet aesthetically satisfied and who still find themselves seated while others jump and shout, here come d-pulse with their paranoid mix that gathers the thunderclouds to the full darkness and - at the end - lets the revival sunbeams break through.

nonplus+ label owners instra:mental have been working away on solo projects in 2011 with al bleek working under his boddika alias and kid drama as jon convex. here we have boddikas first output on nonplus+ after his debut on naked lunch in 2010 and prior to his forthcoming ep on swamp 81. his work has been supported by djs across the board such as benji b, oneman, scuba, shy fx, martyn, ramadanman, joy orbison, leofah, skream and zed bias amongst many others.

with his latest album >saturn drama< on harthouse techno primary rock miro pajic, who has records out there on labels like proper nyc, kiddaz.fm, tic tac toe or tora tora tora and collaborated with artists like chroma or the horrorist, crossed the border of minimal techno with his tight and powerful arrangements full of black romantic rooms and intelligent sound design. now we have the first single >do it< out on vinyl, together with the album tracks >alien angels< and >sexy beast<!

on their introductory minus ep, click box offers a refreshing return to a bygone era of classic instrumentals, full of experimentation and passion generated by that ongoing love affair between man and machine. berlin shades starts out in a jittery minimal fashion but soon dives much deeper as the tough electro bassline expands and contracts dragging the dancer to and fro. the cascading hook and in-your-face sci-fi synth motif add a sense of tongue-in-cheek drama to a dynamic arrangement that incorporates steep inclines, sharp drops and snaking pathways. as the short staccato bass riff gains momentum and the hook comes round for the second time you just know somethings lying in wait and the boys certainly dont disappoint. lost road is anything but a blind alley, kicking off with some low-slung interplay between a two-note bassline and a whiplash snare that dishes out a serious spanking. hi-hats fizz across the audio spectrum, cleverly pitching up and down before a drunken bass sequence ushers in the main section with its sliding, twisted synth distortions primed for surprise and immediate disorientation. once all the elements are in play, the fun really starts with so many objects of interest competing for attention. the arrangement is pulled and pushed to great effect extracting maximum effect from this tough little unit. more electro flavour to the fore as the loose, broken beat intro and robot sounds of some toys make for some slick moves on the dancefloor. the retro synth riffs and dark spiralling pads conjure up images of some early 80s lab full of computer kids in white coats twiddling knobs on huge mainframe monoliths. the bouncing bass and analogue belches make this a must for all retro-tastic electro-boogie fans. the theme continues over into voxer as rising filtered bass tones playout over another trademark click box drum pattern, this time doused in heavy reverb and delay. an array of analogue bleeps, screams and laser beams keep the motor ticking over.

flying circus music, returns with its second release, this time rocking the deep, extended, dramatic house vibes of radio slaves interpretations of humates love stimulation. the new-berliner matt edwards took his popularity from underground to overground, and right back round again. the world-travelling dj founded his solid, big room production style while his infamous bootleg and remix work was a mainstay of the uk electronic scene. now, with the strength of his rekids label and his unmistakable production approach, he re-works this early classic of german techno/trance élove stimulation into two remarkable slow burning epics. the >full length vox remix< builds from very opening bars, carefully combining classic house sensibilities with a totally free and organic, long flowing arrangement. at over 15 minutes, its a heavy weight tool for those late, hedonistic hours! carrying on the blissed out theme, weare also treated to a panorama garage remix, that bears a more raw, jacking house vibe, with its straight up beats and deeply-swung chord stabs. radio slave is a master at keeping things ear-tinglingly stripped, yet still filling the room with power, energy and tension. these two remixes certainly pay their dues to classic days gone by, but they also stand out as superb examples of the modern state of house. judging by this release its still as strong as it ever was!!

excellent spaced out & funky disco 5 track ep

after an online ep on kitty yo, combination records now releases three new songs by dillon in a timeless classical pop format which i find ideally suited for her: as 7 inch single. ausgabe 11, contact us and on repeat present the spectrum of her possibilities: it has this sensitive cheekiness, it has this aggressive vulnerability, it has the adrenalin beats for kids, and it has some dramatic chords - a great package. and thats only the beginning. we are currently witnessing a rising star!!

gavin herlihy has long been one of dance musics most respected journalists and djs, and with two acclaimed releases on mood music last year and more recently a brace of top-drawer remixes for unkle and alexkid, hes fast becoming one of its hottest producers. freshly relocated to berlin, his debut 12inch for kindisch, >opium haze<, confirms his status as a skilled and innovative player on the house and techno scene. >opium haze< is as heady and intoxicating as its title implies, an effortlessly psychedelic piece of music thats nonetheless firmly rooted on the dancefloor. it begins with a clicky, funked-up conga tattoo cloaked in disorienting effects which partly obscure the jazzy melody rising up from the mixs depths. out of that sticky, dubby fug emerges an insistent, upward-tripping piano line and synthesized string stabs - together forming the kind of rave-ready hook that will cause immediate damage in the club. herlihy is superbly heavy on the edit, using an eastern woodwind sample, disembodied voices and various percussive elements to deliver build after build, drop after explosive drop. >opium haze< is a hugely satisfying piece of music, and a club anthem-in-waiting. >professional exit< is a more stripped-down but no less accomplished affair, driven by a warm, rippling bassline and phased electronics. before the percussion intesifies and interlocks, offsetting a sparse one-note synth line which hangs in the air, thickening it with understated drama. at once seductive and unsettling, experimental and club-oriented, >professional exit< is indeed a professional end to a highly professional 12inch

sunburst offers layers of eerie, whispered vocals wrapped around a dark and menacing chord pattern. as the track develops though, the chords open out to bring light to the dancefloor and dramatically change the mood into something wonderfully uplifting. marc also offers a reduced version of >sunburst< as a dub to complete the trip. the alexkid remix brings some proper old school house vibes to the mix. alex and his 909 go to work on marcs stabs to devastating effect. all hands are destined to reach for the lasers when the bass-line drops, and just in time for the summer. parisian alexkid works his magic for the remix. alexkid has in the past remixed everyone from astor piazzolla to george michael, provided serious dancefloor fuel with tracks like >dont hide it< and a number of critically acclaimed albums for the fantastic french label f communications
